That is a strange card in that while it does its job of taking out one-toughness creatures quite well, you're probably more often going to be hitting your own creatures (or even yourself!) to get tokens. Not that that's bad, it's just... different.

Also, remember, it's an EDH card.

Player A swings at Player B with an 8/8 to finish them off, but you need them alive still to take out Player A, so you ping Player B for 1, giving them a blocker to survive another turn.
I can put my hands in my head, and I can laugh it in the face.

The one major downside to the walls in Gorgon Nest is that they only produce green mana, whereas the Sisters are green/black to play and utilise.

So that puts a slight dent in the fact that the Overgrowns alone can allow the Sisters to be played hard-cast by turn 5, and with the Trellises can have 36 green being output turn 6 (1 Overgrown on turn 2, another turn 3, two of them on turn 4, and enough mana gen for all 4 Vines turn 5, for (4*8) + 4 = 6).

Bog Initiate would be the perfect solution to that problem but unfortunately she hasn't been printed since Invasion, so she's way too old for my decks. Mycosynth Lattice is about the only suitable replacement I can find, but poses a potential huge boon to opponents...maybe Orochi Leafcaller?

So, apparently, even Wizards is getting into cross-promotions with TF2. Pre-ordering Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 on Steam gets you a couple of Magic-inspired hats. Tempting, but I want a Grave Titan for my decks, and that's the promo with the 360 version.

4x Sisters of Stone Death
4x Vine Trellis

Germinations out for Hatcheries, which I can mana ramp into absurd figures and net a lot of snakes on a regular basis ([18][18] for 5 mana to net 18 snakes per turn? Snakes seem rather appropriate for a Gorgon deck, methinks), Cultivates out in favour of Orochi Leafcallers and Death Denieds (XBB instant to get X creatures back from my graveyard, sweet deal here), so if things manage to go a little downhill I can rebuild quickly and efficiently.

I don't really think Sakura-Tribe Elder would add much to the deck, at least not next to Sakura-Tribe Scout. As it stands, the deck has 8 cheap mana-producing creatures (4 of which can seriously ramp matters), with 3 mana-converters and 3 chances to bring them back from the grave for cheap.

Sure they'll all fall down to a kicked Breath of Darigaaz (as will most things, really) but they're also strong enough to survive a Lightning Bolt and a Pyroclasm, so I'd say they've got a fair bit of utility.

What's really fun actually is the interaction between Sisters of Stone Death and Orochi Leafcaller. Because Leafcaller can convert green mana into any colour, I could use Sisters to nab an opponent's card and still use all it's mana abilities.

Enjoying that Etched Monstrosity? What a shame, I'll be taking that AND I'll be making it a 10/10, thanks!
That Hellkite Charger? Mine too, and I'll be taking another couple combat phases!
That Deathless Angel? Yup, you guessed it, and all my stuff is indestructible for a turn!
Yeah, great combination.

my favorite deck ever was an old Eye of the Storm combo deck designed to confuse and befuddle my opponent with the arcane inner workings of the stack.

Provided you can figure out what these cards have in common, this seems like a rather hilarious deck type to play, especially in multiplayer

Aura of Silence
Cloud Key
Defense Grid
Everflowing Chalice
Ghostly Prison
Grand Arbiter Augustin IV
Lodestone Golem
Lotus Bloom
Loxodon Gatekeeper
Prototype Portal
Semblance Anvil
Soul Foundry
Spelltithe Enforcer
Thorn of Amethyst
Unwinding Clock
Voltaic Key

Hint: I'm thinking of a deck name along the lines of "The Taxman Cometh" :P

I've seen a similar effect happen accidentally in a 3-player game, it had everyone in riotous laughter the whole time.

Did anyone happen to pick up an event deck? War of Attrition looks like an insane value. For the cards included. 2 Mystics for $25? That's just nuts!

Hey I was wandering if anyone knew any one turn wins, I know they're not even slightly practical but I find them amusing and enjoy finding some.
Here's an example of what I mean

1xSwamp
4xDark ritual
1xFrogtosser Banneret
1xHatred

Play: Swamp (+1black), 4xDarkritual (+12black, -4black), Frogtosser Banneret (-4black), Hatred (-5 black), sac 19 health to pump Ftb to 20/1, swing for 20.
so if you know any more and it's not too much hassle could you post them please

Many thanks.

Gemstone Cavern land and exile Elvish Spirit Guide for 2 mana turn 1
Cast Flash for Protean Hulk, which has to be sacrificed so you can get:
  • 1x Carrion Feeder
  • 1x Brass Gnat
  • 4x Ornithopter
  • 4x Disciple of the Vault
Sacrfice the Ornithopters and the Gnats with Carrion Feeder to deal (4x5) = 20 damage to your opponent.

What am I missing? I don't see any mythics in that list. I mean, it looks like a solid deck for a precon, but I don't think I'd buy it just for the rares.

Well, the oldest one in the book would of course be Mountain, Black Lotus, Channel, Fireball.

You can also pull the Channel trick using Gemstone Cavern and Elvish Piper, since of course Black Lotus is pretty damn hard to get a hold of.

Wait is this it? anyway that looks hilarious, I like the idea of legaly using so many cards in 1 turn, I mean isn't that 14 cards right off the bat. Awesome thanks people, if you've got any more then by all means keep them coming!

stoneforge mystic(2 of in the precon and a 4 of in the best type 2 deck atm) are worth more than 80% of the mythics from the whole scars set, it was worth even more before these were printed. i mean in the new set(NPH) the best (standalone)card is a uncommon

as for type 2 first turn win, Chanc\oller of the forge, reveled at start of game to get a goblin, play a swamp, into tainted strike then pay 8 life for 4 mutagenic growths = 10 poision
Ok, for the record im a Guy

I'm assuming you mean Mental Misstep. It's crazy how one little card is having such an impact on the Legacy tournament scene.

Technically Hulk Flash is a turn 0 win, not a turn 1 win. You win on your opponents first upkeep when you're on the draw.

I pulled a Mental Misstep the other day from a booster I won at a tournament. Some dude asked if he could trade it, and I wanted to be all altruistic and shit, so I offered it to him for free, not knowing it's value. Then someone else saw what was happening and told me it was worth £6 or something.

It's a good card, but I doubt I'll ever make any kind of deck with it.

TO EBAY! (unless somebody on here wants to buy it from me)

I've vowed to never play a Phyrexian card.

EDIT: Something I figured out recently about Gorgon Nest:

Turn 2: Overgrown Battlement
Turn 3: Orochi Leafcaller, 2nd Overgrown Battlement, tap the 1st for a 3rd
Turn 4: Tap a land and the Battlements (10 mana total) and funnel 3 mana through the Leafcaller for black, to cast Sadistic Sacrament (kicked) and exile 15 cards from the opponent's deck.

Or for an extended-legal version:

Turn 1: Swamp
Turn 2: Forest, Battlement
Turn 3: Swamp, 2 Battlements as before
Turn 4: Swamp, Sadistic Sacrament

Same speed, but way more land-specific than Gorgon Nest. Not particularly useful given Nest's ultimate goal of stealing creatures (the opponent has to play them first), but still pretty neat.

I bought a playset of Mental Misstep for $3 each the other day because I wanted to have them on hand and hey, my local card store was selling them for half of what they are currently going for online most places, so why not?

Come to think of it, Force of Will was an uncommon counterspell that was free to cast and was going for $3 a piece once, long ago. Think maybe I'll hang on to these for a decade, just to see.
