They keep saying "OH MAN THERE'S SO MUCH COLOUR IN THE LIGHTING! AND THE STRIP ITSELF" But I honestly don't see it. The greys of the buildings seem to just pop out at me more then any lighting. Am I the only one to think this? I'm still looking forward to the game though.

I think so. It looks very colourful to me, particularly compared to Fallout 3's blighted grey and brown and sickly yellow.

It does look like the gamma is turned up way to high in those videos or something., though. A lot of the buildings look a bit...I don't know, washed out I guess. Of course, that was a problem with Fallout 3 as well, so we'll see. Soon.

2. Bethesda might finally get around t otelling us what they are making...

Hopefully with New Vegas coming out, we'll see if they're making ESV or Fallout 4. Or maybe something new?

I've been playing Sim City 4 and browsing a lot of forums, I actually didn't know this was releasing till last week.

I'll probably pick it up tomorrow, as opposed to dropping by the launch tonight.

Giant Bomb review has dropped, 4 out of 5 stars, turns out the game is buggy as hell. Pretty much the way Fallout 3 was until some significant patches came out.
The thing is, Fallout 3 isn't buggy in the "well isn't this amusing" way that Red Dead Redemption, it's buggy in an annoying way.
For example when I was playing Fallout 3, there is a wedding that can take place in Rivet City. Now I witnessed the wedding, I watched as everyone RAN into the room and took their places. I watched as the wedding started and there was no groom and the game acted as if he was there. The groom was no where to be seen but the game ran the sequence as if his character model was in the room. It was funny at first but then it annoyed me, because obviously the wedding is something the makers of the game wanted you to see, and I did, but not properly. I hope that Obsidian patch the hell out of New Vegas and make it a game we can all enjoy properly.

Just got the chance to play it for a couple of hours! :D

So far I'm only in the first town. There's not much happening. A couple of things I've noticed are that the dialogue, both NPC lines and player choices, seem a lot more varied and interesting. Secondly, I have no freaking clue on how to play that Caravan card game. The instructions they give make no sense at all. An interactive tutorial would have been nice on that. Surprisingly, I won my first game though (but I'm not sure why).

The main thing I'm disappointed in is the graphical updates. I kind of knew this before I bought NV from the trailers and screenshots etc., but it really seems they could have spruced up the overall quality a bit more. When I look at games like the Total War series, the graphics see a vast improvement between games based on the same engine. Even a 'standalone expansion' like Napoleon: Total War saw a nice step-up graphically over Empire: Total War. Then, looking at pre-alpha footage of Shogun 2: Total War, my jaw drops. Why couldn't they have done something similar with New Vegas?

One more thing is that the musical selection seems surprisingly shallow. In playing for 2 hours I probably heard the same songs about 3 times apiece. Granted, I think there are more stations to choose from than in FO3, but I was hoping for something a bit better. Maybe some music mods will be released soon.

For those who will be playing on PCs, the system requirements are a little bit more demanding that FO3. I'm noticing a little bit of lag with all settings turned up to ultra whereas Fallout 3 played silky smooth. Probably lowering the AA somewhat will help out.

Don't get me wrong with everything I've said. I'm really liking the game so far and I think it'll be even more immersive than FO3. Plus, the mechanics of the hardcore mode seem really cool, and I think it will keep the game difficult even with a high-level character.
Is it safe?

7 hours in...

Almost finished with the first act...

But I've barely scratched the surface of the game. Sooooooooooo many side quests to do and with the main quest line as incredibly fucking long as it is (due to side quests being tied to it), level scaling being gone (meaning there are now enemies wandering specific areas of the wasteland THAT WILL DESTROY YOU WITHOUT HESITATION) and the fact that getting 'into' vegas is a reward itself, means that the game is more challenging and to some degree, much more satisfying and more like an RPG than Fallout 3 felt.

But I'm retiring for the night, burnt out and I need to do some sidequests to either get a passport or build up a hefty sum of 2k caps so I can pass a credit check to get into the strip.

LOVING it so far. Took a half day off work yesterday and plugged like, 6 hours into it.

