I knew Jer was leaving, but Alex?

Postby Nanosauromo » 10 Oct 2011, 16:39

On the "About Us" page, Alex has been moved from the main crew to the contributor section. What's the deal with that?

Well, we all knew that Alex was busy with his new side project. This could be to do with that. Either he is leaving for a while, or reducing his role a bit to work on his other project.

I wouldn't jump to any conclusions, however, until we have word from Graham, Paul and the others.

I'd point out, though, that they're also now listing Crapshots as a 'previously produced' show. Alex, say it ain't so. Say it ain't so!

I think "leaving" is too strong a word. Members of the crew come and go as they have other projects/responsibilities to work on.

I'm sure we're still going to see Alex around. Especially if he's still living with Graham and Kathleen.

I know; Zyxst has a WONDERFUL opening all worked up and ready for submission if there's ever a HINT of Whatever Thing creeping back into the limelight. :(

Right, so our wish list is:

*Crap Shots, season 2

*Whatever Thing: the Return

*Jangles and Jones: Back from Wherever

*Celestial Sea, episodes 7+

*Rapidfire III

Mmmmmmmmmm...

Gawd, if I had to choose just ONE of these, I'd probably end up in tears, patches of hair pulled out of my scalp. :P

I would like to add the Loading Ready Live DVD to the wish list, especially since every time I listen through the podcast archive I hear Graham giving status updates & the last time it's mentioned it seems to be almost ready.

He might be spending more time in Toronto to work on his other project so can't fully commit to LRR.

Just so you know, Alex has been marked for as a contributor since he came back from Toronto a year ago.

I was under the impression that they no longer had plans to release it as the (audio?) quality was not up to sufficient standards for them to feel comfortable selling it.

*Since Alex is busy with other projects, more Crapshots are unlikely until he's finished with those projects.

*Morgan is apparently trapped in France due to a train strike. The chances of him editing a video ever again are asymptotically zero. And besides, we have Feed Dump now, which is a spiritual (profitable) successor to the Whatever Thing (via Phailhaus). Actually it's not even a spiritual successor. It's exactly the same thing! Except Feed Dump has good graphics! And hats! And comes out on a weekly basis! Why do you want The Whatever Thing back again?

*See the first part of the above point. Unless Jangles gets replaced, all we've got right now is Jones. Though... honestly this is probably something that could conceivably happen.

*(1)I seem to remember one of the crew saying at some point they don't even have the capability to do machinima anymore. Like, the program got deleted or something. (2)I'm not sure how "fair-use" it would be for a group looking to be business-like and to do machinima. It feels like it falls into the "fanfiction" area of litigation, where the status is "fine, as long as you don't make a profit from it." (3) Honestly, I don't think it's worth the crew even risking it. I'd rather see their smiling faces acting things out. I don't think they need the Machinima.

*I... actually cannot figure out why they stopped doing Repidfire. It's pretty fantastic. Maybe it just burns through too many sketch ideas? But I'd imagine they have a lot of them that won't work as fully formed sketches anyway....

---

In summary: I think Rapidfire is probably the most reasonable thing to ask for more of.

I'm pretty sure machinima falls under fair use, under parody (hell, Machinima.com is getting away with it). Also, they do Unskippable; they're already making money commenting over someone else's product.

And whether or not they have the software, see: Unskippable.
