Desert Bus 5 Crafters, Start Your Engines!

Postby PerringtonOwl » 10 May 2011, 14:23

Evening all! Now if there is already a thread for DesertBus/crafty related gear then I apologise for cluttering your lives with another.

The countdown to Desert Bus 5 is underway, and I am more than a great deal curious to hear what people are planning to make to donate to this most awesome of causes. I'm just starting to create a Lego mosaic of the DB5 logo (96x96 studs for all you Lego geeks out there), and I'll attempt to get a few pictures out beforehand if it all goes well.

So, what are you guys a-crafting?

Indeed I have and I've had clearance to craft, Captain. Wouldn't have posted otherwise!

I have a plan. If I buy one thing I think it'll snowball into a real thing. So I have to buy one thing.

Awesome! Your craft sounds fun! I want a room in my mansion dedicated to lego. NAY, a summer house MADE of lego. You know, when I'm rich.

As for my crafting, it is super serial top secrets!

I'm potentially crafting a needle felt version of the Purple Tentacle from DotT... it really depends on if I'm happy enough with the final product.

You've probably already seen this then, Siobhan.

I wish I could craft something, but I have next to no meaningful talents, and minimal resources while staying in res.

Sticks and string, Gunner. That's all it takes. :P

I have plans, but nothing submitted for approval yet.

The scope of the craft idea I have submitted is slowly descending on me.

But I don't think I've disappointed the LRR crew yet... and I hope not to start now.

This, basically. Sadly.

All things considered, art in general is hard.

Well I'll be doing a bunch of cross stitched bookmarks on various geek related things, a list of which I managed think of instead of listening to my lecturer today. How many of them translate to thread well will soon be discovered.

I want to do a big project as well, but my initial idea was too close to that of others so thats on hold till next year, what the new one will become has yet to be discovered.

Though suggestions for things that you'd like to see in cross stitch/cross stitched on would be interesting to kick start the brain.

I plan to do a portrait of Gibb in oil paint on a hand-made hassian canvas.
I havn't decided on the dimentions yet or the image as I'm some-what distracted by my Uni course at the momement =)

I'm sure Portal 2 related ideas would be cool; GLaDOS, Wheatley, Portal Gun, P-Body and Atlas (no Meme ones as it's a bit cringe worthy)

Gosh, I didn't expect to be the second person in this thread to say cross stitch bookmarks. ;)

I'll be donating some of the Doctor Who bookmarks I sent in last year, plus some new ones, plus some LRR-related ones, plus something that's actually bigger than a bookmark. Plus whatever else I happen to come up with between now and October. So that'll be fun. I hope you guys like geeky bookmarks. =P

I haven't been able to come up with any really good ideas yet, it's kind of frustrating! I wasn't happy with my prototype coasters, and somehow I don't think a mini Gibb replica would be something anyone would want.

I've been thinking of repurposing some of the less useful magic cards I have, but no idea what to do with them.

But...but Gibb is awesome. I support Gibb-related crafts. <3

I wonder if I could design a good Gibb pattern. Hmm...

Okay. I need some help for the Desert Bus Drive Your Own Adventure. Does anyone know any hacks so I can speed up time so I can get screen shots for different times of the day? Thanks.

EDIT: ustream recordings from DB1 are a last resort. I found a torrent that has pdf of the original manual. I doubt it will ever get downloaded.

Cover Update:
Book 2 is much the same but replace Las Vegas with Tucson. Any criticism, notes about improving the design or text let me know. I might not ignore them.