Hit one major bug so far, which nearly proved game-breaking, but it sorted itself out. Playing on hardcore mode. Went to the correctional facility. Got hit by dynamite. Got in a battle with six dudes. Ended up with every single piece of my body crippled. and 24 hp. Escaped the building, and quickly fast-travelled to goodspring to see the doctor. When I arrived at goodspring, the agro carried over with me to the residents, and doc mitchell came at me with a knife. Being the only doctor I'd met in the game to that point, and with no doctor's bags, this was an issue.

thankfully after a quick travel to primm and back the game got itself figured out.

Hardcore mode is cool. Glad I have the gamestop exclusive vault 13 cantten though. Slows the dehydration tick down considerably.

I've just barely scraped the surface - does the canteen need refilling? How do you do that?

Barely got an hour in yesterday. Hopefully get a couple in tonight. Good stuff so far.

Sweet. Was a tad worried about attempting hardcore mode as I'm anything but a power player, so that should help.

Also, I keep getting stuck making guys who are sneaky and like guns. Gotta try something different next playthrough.

Hardcore mode isn't that much tougher so far, just more to deal with. And trips to the doctor.

THERE WERE DEATHCLAWS EVERYWHERE! They warned me not to go through the mountains, but I tempted fate and did so anyway. Fear has never been so real.

Just a note, anyone with the PC version who is having issues with the game might want to try this dll to fix the problem. On that note, the game is fun so far, but it feels a lot like Fallout 3 but somewhere different, and truth be told that's exactly what I wanted from it.

Over here in the UK, I found a shop that stocks the game early due to having an import game license, so they can stock PAL versions of the game days early. So yesterday I started Fallout: New Vegas.
Now recently I had gotten back into Fallout 3 again, starting Fallout New Vegas is jarring. Not in a bad way mind you, but in Fallout 3 I was ridiculously overpowered and had plenty of guns and ammo, I also had a perk that filled my AP bar back to the top if I killed someone during VATS. Jump into New Vegas from the start and I having nothing of that.
But damn, it is awesome, the hooks that game throws out is great.
I helped defend Goodsprings, then travelled to Primm and was told by NCR that it was over run, I cleaned it out, now I am slowly walking across the desert, looking to see what I come to next.
I did not play Hardcore mode, I think that would be playthrough 2 or 3 when I try that mode.
I have sunk about 3 hours into the game at the very most, but it is pretty fun.

This, so much this. I don't think I even ran into that many Deathclaws during the whole of Fallout 3! Or... you know... not at once.

Loving it so far as well. It has a very different...flavour compared to Fallout 3. It's much closer to Fallout 1/2, in a good way.

The only bug I've run into, which is supposedly patched but doesn't seem to have been fixed, is that the SteamCloud messes up autosave/quicksave. Not a big deal, since I just make manual saves.

You know, the aggro following you is bad, but at least every time you go into a town the people there don't run away for no apparent reason...

The canteen thing is unexpectedly handy, granted it's not as useful for a regular playthrough, I find the mild auto-regen it provides is hands...

But I ALSO bought a HP regen implant after using the Primm casino exploit to net me a couple thousand caps (and some excess NCR/Legion cash) and it seems that this game, be you in hardcore or NOT, has decided that you pretty much don't wanna fuck around. I've discovered it's... Really risky to get into things way over your head. I mean hell, I wasted 5 super stimpaks and 15 regular ones trying to defeat ONE blind deathclaw.

ONE
BLIND
DEATHCLAW.

Now, anyone else would gladly go, 'OMG, SO UNFAR!!!1!!111!' but I'm just gonna recognize it as Obsidian restoring the 'deadliness' to the deathclaw. The overall increase in difficulty has been, for the most part, welcomed. It's encouragement to focus on the quests, to be careful with your exploration AND forces you to make GOOD decisions about what to spend your skill increases and perks on. And most importantly, to remind the player that they are not 'gods' and that not everything can be defeated right from the get go.

Enjoyment of the level scaling being absent aside, I'm 'seriously' hoping for an increase of the level cap to level 40 or 50 in a future expac.
