Re: Team Fortress 2 - Free Forever/Meet the Medic
I actually bought the game JUST before it went free, but I still think it was worth it.
The only complaint is that I've been on a lot of servers in which everyone just wants to play sniper or demo (mostly sniper), at least on my team. Being primarily an engineer/medic has often felt like a lesson in futility, being either completely exposed while trying to build, or having nothing to do with my hard-earned ubercharge.
That said, this is still easily the most fun I've had with a PC FPS. Maybe it's just an illusion caused by all the new players, but I actually feel like a decent participant, rather than the guy who soaks up bullets for his team like in COD or similar games.

Re: Team Fortress 2 - Free Forever/Meet the Medic
A handy trick to go with for Engineer is not to care so much about your buildings. Just run through the map towards an objective and casually drop down a sentry behind a corner and keep running, often people don't expect it and walk straight into it. It's only really when you have a chokepoint or a definite field of combat that building placement and longevity becomes a real issue, at which point you are probably surrounded in ammo to build new stuff.
Only tonight did I actually plant a sentry, run ahead to cap a point, die, then run back past it to find that it had killed Heavy Alex without me even needing to do anything.
That said if you notice that your teleporter entrance keeps going down...probably a good sign of a spawn-camper.
Similar logic to Medic gameplay is actually Sentry placement: You need to be close enough to the action to count, but out of sight enough to not get Sniper'd or rocket'd etc. So if your target isn't moving much, seek nearby cover (like the CP guards on Nucleus) otherwise try to stay behind them and don't just walk in a straight line.

Re: Team Fortress 2 - Free Forever/Meet the Medic
And therein is my weakness when I play Engie... I care too much about my buildings. (Unless I'm playing Gunslinger Engie, and then I only don't give a damn about the Mini-Sentries.) Seriously, I take the time to upgrade all my stuff to Lv. 3, and then I watch it all get wrecked. It makes me sad.
It's also one of the reasons why my playtime with Engie is artificially inflated. I can't switch to another class because I know it'll destroy my teleporters and dispenser. People need those, man!

Steam hates me right now.
For some reason my computer can't get any server info, and I can't browse the servers, or use that new thing set up to put you right into a game.
Then for some reason if I go to my history servers, they show and let me join in.
I'm confuzzeled.

Sorry I can't do that, it violates my three laws of robotics.

Same thing is happening to me. Let me know if you find anything that works.

Sadly, I'm at work right now, so I can't join you guys, but I swear I will when I get home. Maybe I'll catch a bunch of you on the weekend.
(Also, I'm going to lag so much, aren't I? Being in Australia = sigh.)

If you're doing that it's probably a good idea to have the Gunslinger and the Frontier Justice.

Grats to whoever I was just playing one on one with.
You were hard to stab. So hard I actually had to go pyro/demoman to stand a chance.

Mmmm, medic crossbow.
I just got more kills with a medic than I've ever in history.

That was fun, but I have to play in doses, lest I blow it, and start screwing up.
