Would be interesting to see Jack's reaction to Smith...

Add Jack to the list of characters I'd like to see come back into the main series (also The Face of Bo).

I really enjoy this episode. Great character development.

Mirrors on the ceiling,
and pink champagne on ice, and she said
"We are all just visitors here, of our own device"
In the masters chamber, they gathered for the feast
Stab it with their steely knives
but they just can't kill the beast

Last thing I remember, I was,
running for the door.
I had to find a passage back to the place I was before.
"Relax" said the night man, "we are, programmed to receive.
You can check out any time you like,
but you can never leave"

Personally, that is just a little too close to the recent episode for my liking.

Dude I thought of that song like 5 minutes into the episode. If it is an adaptation of The Hotel California, that's kinda cool. I mean, they made it into a really good Doctor Who episode. I would just hope they own up to it.

Merrymaker_Mortalis wrote:I think . . . the doctor saw Omega. My reason for the latter is You hear the TaRDiS' warning bells which according to Wikipedia and the current new series only toll when Bad Shit is Going Down. Another is that Amy asks the Doctor near the end "What/Who do Timelords belive in?" He shrugs this off implying it's dangerous knowledge/has something to do with what he saw. I do belive Omega was the first Timelord or is viewed as the creator of Timelords [I don't know, my knowledge is Wikipedia based] so Omega could be seen as a deity.

The first three Timelords were Omega, Rassilon, and the Other. I recently rewatched The Three Doctors, in which the Doctor(s) encountered and defeated Omega; there was respect and maybe a little awe, but not a lot of fear. The Doctor was afraid when he saw Rassilon in The End of Time, but I think that was more fear of the situation than of the individual (though I could be wrong). As for the Other, it depends on whether or not you believe in the Cartmel Masterplan. :)

Still, cool theory!

It's hard to deny that the symbols of The Silence Army aren't an Omega with II down them. My theory has legs, however there is equal chance that Omega isn't implied this episode.

Thanks for pointing out the Silence symbol. I'd forgotten that.

It's been a really long time since I saw Arc of Infinity (Omega's last appearance to date). Anyone remember what his interactions with the Doctor were like in that story?

Rory has fantastic taste in cars. The Jag E Type is a thing of pure beauty. I continue to love the current series, nay sayers be darned!

Can I just say, that I had this running through my head all throughout this episode.

Great episode though, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Also, what's the betting that Rory and Amy are only gone for a single episode, giving Craig another episode for himself, before they return in the finale, especially since Karen has confirmed she is returning for series 7.

But Arthur Darvil messed up in an interview and referred to working on Who in the past tense, suggesting he won't be back for S7

There aren't that many connections really. Can't writers use other art forms of inspiration any more? They hardly ripped the eagles off, I mean, the idea of a hotel from which you cannot check out is not exclusive to that song.

it's like saying the Twilight books are too close to Buffy the Vampire Slayer because they both contain vampires.

Oh yeah, man, nothing is original, and nothing has been for a long time. Every creator is influenced by others, whether you call it inspiration, homage, or theft. And remember all those times that wankers on the E have accused LRR of stealing sketch ideas from other comedy troupes? Sometimes, it's just coincidence.

Also, of course Rory and Amy will be back for the finale; don't be stupid.

I wasn't saying it in a "They've ripped off the Eagles". That would be preposterous.

What I meant was that there are quite a few similarities, and I might suggest it is more than a coincidence.

Well the people seem to smile/laugh in their minds as they have their mental breakdown in the hotel so... I think we've found the *true* influence for the episode (not that Eagle's song).

We just rewatched the end of Planet of the Spiders, which involved a long conversation between the Doctor and the guru who trained him back on Gallifrey. They were discussing the Doctor's greatest fear. I'm not entirely sure what they were trying to say, but it seemed to say that what he most feared was spiders. (The fifth Doctor and the eighth Doctor were later also shown to be afraid of spiders, for what that's worth.)

I don't think this is what he saw, though. We didn't see what was in his room, but we did hear the cloister bell.
