The intention of the squad leader was that he should be directing the squad, and so usually if you're in a good one, he's hanging near the back of the squad and watching the situation unfold so he can adjust accordingly. If he's out in front running round like an idiot, yeah he'll die and you'll have to start again. But really the only times when I play bf2 that I dont have a squad leader to spawn on is when we've simply been wiped out by a squad doing the exact same thing as us.

I think I'll be getting BF3, but I'm not sure yet. I'll definitely get it if I have people to play with online, but I'm certainly still a Modern Warfare fan.

Yeah, I've come to realize that CoD is basically becoming EA's wet dream of an FPS in their sports game mold. A new ($60) game each year, with not much different except for a roster update (new guns, in this case).

I'm kind of annoyed that this was marketed as some kind of new trailer, when in fact it is just all the other trailers clipped together with static inbetween.

Dear Ea,

I dont care about the single player I want MP details and I want them now. People dont play battlefield for the story.

Well, I want a single player experience as well, I don't think FPSes these days can get away with *just* multiplayer, unless they're being sold at a rather low price. It just seems poor value otherwise.

Beg your pardon, but I've seen similar comments to yours along the lines of "People don't buy Battlefield for the single player" (apparently with the suggestion that single player is made to appeal primarily to console gamers), which I don't think is helpful to dissuade the common negative perception of PC gamers.

But I think screw spawn on squad leaders only. Because what happens if your squad leader gets killed? he has to respawn from the nearest base again, and anybody left in enemy territory either has to carry on without him, wait, or more likely, get killed, wasting everybody's time and your team's tickets.

Teamwork in BC2 with spawn-on-squad works well enough. There have been times when one squad member, in Rush mode, has managed to make it all the way to near the MCOM, and he just tells the rest of us who are respawning to spawn at him. If it were only spawn-on-squad leader, he would be screwed with no back up, because we're all the way back *over there*. I also don't want to waste time waiting for squaddies to respawn *over there* and make their way to my position.

I'm a PC gamer, but I will accept convenient streamlining from console versions to enable a happy medium between fast-paced action and big scale tactical warfare.

As another poster noted, if you only have one squad leader to spawn on, and the squad is actually with the squad leader, what usually happens is that the whole squad lives to complete their objective or dies in the process. Rarely did it happen that only one player made it out of a fight alive without the rest of his squad. Anyway, that's the point of having medics. I can't tell you how many times in BF2 that me and my squad were in frantic skirmishes and the squad leader dies. As soon as he dies, a frantic call comes across the VOIP saying, "Take my kit, revive me! Take my kit, revive me!", because the squad leader is a medic, usually.

In BC2, no one has a specific squad member to keep alive, so everyone just looks out for themselves and what gets them the most points. This hinders teamwork, simply because in the majority of games players spawn on the teammate closest to the front line and then runs off by themselves. Of course a properly working, integrated VOIP would really help teamwork as well.

Aside from everything else, having a designated squad leader gives a squad direction and sets out basic objectives. This is probably more helpful on larger conquest maps like in BF2, but a lot more can be accomplished if the whole squad is going toward the same control point or M-com rather than just going in every direction imaginable.
Is it safe?

So... is this forum full of CoD players or what? Seems like only a few people here have expressed any interest :(

If half the rumours about MW3 are true then EA are not going to have such a easy a time as they though in stealing the CoD players away.

Plus I find it kind of ironic that EA is calling CoD out for making the same game year on year when they do it with sports game.

Maybe people don't want to waste the energy discussing all the theoreticals of a game that doesn't even have a release date yet?

Aren't sports games rather dependent upon yearly updates due to changed team rosters, new players, retiring players, adjusting statistics and whatever else?

I am hopeful that there will be CoD gamers looking for more depth of gameplay, or want to investigate the possibility of teamwork, strategy and tactics in multiplayer. Apparently, there are CoD players who never even looked at Battlefield (or only gave it a cursory glance) and were pleasantly surprised when they did sit down and have a good look at say, Bad Company 2.

Try Battlefield. It won't hurt.

We've seen more footage and know more about the mechanics of Battlefield 3 than, for example, Skyrim, but people are chatting that up.

Most sports games update rosters every season as a free download.

Myself, I generally dislike talking about games at all, and games that haven't been released most of all.

Guys like that guy in the video are the reason I don't play CoD anymore (next to the fact that MW2 just pissed me off to no end).

Well I was already certain I was going to buy Battlefield 3 and not MW3, but Activision just made my decision a tad easier by incorporating Call of Duty Elite. Basically stuff you get for free with other games? Why not pay monthly to get that with MW3? Want to set up a clan? Pay. Want to use theater mode to upload? Pay.
I'm sorry to say but that is just really activision slapping their loyal CoD fans right in the mouth.

DICE announced Battlelog the other day, some sort of Elite equivalent that will be free.

Heh.

Also, some stunning attention to detail from Infinity Ward:

The BF3 public beta has started, for more information visit the beta website.

Unfortunately the map being showcased is Operation Metro, a rush map with absolutely no vehicles. While the infantry combat is pretty good, certainly better than BF2, it doesn't quite feel like battlefield.

Oh shit, this is everything I've wanted from a Battlefield game. It looks great, the animations and movements feel realistic, and the weapons are satisfyingly powerful. But my friend hates it desperately.
