E3 2011: Predictions, Pre/Post Discussion and More!!

Postby Kyogissun » 22 May 2011, 22:49

In about 2 weeks, the gaming world's week long holiday will kick into full gear. Some of us will be working harder than ever, some of us will be stuck at work and others will be taking days off and waking up at times that would otherwise be unheard of on our free time.

Handle the thread however you like, but I'm just gonna kick it off with my personal 'predictions' and 'dream announcements'... Worth noting these are copied from the Dtoid articles of a similar focus:

(Dream announcements)
-Ni no Kuni announced for Localization
-Tales of Xillia announced for early 2012 US release
-Rune Factory 4 in production, coming to the US first
-Persona 5 on PS3
-Persona 4 Portable on 3DS and PSP
-Tales of VS announced for stateside release
-Valve is trolling us, reveals Half-Life 3 at E3, coming this fall for multi-platform releasing
-Battlefield 3 will be announced for having monthly updates, map packs at least every 2/3 months and more than just Rush or Conquest for the game modes
-Class3 is coming out this fall
-Shadow Complex 2
-X-COM nearing completion, coming out this winter
-Pokemon RadiantRuby/SparklingSapphire announced, coming in fall to japan, spring next year for US
-Atlus will be releasing class of heroes 3D to the states Q1 2012
-XSEED Games announces localization for Students of the Round on 360 (Not happening though since they've confirmed they're not attending)
-Animal Crossing 3DS to overhaul the series and not feel like a shitty expansion pack that the past 2 games were
-Okami 2 announced, being handled by Platinum Games with Capcom as the publisher, but PG has complete creative control rights
-Silent Hill: Downpour confirmed to be another title in the 'reboot' for the Silent Hill games being reimagined as psychological mindfuckery horror akin to Shattered Dreams
-Metroid Dread being handled by Retro Studios, Platformer akin to the gameplay of Other M, set post Fusion, FINALLY CONTINUING THE FUCKING STORYLINE THEY HAVEN'T TOUCHED IN FUCKING YEAAAAAARRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSSS

Plausible/Likely to Happen/Overdue for Announcement:

Mirror's Edge 2
Dance Central 2
Borderlands 2
Shadow Complex Sequel
Rune Factory 4 (Prolly not gonna happen)
Tales of Graces F footage
Skyward Sword release date
Sonic Generations footage
Sonic 4 Episode 2 footage (Unless, and I won't be shocked if this happens, it gets canceled)
Banjo Kazooie 3/4 (Whatever Rare decides to go with...)
Silent Hill: Downpour Release Date
Tales of the Abyss 3DS release date
The Wii Successor having a regular controller and online that takes all the good parts from Sony and Microsoft's infrastructure
EA NOT turning Battlefield into a YEARLY franchise... But every 1 and a half years? I'm okay with that
Pokemon Grey/Gray announced
Halo Game SPECIFICALLY designed entirely around space combat, with the devs from Crimson Skies brought in to make it fuckawesome
Jade Empire 2?
Currently Playing: Skyrim (Dawnguard), Bunch of Shit on Steam (Blame the Summer Sale), Tales of Graces f
Waiting For: Kingdom Hearts 3D, Torchlight II

I'm hoping for Sly 4. Other than that, I don't really care.

Although Mirror's Edge 2 would be awesome.

EDIT: OH! And Layton vs. Wright getting an English release. And them to change their mind about not releasing Ace Attorney Investigations 2 over here.

nintendo will be the show stopper

sony will be all about their NGP

microsoft will big on phone stuff and MAYBE have some sneaky announcement like a symbol for their next console, but that's more likely to happen next year. other than that they'll allude to some crap about a halo 1 remake or some such that they will go into more detail at the halo fest thing they got going at pax.

edit: man i wish rare would be allowed to make actual games again, but I'm pretty sure they're stuck as MS's bitches now. so i doubt the banjo sequel. god damn nuts and bolts was good.

