Batman: Mask of the Phantasm

After days of my sister teasing me for buying a cartoon I decided to watch it. Seriously! She is ignorant of comics, when I explained the DCAU is well liked she replied "What about Fantastic 4, that was rubbish." She also said Batman couldn't be part of the DC Universe as he's part of Dark Horse. Ignorant women.

But it's very good, a strong noir detective adventure, focused much more on the murder mystery element than the action (not that it isn't awesome), and it creates a very interesting and emotional story. This feels very much like the animated equivalent of Batman Begins, treating the characters like real people and adressing Batman's background such as his obsession with justice and his parents, and even gives the DCAU's take on Batman's origins in a very different way to Begins.

Also the animated incarnation of Alfred is simply awesome:

"How dare they question your snity Master Wayne. Your the model for perfect mental health. Incidentally I've ironed your tights and organised your exploding bat boomerangs."

So here's a bump..
I'm watching District 9 at the moment and am a little over an hour in. So far this movie is really bad. Everyone seems to be evil to the point of cartoon villainy. None of the characters (aside from maybe the alien) have any redeeming qualities. There are more than a few plot holes/inconsistencies as well.

I donno if I'll finish it.

I didn't like it. Too many things had me asking "why?"

Very wrong.

You are supposed to empathize with the aliens in the beginning.

I can't be wrong if I didn't like something.

Why would I empathize with them? I have no idea what their motives were or why the came to Earth in the first place.
There are too many reasons for why I thought it was a poorly done movie and I'm not going to get into an argument over it.

I think I would have enjoyed District 9 more if it hadn't tried to use that pseudo-documentary style.

Towards the end where it dropped that to some extent it got a lot more interesting.

Recently seen Machete (had to write up a review for a dutch online mag I write for). I thought it was awesome, going in with no expectations. It was hilarious and it was creative.
