Ah, but then Harry wouldn't be able to single-handedly save every single match he plays in, and then where would we be?
Well, Jo Rowling would probably still be rolling around on top of a huge pile of money, but that's neither here nor there.

Nah; most fixed-wing aircraft are far too large and ungainly to be used in this fashion. Same applies for rotary-wing aircraft; it'd be possible to play qudditch in helicopters, but it'd be pretty slow and deliberate...
This, on the other hand...
(Maybe get Yves to be the snitch?)
Re: Quidditch seeks NCAA recognition
Wow, just wow.
As many others have said, whats the point of playing on a flat playing field with no snitch?
Might as well play soccer...except with your hands.
I think the snitch is the most important part of a game of Quidditch.
They'd have to use an small RC car or something of the like and get people to chase it around hoping it doesn't get stomped on.

Holy fuck. This isn't a sport. It's a bunch of kids that love a book putting brooms in between their legs and wearing scarves. Is this not on par with LARPing? The fuck guys. I love Buffy but I don't consider my past time of stabbing people in the chest a sport.

Or like I posted earlier, an overclocked, souped-up powerchair or a willing dog would work as well. These are NERDS we are talking about.
We actually used a small bouncy ball that would blend into the grass as a snitch for a while. We marked off the pitch, but we said that the search area was anywhere on the whole field, which was usually about 5 times bigger than the actual quidditch pitch.

Quidditch is not a sport, or even a remotely fairly-balanced game or past time; the seeker is disproportionately important to the game to the point of making the rest of each team redundant.
J.K. Rowling is no Alexander Cartwright or James Naismith; she didn't found a sport, but fabricated a fictional group activity engineered so that her protagonist could engage in, one that would earn him popularity, and do so in a position that encourages and enhances the messianic attributes of said lead character.

How I wish that game were real.
It's so much better designed, too.
Also: the other players become vital in quidditch when you're dealing with spread in a tournament.

I'm in. Now all we need to find is a space station, light guns, space suits that freeze when hit with light guns, and some "terrain" (which may not be the best use of the word... but meh).

Okay, what a bout the snitch, is someone flying a remote control plane in between the players at the same time?
The most unique, nicest, and confusing individual you will get to know. Don't be stupid around me, that's my job.

Okay, I can see bad things happening when a rush of hurried people interact with that flying miniature plane and its propeller...
...and you know the old saying: "It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye; then it's a sport!"
So you go ahead with that idea, keep me posted, and when then requirements have been fulfilled, we can talk again...

Using an RC combatwing it would not be impossible. And on those things the prop is somewhere half embedded in the wing, so not sticking out as much.
THE DUTCH!! THE DUTCH AGAIN!!!!!

Re: Quidditch seeks NCAA recognition
What if on the RC plane, you attached a flag or something that can be removed easily without yanking the plane down as well.

I'm not saying stupid people should die, I'm just saying lets remove all the safety labels and let the problem sort itself out.

I think the sport would be improved by using Off road segways rather than brooms.

Actually... Ok, not cliffs, but a 3D playing field could be interesting. No idea how it'd work, though. Perhaps clear floors and light-guns?

Now you're talking about Tri-Dimensional Indentured Servant Chess.

I'm pretty sure he wouldn't like the "Indentured Servant" part.

Re: Quidditch seeks NCAA recognition
So yeah, remember how I said my one club at college had a Quidditch team?
They placed 9th out of 46 teams, and one of our players had to go get stitches after the first game.
