19 - Soldiers of Fortune

So Wizards sent us some D&D Fortune Cards to use in Feed Dump. Shockingly, the results were... silly.

Feed Dump: Planking Edition.

Why would you destroy one of those cards? ;_;

A very old school Whatever Thing style episode. Ent! From certain angles, Jer appears to be humping the floor for added creep factor. Was gonna say this episode of Feed Dump was apparently brought to us by the planking council; should've been quicker off the mark. Still, Paul's presence is an encouraging sign for the prescription eye wear market.

Entertaining, indeed.

Also, product placement?

Only Graham was "planking" so I wouldn't really consider them planking as a whole.

Pretty much yes, but I'd like to think we've been completely open and transparent about it.

And, it's important to note that we do legitimately love D&D too. We're not going to "sell out" our opinions :D

Heck, most of LRR met each other over the D&D table.

Turns out that Graham is good at planking.

Also, I'm glad it's not just me that briefly thought, "...okay, Jer, time to stop humping the floor." That was either a little disturbing or kinda poorly thought out.

That plank was all knees and nipples, across the chair's arms.

I was half expecting Jer or Paul to kick you in the balls 5-second film style for planking the chair. I will agree that the cards spicing up Feed Dump made a good case for picking those up for a dnd game.

That was a pretty good product placement: you took the cards and went in your own creative direction with them. You should turn this into an ongoing sponsorship opportunity: let companies send you their product to be used in a video, but they won't know how you're going to use it until the video goes live.

Perhaps start a LRRCast style thread each week for challenges and dice roll to pick ones at random...?

Actually no, that would result in a miny Desert Bus EVERY WEEK, I'm pretty sure that would kill them and then where would I get weekly word that (vaguely) rhymes with news?

Re: 19 - Soldiers of Fortune

Postby JackSlack » 29 Sep 2011, 04:15

Hello, I'm JackSlack for Action 9 news. I am here to announce I have been, in fact, fired. My previous screw ups... multiple... in the counting of today's episode have been enough to result in my professional ruination. Fortunately, I have a D&D Fortune card -- "Take Your Pink Slip and Shove It" that gives me a saving through against that sort of thing, and I roll twenties, bitches. Oh, what a horror it is in these post-haturation times that even sketch comedians have been forced to resort to product placement. Still, it was Daché; or was it Mirman? who said, "About three episodes after a haturation you're gonna get some ridiculous shit like a randomizer involved in a Feed Dump." How right you were, ma'am. How right you were.

Of course, she said it in French. But, y'know.

So, with that in mind and in our post-haturation universe of woe, let's take a look at the final stats for this week.

Image

Oh, yes. New chart. Last one was getting a bit cluttered. From now on we'll be only showing the last ten episodes in the count-by-count. Still, as we can see, the fateful trio of hats, specs and hatless continue to dance delicately around each other, taunting the faithful with their near confluence. Plus, wigs and NPEW still suck as investments (0% a piece). Goddamn penny stocks. Hats are down down down like nothing we've ever seen before (to 16.07%) while hatless came back from its unheralded total loss to see a very respectable 50%. Prescription Eyewear saw cautious gains of roughly 5%, making it a very boring Pick of the Week.

Image

Haturation levels returned to normalcy this week and hopefully mark the end of the post-haturation confusion, leading to (we can only pray) more stable markets ahead.

And so, after a long and tiring day fighting with managers, this is JackSlack saying, "Eleven Hit Die Aberration".

There's not much I can say really other than .... I approve of EVERYthing going on in this video. Really, everything. I hope this won't be the last time we see the D&D cards!

I'm just imagining a world where people could carry around those cards during their normal lives and use them like they did in fump.
