Team Fortress 2 - Free Forever/Meet the Medic
So, those who still play TF2, it is now free-to-play. Forever. Thoughts?
Personally, im re-installing it, if only to completely troll new people like I did when MW2 was released.
Also Meet the Medic is out, as well.

I feel glad that I bought TF2 back in the day.
Re: Team Fortress 2 - Free Forever/Meet the Medic
I loved Meet The Medic.
Steam forums are in an uproar about it being free now and how "free people will ruin the game." Not entirely true. Attitudes like that from BOTH sides will ruin the game.
And honestly, how are you meant to know if they're F2P or not when you're playing with them? It won't make a difference.

Re: Team Fortress 2 - Free Forever/Meet the Medic
I thought it would only be free for a week?
Anyway, I can see why people would be upset, but more people, isn't really so bad.
Anyone I'm more or less rerewatching Meet the Medic, until my TF2 updates, and then start playing... again, Me am want new Scout items, and Demoman items.

Free people will ruin the game.
Right, because the TF2 community was so friendly and welcoming beforehand...

Free people will not ruin the game. The (sarcastic) point I was making is that as far as the community is concerned, there isn't much pristine to ruin.

Re: Team Fortress 2 - Free Forever/Meet the Medic
I think it's actually free forever and that there are two different types of accounts now. Free and premium. Buy anything from Mann Co to be upgraded to premium, which basically affects crafting and item storage and so on.
Apart from that, you can still play any class and any map.

I don't think unskilled new players will ruin the game at all. From my experience most people that play TF2 play for a couple weeks, take a couple months off then pop back in player for awhile and so on.

I'm really an Engineer player (so I'm constantly getting gibbed...), but Meet the Medic may well be my new favourite Meet video. Absolutely hilarious and fantastically scripted

Wow. I'm stoked for free to play. I've had people who I wanted to play with who were to poor to actually buy the game so this is awesome.

Re: Team Fortress 2 - Free Forever/Meet the Medic
Hey did anyone here get to Ali Baba's Wee Booties yet, cuz when I tried them after I got them, I didn't see much difference then when I was without them. I didn't seem to have a turning control, still, and just went in the same straight line, without changing the direction my avatar was facing.
I'm just wondering if it's just my laptop, or if it's happening to more people besides me.

It was =p just Valve does their 'surprising' thing that they do, and announced last night that it is now entirely free (in essence).
If you are worried about hackers and griefers, I would advise that you find a well controlled server, where admins play regularly, if you are in Europe, might I recommend the GFL servers? ^_^

Re: Team Fortress 2 - Free Forever/Meet the Medic
The FreeFrag servers are pretty good about that. They're often full though and can be hard to get on. In terms of skill, I find that most people that play on them are pretty mid to low level players, there rarely seems to be someone on there that is so much more skilled that the game becomes no fun.

Oh man, that was great.
I, for one, am glad it's free to play now. More people to shoot....

Oh there will be a few people acting like dicks on there, until the novelty wears off in a few days and they move on. But I believe TF2, haven't played it in ages, is pretty team friendly as in no team killing just yourself.
Re: Team Fortress 2 - Free Forever/Meet the Medic
I wanted to try it, but wasn't sure I'd like it enough or be good enough to actually buy it.
Well, the price is right now. Though it's taking forever to download on my snails-pace internet.
Is there any sort of single player (or multiplayer with bots) so I can practice before I get my ass handed to me?

I just bought TF2 a week, and I finally see what all the fuss is about.
So, is there a LRR steam group/server for it or something?

Re: Team Fortress 2 - Free Forever/Meet the Medic
I have seen a handful of people getting angry about the free2play situation, not really sure why though. I am pretty sure it is gonna be a quick turn around rate for the people that don't like the game. So the numbers will probably even out in a few weeks across most servers.
Also damn that Tamislav, love that gun but hate it at the same time.

There isn't a dedicated server at the moment. But as I'm currently in a meeting with the Minecraft server admin team, how many people would be interested in a LRR TF2 server?
