Transformers Prime

Postby Taisaku86 » 06 Nov 2010, 19:26

I'm relatively certain there must be SOME Transformers fans around here.
Anyone have any thoughts on the new animated series set to hit the waves soon?
I'm mixed on what I've seen so far.
The character designs look like the live action movies and the last series (Transformers Animated) collided head-on, which is both good and bad.
I hate how "busy" and overly elaborate the movie 'bots are, so making them more simplified and streamlined is a good movie. But at the same time they're a little TOO slick looking. I'm fairly old-school in how I like my Tf's to look, I like being able to tell at a glance what they turn into and roughly how the process happens. The Prime designs aren't very accomodating to that, a lot of them have what I like to call IAMS, or Invisible(or indescipherable) Alternate Mode Syndrome.

I read the prequel comic and while I didn't hate it, it didn't really make an impression on me. The characterizations are mixed. Arcee is your standard badass action girl with little personality, Starscream's sort of a crazed scientist, which works for the character. Cliffjumper is fine, but I keep thinking that he looks like he should be Ironhide. I mean admit it, when you first saw that character, you thought it was Ironhide.

Any of you have any thoughts?

Hi welcome to LRR. you might want to watch some videos about how matthew is OBSESSED with Transformers, mainly "Moving Out" http://loadingreadyrun.com/videos/view/243/Moving-Out
and most of the cH videos.

OT: I do like the look of the movie ones, and if they are incorporated well to the figures, including moving parts, theyll be awesome. the wiring and actual structure is what I'm going for because it looks more "realistic". I do like the older transformers, especially the INCREDIBLY complex optimus prime that took a good 10 minutes to switch modes.

I don't really know if I'd call the movie aesthetic more "Realistic". Sure they look more nimble and able to move in a practical way, but they also look sorta fragile to me. All those gaps in the armor and exposed inner workings and whatnot. The Prime designs are a decent middle ground, though. Plus I'm just not that into realism, personally.
And if you mean the 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime, here here. I have him and he's awesome.

Man, I should really check back on the forums more often than just hang out on the LRR IRC.

No, I thought Cliffjumper was Cliffjumper, because he looked like Cliffjumper, and not Ironhide.

I am lukewarm on the 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime/Masterpiece Convoy, even though I own a few versions of it. That thing doesn't even really transform into a truck.

If you want engineering near perfection (however complex and possibly frustrating to transform), you need look no further than the Revenge of the Fallen leader class Optimus Prime. Realistic truck, very screen-accurate robot.

THIS THREAD IS NOW ABOUT TRANSFORMERS TOYS.

I got the 2010 Voyager class Sea Spray. It's sweet. Really good transform, the joints are all awesome. This is my first Voyager class, and I'm really impressed with the ratchet-ish joints, being used to the ball and sockets on the deluxe class and pressed-in-pins on the scouts and power core combiners.

Also, looks cool in both modes. Very happy with it.

That's a torso folded up into the approximate shape of a truck cab and some robot legs sticking out the back. The truck is compromised to form a (roughly) cartoon-accurate robot mode.

This is a truck.

Woo! Just got Generations Blurr and Reveal the Shield Perceptor. I LOVE Blurr; transforms nicely, both modes look great and his various guns all stow away nicely in both modes and interact together interestingly. Perceptor... is alright. His robot mode looks great, but it doesn't hold together as well as it could, and his vehicle mode, while a nice looking half-track, isn't a microscope, and is therefor a travesty, lol

I just got United Jazz (Specialist Jazz or something in the Hasbro Reveal the Shield line), Tracks and Generations Warpath. Jazz is great, though his pure white plastic will probably eventually yellow the hell up like my RID Prowl (some sort of chemical reaction that occurs with very white plastic, even if you avoid sunlight).

I just picked up Transformers Vault: The Complete Transformers Universe by Pablo Hidalgo.

http://www.amazon.com/Transformers-Vault-Showcasing-Collectibles-Memorabilia/dp/0810998688

It's a pretty comprehensive book detailing the history of the Transformers brand, from toys, comics, cartoons and movies, up to and including the current Transformers Prime cartoon and the upcoming third movie, Dark of the Moon.

The book has neat little "interactive memorabilia", such as a sheet of Generation 1 tech spec biography cards (the same ones from the 1980s packaging) and the accompanying red plastic reader, a reproduction animation cell, a reproduction movie ticket to the premiere of Revenge of the Fallen and more.

It's a great book for a fan, and is extremely informative for the more casual fan or people who might not be aware that Transformers has been a continuous, multi-billion dollar entity for over 25 years.

Pablo Hidalgo is the managing editor for StarWars.com, an author of several similar factual books on Star Wars (as well as other franchises), a Transformers fan, and an occasional contributor on tfwiki.net.

Which Waspinator? The Beast Wars character had eight toys and the Animated character had one as well.

Like beast wars, I've done a bit of research and I think there's only one or two toys that were actually on model. And one of those two has like a manufacturing error accompanying it.

Course I'm a bit picky...

I see at least two, but they were both made after the series ended.

To be fair, the toys were designed BEFORE the show was made, so it's the show that is off-model.

Well, I am half-pleased with Dark of the Moon. I liked the first half with the plot and dialogue. Didn't like the second half with all the explosions.

I might go see it again, see if it changes my opinion with a second viewing.

I actually loved the whole damn movie. The action scenes were fun, the story was actually GOOD for a change, and they even managed to turn Wheelie into effective comic relief instead of just annoying. Would gladly watch again, preferably in 2D this time.

I too enjoyed DotM, it kept me pretty entertained throughout. Considering I didn't spend a dime on seeing it, the price was also right. There wasn't enough Prime kicking ass for my sake, but you can't have everything.

Side note, recently picked up the Ark playset and it's pretty nifty. I really enjoy the Cyberverse sub-line, as i'm a sucker for smaller sized figs.

I believe the Cyberverse Action Sets (Bumblebee with Mobile Battle Bunker, Starscream with something something carrier, Optimus Prime and Megatron with trailers) can connect to the Ark playset.
