I now officially hate the Escapist

The reason can be summed up in three words: Unskippable Video Ads.

These are as annoying as hell, because you have to watch them EVERY time you want to watch a video over at the Escapist, they are boring, annoying, and repetitive.

Since the LRR crew is no longer doing ENN, can they maybe leave the Escapist now, and go back to doing their own thing without them?

Problem the first: Escapist helps LoadingReadyRun with an consistent revenue stream.

Problem the second: Escapist make money with ads. It you want to get away from the ads upgrade to club where you pay escapist to not see them.

Problem the third: LRR has three current video series on Escapist, ENN may becoming back.

Problem the fourth: LRR are under contract with Escapist (length unknown) and they have only just started the second season there.

You pretty much have 2 options. Buy a Publisher's Club membership or just get used to it because you're going to be seeing more and more of it. People aren't watching TV anymore and the Escapist doesn't pay for itself so ads are moving to the internet in droves. For that mater LoadingReadyRun doesn't pay for itself anymore so what you're asking Graham and Paul to do is to go back to normal jobs to support the videos you enjoy. Doesn't seem like reasonable request to me.

Unfortunately, the LRR crew needs to get paid in order to continue making videos, especially as many as they do, for any further length of time. They're just not big enough (yet, at least), to support themselves independently. Those ads, as sucky as they are, pay for the Escapist, which pays for LRR. So the only way around it is really to buy a pub club membership (no ads, high res video), to ensure that the crew can still get paid without those ads.

Well they don't "need" to get paid to keep making videos, after all they did quite a few years with no income from the videos themselves, and they still make money from merchandise, but having a consistent revenue stream from their primary output is certainly helpful for them.

In a 2007 LRRcast a question was asked if they could see LRR still going on 10 years in the future. Graham remarked that if they were still doing it in some form they were being paid for it.
Then Jer announced LRRCon in 2017 in Pasadena.

Making one video a week (much less 3+) takes a lot of time and effort, and as the crew get on with their lives, they'll end up having to make choices about where to allocate their time, and LRR could end up just being lower down on the list without it acting as a reliable means of income.

Pub Club. It's totally worth it just to get rid of the ads. I tried watching without being logged in this week and almost went insane. It's not even that much money! And it helps support LRR!

Besides, HD is the ONLY way to watch Daily Drop.

I joined the Pub Club when they were donating half of the proceeds to Desert Bus. I never thought I'd pay for web content, but this has been totally worth it.

Mostly cause I never had to watch another Slim Jim ad. God those were annoying.

I even popped over and just watched Unskippable, Zero Punctuation, Loading Ready Run, Daily Drop and even The Big Picture. Not one single 'playback' subjected me to an ad before the desired video played.

I was surprised to notice that ALL the 'after-ads' were for the Pub Club, and none were the (up-to-now) more common 'breakdancing ZP imp'...I'm not sure if that has anything to do with this, but there it is.

Oh, and I don't hate met...because, you know, I'd have to pay to do so. NOTICE: The previous statement was a joke.

Or maybe you are running Ad-block or something? I find unskippable ads to be annoying as hell. Sure add revenue is important, but don't force me to watch 40 seconds of crap for something I'm never going to buy .
