Have you guys played Drakengard? It was made by the same guys. If you finished Drakengard 100% then you were very prepared for Nier's weirdness.

Spoiler: The (true) finale ends with giant babies coming to literally eat the world and then you and your dragon get shot down by jet planes.

When will game companies learn to not make their "future" so close to the one they're living in?

"My pipe! MY pipe. My PIPE."

Nice delivery there.

Edit: Wonder if there were any particularly timid gamers who were scared off by the opening monologue. "I'm sorry! I'll stop playing now!"
"I like the smell of fresh wood chips and sawdust."

that opening monologue shouty thing seemed very out of place in the context of the rest of the game, which seemed quite dark and mature, whereas the shouting was comically immature. I'm glad you so thoroughly ripped it another one :P Although it actually looked like quite a good game.

I assume that opening monologue was from a character you meet later in the game. I don't know their name but it's basically a male spirit possessing a female body and thus being a functional transvestite.

Also if Nier is anything at all similar to Drakengard then it is not going to be mature in any sense of the word.

I actually thought that to be the most convincing piece of the cutscene...

That was GOOD (meaning your commentary, not the cutscene).
Also, Looney Tunes Reference for the win.
Also also, I agree that the shouting was actually the best part of that cutscene, especially considering how out of place the deep husky voice of the protagonist was in comparison to his emo/angst look and the fact that he's starring in a Square Enix game.

Well, I'm convinced. I'm gonna start reading Hamlet straight away.

My favourite character is George; he doesn't say much, but he seems really nice. I felt rather sorry for him when he got dropped on the floor, though; I hope Nier's treatment of George improves as the game progresses.

Aren't these two synonymous?

Touché. Well, half-touché. The second implies the first, though the first only leans towards implying the second :p

G&P did good! I would play that game, but the first time it sounded like a toilet being flushed right before the first monster appears. Which was confusing and disgusting, in that order.

I believe that in the Japanese version the main character was an emo/angst teenager, which may explain it.

Because bits of his skeleton and his teeth still remain from when he used to be a human. Makes perfect sense.

Aaaaanyway, I just realised that I never actually said how much I enjoyed this Unskippable. Although you can pretty much take it as read that any Unskip that I don't post any feedback for, or don't actually make many germane comments about, was good; that's the default state of Unskippable, and I don't usually find much to say about an update unless it's above or below par.

I've read that the producer said that the world Nier takes place in is the same world you go to after the shit ending of Drakengard

Nier is also Dutch for kidney.
So, is playing this game as much fun as passing a kidney-stone?
