I've being interested in it for a long time, because it sounds like a game I'd love. Unfortunately it also sounds like a game that I'd only be able to fully enjoy if I'd gotten in on it at the beginning.

So far I find it to be very enjoyable and easy to play. The tutorials help big time and most players are willing to help out a bit.

I played Galente for about 4-5 weeks.
Got up to a cruiser (Thorax).
Was part of a nice corporation that included low-levels (like me) in high level missions and split profits (giving up to about 4.5 million per mission).
Then Computer died and the reserve one can only display it at slide-show level.

Was nice though.

Oh man, Eve Online. I used to play. I had an account that I started and stopped playing many times. Ultimately I think I wanted something out of it that wasn't there. Having said that, the walking in stations stuff looked pretty cool when I saw it a while back. Did that make it in yet?

I've always meant to try Eve Online.

I like what the company is doing with the Player Council and the whole idea behind how the universe works. I always enjoy reading in PC Gamer of the latest wars or backstabbings that have been going on. It always sounds like a lot of fun, but at the same time a really difficult game to get into.

Its not that hard to get into.
The only thing that can temporaily cripple you is not buying/learning stat-upgrade and learning talents first (as that increases your learning speed overall).
Also, don't bother buying new ships when you begin. I made that mistake (between the first few story missions) and ended up having doubles as the game gives you the first few ships (frigates and and a miner) for free as reward for story missions done.

I'm still trying to find out whether it will ACTUALLY run on the Macbook or not. Any help?;

2.4 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo
2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Video: GMA X3100
OS 10.5.8

? Anything else? I'm not good at this stuff.

Another question, what sort of time commitment does it require? Raiding every night or can you just put in a few hours here and there?

Prozessor and Ram easily. (dunno if it runs on macs)

The GMA might criple your experience.

Perhaps, but Eve has two graphics engines: an 'old' one and a 'new' one. The old one would probably be ok.

Not, though if you really wanna get somewhere, Eve is actually pretty investive i think.
If you find a corporation with an actual schedule (i.e. missions at x, lower players welcome but don't get targetted) its usually 2hours to actually get through a high-level mission.

I have two accounts, one for small ship stuff and making money, the other for being a capital pilot (You really do wind up giving a character up to be a capital pilot, and you give it up forever if you make it to supercapitals.)

Metcarfe, the game will not run on your Mac, at least not very well and certainly not with a lot of anything going on.

My machine is a Macbook Pro with a 2.5Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB of RAM and a 512MB GeForce 9600M. It runs pretty well, even for large fleet fights, so long as I'm zoomed waaaaay out. My usual machine is a more powerful Windows rig with a bigger video card.

Edit: Also, last year CCP discontinued the "Classic" client (which was the one with the "old" graphics engine). The new client is generally more-intensive, but it does have some low-grunt settings. I just don't think it will run very well on the Intel IGP.

Ah, I was not aware of this. Shame, I really liked the idea of the dual graphics engines (although having to render all new assets in both must have added to the development time).
