Re: The Very Best of Room Tone
This is one of your videos were I found the video as a whole not that great, but I got a good laugh from many things.
Re: The Very Best of Room Tone
I loved the slow-burn joke of scrolling the different room titles across the screen with the ones "playing" in yellow. Took me a second to catch on, but it was a good laugh when I did.
I feel similarly to Vigafre about the video overall, though. The X payments of $Y segments seemed to slow down the tempo when those bits are usually pretty manic in infomercials. Burning the money on a sacrificial altar is funny, but it seems like it would fit better as a joke in something like Discount Dieties rather than a Yummies commercial. Just my thought.

Pretty much this, it definitely grew on me by the end though, so maybe it was just the begining that was like that.
I never laugh out loud, but the "grasp, FLING! Skip, skipskipskip" was so perfect, definitely got a good giggle out of me.

Re: The Very Best of Room Tone
The beginning didn't grab me, to be honest. I'll echo what everyone else has said. But the shot of Paul and Graham standing recording the room made me chuckle, but the foley segment was really good. I especially liked the "kiss, kiss, stroke, stroke, strokestrokestroke" bit. Where you actually watching a love scene?

Re: The Very Best of Room Tone
I actually really enjoyed this, granted after the first bit. Had to pause the video at the Apple Loops segment because I was laughing so much.
Re: The Very Best of Room Tone
Nice concept, and some strong moments but the pace felt off, and I know it was the joke, but the long periods of silence really dragged.
Some individually funny jokes in there but the video as a whole just fell a bit flat for me.

I've gotta say, it's not your best work.
I did get a few laughs out of it though, so overall I enjoyed it. I was very pleased to see the return of Yummies.
As a side note, I like to imagine that when Graham is editing, he acts exactly like Carl Ambrose. Just staring intently at the screen saying "Cut, cut, sound clip, cut, cut."

The long period of "silence", was a joke. Just saying.Keab42 wrote:Nice concept, and some strong moments but the pace felt off, and I know it was the joke, but the long periods of silence really dragged.

Which is not to dismiss your criticism! I guess we didn't quite hit the note we were shooting for. Oh well! Next week.

Re: The Very Best of Room Tone
the payment ideas were the best parts of the video, they did give me a few laughts.
However, there is one thing that bothered me... a lot. Jer is never looking into the camera, it is like he is reading a tele-promter next to the camera, something that one usually do when playing a role as he did in the video. Don't know if anyone else was bothered by it, it might just be a side-effect of my education.
I did however form a theory that maybe it was intentional after I saw the stinger

Re: The Very Best of Room Tone
My only question is thus: was Ian wearing his trademark vest when he recorded his lines? Because it didn't sound like he was.
"Flat beer or a lumpy mattress. Take your pick."
"I'd prefer a flat mattress."
"Hmm.. Well, it could be done.. If I take the lumps out of the mattress, and put them in the beer, you'd have a flat mattress and a lumpy beer!"

Uh. . . yeah. Jer is never looking into the camera in any video, ever. You hadn't noticed until now?Smeghead wrote:However, there is one thing that bothered me... a lot. Jer is never looking into the camera
That is, he never appears to be looking at the camera, even though he actually is. It's his eye condition, I believe.

When the jokes came they really had me laughing and I had o pause a couple of times to catch my breath but the pacing between them was a little slow
That being said, there's no porn like implied porn

Re: The Very Best of Room Tone
I think the Strabismus thing was more noticeable in this video though, because he rapidly switched between his eyes in an early shot. That's why it was distracting for some folks; once you're primed for it...
As far as the video itself went, I'm bucking the trend: One of my favourites of late. The best gag was the one at the start, just endless silence with words over the top, with the most beautiful gag being some of them in yellow indicating that the particular room tone is changing, undetectably. Fantastic stuff.

Re: The Very Best of Room Tone
Yeah, the room tone was totally changing. I guess I should have boosted the volume. That was the joke I mentioned earlier.

Re: The Very Best of Room Tone
Aww. I dunno, I liked the idea that it was an inferred changing instead of an actual one.
Re: The Very Best of Room Tone
While I was watching the video I wasn't laughing a lot, but then thinking back at the end, I could pick out several parts that were quite funny. So I guess that means there were good ideas but they didn't work quite right together. I know infomercials tend to drag on and repeat themselves, but it doesn't translate as well here as in some other videos. I actually thought it was going to be one of those ones where we start with a premise and then cut away to something different part way through (similar to the one where Jer was a ninja that I for the life of me can't remember the name of). Still some clever and creative ideas though.

Re: The Very Best of Room Tone
I quite enjoyed this one, but not as a whole. each of the individual jokes were pretty awesome, but they didn't really fit as a cohesive whole.
I did notice the audio changing during the track samples. I quite enjoyed that. How did you achieve that bit of audio wizardry?

Would that be 'EZ Industries'? It's a bitch to look through the video pages on a phone, but I'm pretty sure that was the title.Tapir12 wrote:(similar to the one where Jer was a ninja that I for the life of me can't remember the name of)

Actually no, I never noticed that before. I think it was because I watched the video in fullscreen. And i didn't know about his eyecondition, I mean I know he can't watch things in 3D, but I didn't know why.

Y'know what? I don't care. Yes, I can hear the room tone now with the volume pumped up a bit more, and it still sounds identical at each point. The joke holds.

Re: The Very Best of Room Tone
I have to agree with the general sentiment, that while it wasn't a bad video and the jokes were solid, the pacing just seemed to be pretty off.
Re: The Very Best of Room Tone
While a lot of people so far don't seem to like the video overall, I, conversely, found it absolutely bleedin' hilarious! Maybe it's just 'cos I have a somewhat off-kilter sense of humour.
The pacing was also, bizarrely, part of what made me like the video. Huh. Am I just crazy or something?