Gonna be on my super-long summer holiday, so I'll book the day off for sitting in front of my computer. It's gonna be my first year of dedicated E3 watching other than 'I'm bored oh hey E3'. Should be fun.

Don't really know what to hope for, as I've been too poor for video games recently. Nintendo's will be pretty exciting, though

I see no 'wots all this then?' or 'don't care' option.

I'm looking forward to hearing news about Battlefield 3. Concerned it will be buried in the avalanche of Modern Warfare 3 publicity, though.

Your poll is missing the most important option
"Not working, because I am an unemployed man-child and an overall detriment to society. But damn do I loves me some video games"

That would have been my choice, but I went with the "Not working, watching the conferences live, tracking the blogs like a stock market." option because it is also true.

I'm looking to the Ubisoft press conference. Last year I watched it while sitting on a ventrilo server with some other wastoids with nothing better to do and there much mockery was to be had.

The whole thing was a train-wreck, from the segments in which they spent 10 minutes trying to market a vitality sensor and/or a 90s laser tag set as "the future of gaming," to the extended dance sequence for the announcement of the Michael Jackson game. An announcement which, it should be noted, didn't even announce anything. They said they had a big announcement, some dancers started flipping out for like 15 minutes, then the game logo came up on the screen and the press conference was over. I can't wait to see how they try to top it this year

Also the Nintendo press conference was amazing last year. They had announcement after announcement, each one deserving of its own "Holy shit.. HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT." reaction, each more amazing than the last. I'm not sure a new console announcement would even be able to top last year, but I'd love to see them try. Worst case scenario, they announce something horribly stupid and embarrass themselves and we get a good meme for a couple weeks.
and now; back to me.

Halo 4 confirmed as being shown today during the press conference on the official Xbox website, including Dance Central 2, various other Kinect titles and the rumored Halo: CE Anniversary edition.

Less than an hour to go guys. I've got some errands to go run and then I'll be back for the press conference.

In order of excitment from lowest to highest for me:

Microsoft - Halo 4 doesn't interest me and I expect to see revamped Kinect pricing and bundling but not much else other than solid 3rd party offerings as usualy.

Nintendo - New console announcements are always fun. Probably lots of 3DS games on the lineup to try to recoup from the pretty meh launch.

Sony - NGP dominates the presentation. Name will be announced (not Vita). If Sony learned anything from the 3DS launch then competitive pricing announced and a major, very high profile release for launch that hasn't been announced yet. Move is no where to be seen.

Microsoft is predictable:
"This game now has kinect support"

"All our games now have kinect support"

"Needs moar kinect"

"Too lazy to press buttons? We've got kinect for that"

:(

I liked the original Modern Warfare because it was realistic and epic without going too far into cliche. Then Modern Warfare 2 came out and they turned it into an action movie, but it was still pretty good when they went to the more localized combat. Now they've just turned it into The Sum of All Fears.

Yup MW3 looked cheesy. I like my xbox but I am getting annoyed with all the 3rd party games with kinect rammed in.

Ice-T showing up is the highlight of the show so far

They are hyping the hell of out of Kinect at this conference. Makes me actually want one now, especially after seeing Mass Effect 3.

Wooo minecraft.... oh kinect again

And yeah auto-aim Fable kinect looked shit.

Ryse looked great until the kinect made the guy look like a douche.

Kinect can work, it's just getting to be such a gimmick now.... And I don't want to know how much they paid the companies to ram kinect into every...damn...game...

Tim Schafer simultaneous wins and fails...

Win - "Unleash the simulated family."

Fail - This is the same man who made "Full Throttle" and "Phsychonaughts"

That Schaffer game needs to record and upload videos of people playing that automatically. That would be so awesome to see. Tim Schaffer is still a boss though.

Wow way to make aviator glasses look bad in that Fun Labs bit... and that is about all I have to say about that.

Face..meet palm... that golf bit was so pre-recorded... face meet palm again with the football
