Google+
Didn't see a thread for this yet. Anyone on it? Anyone *want* to be on it? Invites are closed but if you send someone a message from it they should be able to sign up so if anyone wants in let me know.
It's turtles all the way down.

Re: Google+
Long term I wouldn't mind taking a look. After all, it's Facebook without being Facebook (translation: Facebook without Mark Zuckerburg), so how could it not work?

Facebook, regardless of being Facebook or not, is not something I'm the least bit interested in.

I think I've already invited you, 'cos you're in my GMail contacts...

Note: in Ireland 'ye' is used as the plural of 'you'. It rather neatly avoids confusion online.

Re: Google+
I'd try it, seems kinda useless, but meh, why not?
Re: Google+
I want to try it if only for the circles and the ability to control which groups see which posts I make. That feature seems so obvious that I bet Facebook implements it inside of a month. Either way, I'd be interested in a viable alternative to Facebook.

I'm pretty much okay with Google running most of the internet.

They already have it.
Maybe not as intuitive, or "circle" based, but I can do something very similar.

You're right, there does seem to be something like that, but it took you telling me about about it and me spending several minutes digging through my profile to find it. That seems sub-optimal.
In any case, I want to at least try Google+ before judging it. Maybe it will be better than Facebook. Maybe it will be like Buzz and just be a crappy imitation of what it was trying to copy. Only actually using it will tell.

Google+ is going to do to Facebook what Warhammer Online did to World of Warcraft.

Re: Google+
If anyone wants an invite, pm me your email address. People on Reddit are making secondary Google accounts to get invites and then using those to invite their main ones. That's what I suggest if you're not comfortable giving me your main one.

Re: Google+
It doesn't seem to be quite as simple as that. I definitely invited Fayili (twice) but she didn't get notification or an invite. You might need to have proper profile info or something - she doesn't have much.

I've been sending people messages from within google+, and they can join up from there. That's been working fine for me.

Re: Google+
I've stated several times that if there were a viable alternative to Facebook I'd be on there in a flash. When I saw the XKCD strip the other day I went and had a look. Couldn't get an invite though.
I'll PM you my e-mail, Gecko! I wanna see what this is like!

Re: Google+
I think it's got Facebook worried, which is a good sign. I'd like to try it though, will have to troll for invites.

I don't use social media (Especially not facebook, linkedin, etc) I'm not going to give all my private info to a company for free so they can sell it to whoever wants it.

Re: Google+
Wanna know the reason Facebook won't be hurt by this?
It's because social media is measured against the yardstick of Facebook.
It's the same reason that MP3 players won't budge the iPod and the same reason MMOs won't budge WoW. If you can describe something as "it's like X but Y," then it's not different enough from X to make a difference.
That said, I would still like to try out Google+. I hope they don't axe it like Wave.
