sad day for comedy

Leslie Nielsen has died at a hospital in Florida. He was 84.

Doug Nielsen, his nephew, told CJOB talk radio station in Canada that the actor passed away at a hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The Canadian actor had been hospitalized for nearly two weeks as a result of pneumonia.

"Just in this last 48 hours, the infection has gotten too much and today at 5.30, with his friends and his wife by his side, he just fell asleep and passed away," Doug told the radio station.

Unfortunate and sad, but he lived a full life! A Canadian icon.

... This sucks... at least he didn't fall off a balcony, get run over, and trampled by a marching band...
But really, what a great comedian, everything he touched was gold (well, almost everything...).

So sad, we lost a good man who really loved his fart-noise maker. I shall have to watch my Airplane! dvd in tribute.

"This man needs a hospital!"
"A hospital? What is it?"
"It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now."

I will always think of him as Sergeant Frank Drebin, Detective Lieutenant Police Squad. Also, for his cameo in
this.

Well this hit me hard. Then some of the jokes in this thread reminded me why he was one of my favourites. You never really think that the people you admire are CAPABLE of dying. Worse for me since my idol is Ozzy Osbourne. Fucker's been through so much that'd have killed most people the FIRST TIME round!

When i first saw Airplane! I was too young to appreciate it's awesomeness. I then saw it in February and I had to keep watching it over and over. rilliant film.

A great sadness that this great actor and comedian has died.

Aww, this sucks. I more or less grew up with the naked Gun movies. heck I use to watch them every time I was sick (sort of became a tradition for me).

such a shame, I loved his work in the 80s and 90s, and he was one of the few highlights in the scary movie films post Wayans

Comedy?! Sad day for drama, too! For one, there'll never be a Forbidden Planet sequel. And then there's the original Poseidon Adventure. All those '<sponsor name> playhouse' series right from the birth of network television...

...and Colonel Francis Marion.

Rest well, Swamp Fox. Thank you for all you'd given us.

ADDENDUM: Apparently he gave Irvin Kershner the same bug. :(

I wonder how long THIS run will last...

I will forever miss him too. Absolutely killer in Men With Brooms. Seriously. Go watch it, and then cry that Leslie Nielsen is no more. Then laugh at him during in all his other brilliant flims. What a class act that guy was. :(

Very sad news. I can't think of a single one of his comedies that I didn't enjoy, if not love. I managed to sit through Scary Movie...3? 4? (whichever) just because of him.

The world is a little less funny, and a lot less silly now.

I didn't see this thread before I posted my own.

This is probably the worst news I have gotten all week, and this week has been pretty bad.
