A bunch of Ds, with other Ds

Postby Graham » 21 Oct 2011, 17:23

The Ds and Ds!

Just wanted to make sure you guys saw the blog post about the awesome D&D stuff we're working on.

Also, a personal apology for not posting that sooner. We try to keep you guys up to date on stuff like this, and this was entirely a matter of "we didn't get around to it".
Whoopsies :)

I hope I explained everything pretty well, but if there's any questions you've got, I'll gladly answer them here!

*cough* sellouts *cough*

I'm excited to see what you can do with some of their products. I mean, you guys make great stuff, WotC makes great stuff, so great stuff about great stuff should be double great, right?

guys please calm down, though met when I saw your name on the last poster I friggin called it
.
But you guys know they don't make a lot of money doing this, yes they get paid but not enough to quit their day jobs. And remember the season 4 finale podcast "if we're doing this in 10 years, we're getting paid for it" This isn't getting paid (alot) but this is still saving them money and they can provide the same entertainment they did years ago.

On that note, that word did cross my mind. I know of d&d an have played a couple times but not recently. I still enjoy the videos however myself, and as long as you LRR has fun providing LRRites with fun content that I enjoy, it's all good

I... don't think he was being serious? That is, I don't think anyone thinks they're "sellouts" or whatever.

Woah there, I don't think either were actually freaking out, gcninja. But I appreciate the enthusiasm.

We've always said (only halfways jokingly) that we're prepared to sell out, so we can keep doing what we love.

As it happens we're in the enviable position of deciding WHO we "sell out" too. Meaning we can pick something we already like.
Heck, we've been doing D&D videos for years, for free!

If anyone has a legit gripe, I'd be happy to entertain discussion.

Seeing as I'd be rather disappointed if you weren't featuring D&D (and related products) in your videos, as that would drop the geeky humour quotient significantly, I see no problem with this.

So wait, WotC is paying for you to use their products in your normal videos, AND to do Friday Nights? Sounds like a good deal.

Well, I'd expect you to do WotC stuff anyways. I guess my question would be, do you have to make videos about a particular product, or not? That is, I know you said you decide what you say, but do you have to say something at all?
For instance that new board game, if you had said "Meh, not feeling like it", could you just not have made anything about it, and skipped it altogether?

Graham, tell your Money-waving evil overlords at WotC that their malevolent sceme is working. I just bought The Legend of Drizzt boardgame because I found out about its existance in your video. Also, the very first monster I drew was the Spider-guy, so I lol'd. Then I cried, because I found out why James' character was praying it wouldn't be him.

I love the game so far, so thank you for that.

I would ask you to tell our money-waving evil overlords at WotC that their malevolent scheme is working.

It'll mean more to them from you than from us.

(maybe don't call them evil though. :p )

You guys together with D&D On Ice have had me spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on Wizards product.

Eeebil. I have a gripe, that gripe is that you don't have a D&D podcast.

To be fair, I was already a fan enough of those things to have a Legend of the Spelljammer boxed set, so not like it changed anything.

Unlike Ultra Pro changing their protector size without announcement. Do you have any idea how hard that makes sorting cubes?!?

EDIT: If you make a D&D podcast sponsored by WotC, have it on YouTube so I can listen to it on the go. Grumble grumble Blip not supporting Android phones.

They're aware. At the time, Mike Mearls even posted it to his own blog, marvelling at the similarities between Matt and himself.

My only concern is informing the public. A lot of the posts in the Escapist forums (for The Secret Lives of Board Games) were talking about what a great 'unintentional advertisement' for the product it was. No. It was an intentional one, completely and wholly.

Now, that's fine that it is! Sponsored content has a lot history, and I don't doubt your honesty. But I do think it might be worth putting a '[Product X] provided by Wizards of the Coast' in your credits for such videos, just to eliminate any possible confusion.

JackSlack, I hope you don't think I'm being harsh, but that comment of yours reads to the informed viewer like it comes from watching a great deal of The Gruen Transfer.
