It's Done? Duke's gone gold?
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/103201-Duke-Nukem-Forever-is-Complete-Maybe
Well Duke Nukem Forever may finally have been completed. If you excuse me I'm catching the next portal to Jupiter because I'm scared about what will happen next.

Maybe they've coded Yatzhee's vision of it...

If it's anything like Yatzhee's vision I will eat my DS, and I like my DS uneaten.

God it'd be so funny if they changed elements to match the review or at least reference it at some point. Even just a quip like "What do you expect me to do? Wiggle my ears?".

Re: It's Done? Duke's gone gold?
Geez, George - don't you get it? DNF (aka 'Do Not Finish') was the ideal; it was vaporware but constantly changing to 'the cutting edge'; it was ALWAYS 'one step away' as something to strive towards - an unattainable goal to spur on other devs.
"Check out my 32-bit wall textures; there's barely any repetition and the seams are invisible!"
"Rumour has it Duke Nukem Forever is gonna use 64-bit textures."
"... Wanna get a sandwich from the diner for me? I'm gonna work through lunch."
See? It's always supposed to be stuck in development due to constantly updating the engine/etc. as new breakthroughs are made - it's supposed to keep adopting those new things into its concept so it's ALWAYS on the cutting edge.
You're not supposed to MAKE it, George.
I'll probably play it, and if they're faithful to the character (which is what set DN3D apart from the other 'faceless, voiceless, nameless' FPS protagonists of the time), I'll probably enjoy it, regardless of the the technical advancement, or lack thereof.

Strangely, I have trouble believing this. Also the Duke Nukem Forever list hasn't picked it up yet.

Yeah, I can't...no, I won't believe it. Not until I see the box on the shelf or the link on Steam. Until then, this isn't real.
If it is real, does this mark the end times? Some sort of gaming Gehenna? Either way, I expect to see some pigs fly.

I was hoping for real pigs. Lots of low flying aircraft means free bacon. But I suppose those will do.

Re: It's Done? Duke's gone gold?
After checking the PAX buzz and the reports...fuck.
This...this isn't...it's not supposed to happen. It's the ultimate hypothetical; it is never supposed to materialize.
It's just...inconceivable; it's as dumbfounding as Obama's win...but while that was awesome and hopeful and good, this? This leaves me with mixed feelings and a rather unsettled stomach.
<paranoid-conclusion>
This must be the reason that all my financial woes are piling up together at this time; it's not the 'end times' for the world just yet...just for ME. The 'never to be made' is made, and I run out of rope.
...fuck you, Gearbox; your diligence and determination have ruined my life (somehow)! *spiteful sulk*

I'd like to shake you by the hand, sir. Honestly, even if you had told us we wouldn't have believed you. I'm actually crying right now.
And guys, Elite 4 was proposed back in 1998. ENN, go!

Gameplay footage:

I swear I saw 'him' smack a foe with a rifle butt at one point, and definitely a nitro-powered monster truck. Hmmm, I think Gearbox had its tongue firmly in its cheek; there may be hope yet.

I wonder how many people are gonna buy this game just out of an uncomfortable sense of obligation

Those are the kind of people that would pay a prostitute out of "an uncomfortable sense of obligation."
The majority of people that I think are going to buy this game are going to do so because they enjoyed the previous ones. Obligation has nothing to do with it.
