Re: Videogame Fighting Tournament
Okay, that was really great. Who did all the posters? Jer? Good work all around, this shows the power of good writing and acting on a simple but effective sketch. Also, loved Paul's outfit. Kind of nouveau-riche douchey. Thumbs up!

Re: Videogame Fighting Tournament
I designed the initial poster, and Jer, Paul, Kathleen and I made them.
Jer:
Guile v Mishima
Voldo v Riptor
Paul:
Tekken Force
Kathleen:
Hwoarang v Reptile
Myself:
UFL 24
Akita v A Ninja
Goro v Nightmare
Mortal Kombat
and I may have missed a couple.

Re: Videogame Fighting Tournament
I don't even know that much about fighting games but I thought it was fantastic. Really great video!
Re: Videogame Fighting Tournament
As a long time fighting game fan I was immediately in love with this one!
It was well paced and written, never trying too hard to stay on topic and you really got a good balance between realism and sketch flavor.
Oh yeah and it was pretty damn funny, too!

Re: Videogame Fighting Tournament
Really funny, I'm pleased I recognised most of the characters. I thought the acting was great this week, Graham in particular. I can't put my finger on it, but he gave the impression of being older somehow.

What the rest of the thread said. Simple idea, great execution, well done.

Really loved this video. Especially the bit about the Soul edge tournament. But August 7th is a Saturday.

Haven't posted in a while, but MAN this week's vid is good! Kudos to whoever came up with the idea. Double hilarious for me because I just picked up playing Soul Calibur 4 again, though if ya'll woulda thrown in some BlazBlue characters I woulda lost my s***. Keep up the good work.

I really liked this video, I mean REALLY liked it. This video is solidly funny through out. Great work.

Loved the reference to Clayfighters. It's always been one of my favorite fighters.

Loved it all and especially the line "the industry can't sustain this many underground fighting tournaments", films and video games went to that well for a story premise so many times in the 90's.

And now you may have more posters to auction off for Desert Bus this year.

Re: Videogame Fighting Tournament
I didn't recognize any of the references, so all the jokes went over my head. That's okay, though; I have a feeling that people familiar with fighting games probably enjoyed it immensely. Someday LRR will do a skit about two crazy roommates named Glottis and The Grue, and then it will be my turn to laugh knowingly.

Re: Videogame Fighting Tournament
I hate to be the Voice of What The Hell, but something is hella screwed up with the Escapist's video player. My CPU spikes to 100% on both cores and the video judders really badly.
I'm on a Macbook Pro from late 2008 (2.53Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, only the browser open) running Snow Leopard 10.6.4. Yes, I uninstalled/reinstalled Flash Player.
The problem happens in Firefox and Camino, but Safari works fine.
Edit: Now that I've figured out how to watch the video, good show! I'm feeling somehow proud of myself that I recognize all of the fighting game references. I used to be a killer Voldo player.

Re: Videogame Fighting Tournament
I should have said, I appreciate when you guys do a video game based vid that has humour everyone can appreciate. I have only a fuzzy recollection of most of those characters, but the sketch works so well that it doesn't matter. Good job!

Re: Videogame Fighting Tournament
Man it's like you guys broke into my home, checked what I've been playing recently, drank my milk, then made a video about it! Except the milk part.

Re: Videogame Fighting Tournament
Definitely one of the best paced videos you guys have ever done. Not too long, not too short. The writing and acting from you two was really good too.

Re: Videogame Fighting Tournament
I was horrible at all those fighting games, except one time I was playing soulCalibre as Ivy. Using my normal style of play, ie buttonmashing so violent Child Protective Services was called, I somehow managed to take her sword, turn it into a whip, wrap said whip around the other guys axe, and flip him onto his head. I still have no clue how I did it.

Re: Videogame Fighting Tournament
Oh wow. Just wow.
This has to be my favorite LRR video in the Escapist era. You guys really reached back to some 3-4th season roots for this one and knocked it out of the park!
Or one timer-ed it into the net? I'm sorry I'm only half Canadian so I'm not entirely sure what the preferred sports analogy would be there.
Great job on the script Graham, I'm whoring this vid out to all mah friends

Re: Videogame Fighting Tournament
After seeing it several times over with the people I've shown it to, that sketch grew on me even more. It really is a great piece of work, especially on Graham's part.

Re: Videogame Fighting Tournament
Great video, I got more of the references than I thought I would, due to not being into fighting games much.
I love that it's being held at William Johnson Memorial Arena, though shouldn't it be Sir. William Johnson?
