Master Gunner has a morbid fascination with blimps. He is also insecure as he is constantly armed and well trained in this field. Poor, poor Master Gunner.

King Kool simultaneously wishes to shout out his opinions and stifle himself from embarrassment. This internal conflict is a source of much stress in his life.

Metcarfre's choice to iconify himself with a screen shot from a violent video game tells us much about the struggles of the gifted youth. Unable to connect with age peers due to accelerated intellectual development, but not wholly satisfied with adult companionship either, Metcarfre retreats into a disembodied world of clean lines and geometric shapes, where his abilities allow him to be effective and to express normal adolescent longings for excitement without the frustrations of social interaction with age peers.

The video game offers a particular enticement for the gifted youth: accomplishment without risk. Hard on himself to the point of often-paralyzing perfectionism, the constructed world of the game allows the gifted young man a safe chance to enjoy the achievement with which he identifies, only without the risk of exposing the skill deficits that often rear up and embarrass the gifted at the worst moments--no one is brilliant at everything, and being really good at some things keeps you from developing skills that others take for granted. Not so in the computer's world.

And the image with which Metcarfre presents us is indeed ultimately about identification. The internet discussion forum on which he posts describes the image as an "avatar:" the incarnation of a god. In this world, one is embodied on the computer, not in one's actual physical form. Faced with the existential choice of choosing what image will be his online body, Metcarfre chooses a scene shown from the player's perspective. "Here I am," he seems to say, "Powerful, analytical, and alone in this dangerous environment. Engage with me on my terms, see the world as I do. Shoot with me in the first person."

It's not a balloon! It's an airship!

thadivilhimsewf was born with a debilitating skin condition that renders it permanently a shade of blue. Ostracized by his peers, he has developed a fantasy world where he is normal and everybody else is the weirdo.

or perhaps master gunner yearns for a simpler time, when airships were a valid form of both transport and military defense.

Or perhaps he's a fan of Jules Verne, I dunno

madrak_the_red is a man obsessed with military fantasy. Could it be that he wishes to join the military, or is it something more sinister, perhaps hinting at a plan for world domination via military power?

Both options are quite valid. Also I'm a fan of big things that move.

Oh so exploitable.

Too bad the internets wouldn't work in a steampunk fantasy world, or I would have a terrible obsession with airships of gargantuan proportions.

Master Gunner is a fan of hard sci-fi and alternate history fiction!

AlexanderDitto simply spent too much time around Chernobyl and now glows slightly in pictures. Unfortunately he has since passed on this syndrome to other people who are unfortunate enough to touch him in any form.

The Y represents Aeric as two other opposing forces come down. Possibly the opposition is from the same family as Aeric as the letters are the same colour. The yellow background gives way to the sense of urgency around Aeric, with the white gradient being looked at as an unknown direction to go with these alarming forces around him. Since white is a negative colour and has no real definition it can be considered aimless

Zombaholic feels a brotherly bond with machine kind, particularly those of the car variety. He also stands strong for his beliefs, against a foe of any kind with his hands firmly planted on his hips. However Zombaholic is also open to change, but only if it is one kind change, and only if it is continually changing back and forth. He is deeply complicated, and there is more to him than meets the eye.

SpyKnight has a deep-seated hatred of rooks stemming back to that one time he caught his mom cheating on one. Or was it his dad? On second thought, it was both.

Dutch Guy's avatar is clearly a symbol for what the universal hatred for the Dutch has done to his mind.
He who would sacrifice a little liberty for a little security deserves neither.

I can't believe I just found this thread.

ExplodingSims has repressed memories of being abducted, but elements of it still seep into his subconscious. In this case, manifesting itself as his avatar picture.

Gordon Fearman is protests risky behavior. The look on his face, combined with one arm behind his head seems to say "Guys, this really isn't a good idea." He is the cautious one, making sure everyone knows the risk is real.

SirDelta's avatar is highly squished and hard to discern in a 100x100 space. Obviously, he is negatively prejudiced towards people with poor eyesight. This might be because he was scared by a clown with glasses when he was young.

SirDelta has read to many books which has slowly, but surely, caused him to loose his grip on reality. He can no longer distinguish his own fantasies from the real world and has been seen charging windmills who he, in his delusions, thought were ferocious giants which had to be slain.

Ottoman is obviously OCD and requires perfect symmetry to not freak the fuck out. He is also in a constant inner struggle between his good and dark side. The struggle is tearing him apart and he will likely get split personalities if he doesn't find a way to handle his issues.

Zhyard Avatar is from the perspective of one looking down at the country side. The blue grass represents possibility and hope for the future and the yellow roads represent Zhyard's love for the timeless classic the Wizard of Oz
