Scott Pilgrim Vs The World

Postby Alex Steacy » 11 Aug 2010, 02:17

So I was excited about this game, but kept some skepticism in reserve...

And it actually turns out to be a really fun game! Paul Robertson's animation is amazing, and its the perfect melding of his style and Brian Lee O'Malley's characters and world in an old school beat-em-up with really solid mechanics and most of the annoying tropes removed.

Be sure to visit the hidden mystery shop under the bridge after the shopping district. Expensive but HUGE upgrades for sale there.

because I only buy things for PS3 that I can't get on the 360.

And despite the delay, I can get this on 360.

Fair enough. In all honesty if I had both I'd probably do the same thing too.

Knowing Matt's desire for gamerscore, he'll manage to wait for the 360 version...

I went ahead and already got the PS3 version though, patience was not with me.

Apparently it's almost a complete rivercity ransom knock off which is cool

also all kinds of other games as well. For example the overhead view is almost identical in layout to an old NES TMNT game.

I don't have any of these newfangled gaming consoles you young'uns are using these days. No chance I'm going to see a PC release, is there? Alas! Poor me. I suppose I will have to be content with waiting for the soundtrack, and then listening to it while I cry myself to sleep.

I wish it was going to have a WiiWare release. I guess I'll have to wait until I have a PS3.

This. I spent multiple hours trying to figure out if it was possible to pirate XBLA titles because of this. I want a 360, but I kind of need 1) a job, 2) to stop moving every 3 months.

Maybe some day.

Oh, I know. But I just moved in with my folks because I can't keep burning money on vital things like rent without having a job, let alone spending money on a luxury item like a 360.

I want the soundtrack to be released almost as much as the game. Anamanaguchi are one of my favourite bands, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

Well, there's always my solution: Don't own an xbox. Works great for me.

anyways, anyone else who has the game, have you been compiling games referenced, as I have? so far:

Kirby
Mario
Pac-Man
Zelda
River City Ransom
Tetris
Sonic
Final Fantasy
Castelvania
Guitar Hero/Rock Band
Street Fighter 3 (I think)
TNMT
Pokemon

hey gang. Back again. With some spolierarious content on finishing the game Solo-Scott. It's especially funny if you know Scott Pilgrim well, either or both in movie and comic forms: Basically it goes like this, but I'm paraphrasing. We start on a black screen "Scott was depressed when Ramona departed... but not for long" we fade up on an image of Scott laughing like a viking conqueror on a throne, Knives, Kim and Envy fawning over him "He started dating Knives, Envy and Kim, all at the same time, and now he's the happiest guy in the world... the screen starts to fade to black "Or is he?"

I laughed for so goddamn long when this happened. The illustration is great, too.

Also, pro tip: It will take a while, but for the love of god, pay scott's late fees at the video shop. You will not be sorry.

Picked this up this evening, and had a crack at it quickly on my own.

I think I pitched the difficulty too high, because I couldn't make it past the first level. Also, the game played slower than I thought it would. It seemed to take forever for Scott to get up after he'd been knocked down, for example.

Having said that I love the visual style, animations and the music. I imagine that this will be a game that needs to be played with full 4-player co-op for me to fully enjoy it.

I downloaded it last night and started playing. I found the characters moved quite slowly too and it was hard to react to what was going on on screen. At first I attributed it to the controler but after buying a few Speed+ items things got noticably better. At it's heart it's still an el-cheapo quarter munching arcade beat em up but grinding some helps a ton.

I've been listening to a couple of the tracks from the game all morning, I just might have to buy a song or two off of iTunes, especially Another Winter, such a fucking amazing beat.

I'm on the last level. So, after I beat each level I have enough for one thing at Wallace's shop. And then I get that one thing, and then I'm so OP it's not funny.

I played the game without powerups up to level 4 or 5, and then bought the strength upgrade. When I realized there was ridiculously cheap upgrades at the video store, I saved up to pay off the late fees, and then used the money-copying glitch to do the same for the other characters. Even on the highest difficulty, 100 strength makes the game pretty easy.

Despite that, I quite enjoyed what little there was of this game.

So, how do you make Scott go Super Seiyan. Sayan. Or however you spell that.

He kind of looks like that if you jump while running and press Triangle, once you unlock the move. I think the other characters can do it too. And it's spelled Saiyan, if I recall correctly.
