*Rage noises*
Trying to schedule D&D with five other people seems impossible sometimes. After spending the better part of the last week discussing back and forth when it would work we finally settle on a time tomorrow. When I post back the plan to confirm it, one of them says that he's busy pretty much all day. No warning, after we've been talking about it for a week, and it doesn't even sound like its something that's just came up. And we'd be able to do it over the weekend no problem, except he's going down the States then. How hard can it be to tell us that he's going to be busy BEFORE we use a bunch of time and effort trying to arrange a time around his schedule? :x

I'm pretty annoyed over something kinda stupid. I keep telling myself it's stupid to be mad over it, but the more I think about it the madder I get. UGG.

Wake up, comp is turned off...
that's strange, maybe it crashed overnight.
Won't turn on, have to un-plug it from the wall and re-plug it, when i turn it on all the fans in it shutdown after about 2seconds of being on again then start about 5 seconds later.

Bios is stuffed.
There was no power outages, it just gave up while i was sleeping.

corralling a stage crew; getting straight answers from the director; getting the damn contract sent out by the set rental company; arranging to run a canoe coaching session this saturday when I don't have contact details for most of the people involved; getting anywhere at allwith the fairer sex - all these things and more are eluding me at the moment and it's fucking frustrating.

Ok, I'm pissed at my parents. So when my sister left for college (or a few years after, I don't really remember), my grandfather had bought a new car and she got the old, which she's been driving until now. And now my brother (who is a sophomore in college) got a research assitant job in the forrestry department at his school and my parents are giving him a car.

Now, I'm 24 and I know I shouldn't be expecting things from my parents, but apparently I'm not "responsible" or a good enough driver to get a car! wtf? Seriously? You're going to give the kid WHO GOT ARRESTED FOR POT LAST YEAR, and YOU KNOW DRINKS HEAVILY EVEN THOUGH HE"S UNDERAGE a car?

Seriously, I'm in grad school, I can't afford a car, but you gave your other two kids a car? I'm fucking pissed.

I know it's not entirely relevant to the argument you're making korri, but smoking pot underage isn't that bad, depending on how heavily he drinks could make that quite a valid point, but smoking pot between the ages of 15-20? Well, i've never had a problem with it, but these days it's at the point that it is as common as kids that age looking up porn. Though if he starts spending more than $100 a week on it, then your argument becomes entirely valid.

It's more that he's a complete dumbass about it. He did in his dorm room and got caught by campus police so he had a bigger sentence... I'm not getting on the pot smoking, its just that, I, who've never gotten in any kind of trouble at school or with the police isn't responsible enough for a car, but the one who is dumb enough to smoke in a campus building is.

Ok, so today I did something that I would normally consider reprehensible behaviour. And under normal circumstances, I would be embarrassed. These were more than normal circumstances, however.

My phone went off while I was in an audience. Normally I'm pretty militant about turning mine off. In the cinema, always. In the theatre, definitely always. In class, always always.

But, today, during a school Q&A with an Academy Award winning actress and director, I left my phone on. And it went off. Twice. I felt a complete arse. I turned it off after the first time, made sure it was off and sat down again. Then the fucking thing turned itself back on, and went off again. I left the theatre and tore the battery out. Damage had already been done, I got some filthy looks from faculty. I felt like the arsiest of arses. And quite right too, I should know better. I should have left my bag in my locker, but no, I chose today to be an idiot.

Anyway, after the Q&A I spoke to the actress in question, if you're interested it was Christine Lahti, and apologized profusely. She laughed it off, and said not to worry about it. I still feel like an arse though.

Other than that, it was a good day.

This woman has an almost inhuman ability to make me angry. And reading back, she seems perfectly fine. But when she's talking to me... I don't know how she does it.

(9:19:31 PM) Mom: Is this the weekend you are housesitting?
(9:19:42 PM) Me: I'm taking care of neighbors' cats this weekend
(9:19:48 PM) Me: I was housesitting this house last weekend
(9:19:54 PM) Mom: oh
(9:20:02 PM) Mom: When do we see you again?
(9:20:17 PM) Me: Next weekend?
(9:20:41 PM) Mom: ok. your stepdad arranged the library for your game.
(9:20:46 PM) Me: Yay!
(9:20:55 PM) Mom: have you told your friends what to do about food? potluck?
(9:21:19 PM) Me: I did e-mail [Stepdad] about this
(9:21:34 PM) Mom: i talked to him about it, but he didn;t tell me he'd talked to you
(9:21:52 PM) Me: Well, it was an hour or two ago
(9:22:02 PM) Mom: what's the short version?
(9:22:26 PM) Me: Don't think there's normally food; I may make pasta and/or grilled cheeses if needed
(9:22:50 PM) Mom: ask your friends to bring food. it's normal for gamers to contribute -- it's expected.
(9:23:43 PM) Mom: are you buying the food for pasta, grilled cheese, etc?
(9:25:58 PM) Mom: ?
(9:26:50 PM) Mom: hello?
(9:27:04 PM) Mom: where'd you go?
(9:28:15 PM) Me: Sorry; a bit distracted right now
(9:28:28 PM) Mom: ok
(9:28:42 PM) Mom: so are you buying the food, and have you asked them to contribute?
(9:29:08 PM) Me: I can ask, and there aren't that many of them.
(9:30:12 PM) Mom: Let me put it another way. If you plan a party, you are providing the food and you are paying for it. You're going to be 19, now. It's time for you to start being an adult, okay?
(9:31:08 PM) Mom: ok?
(9:32:06 PM) Mom: yes?
(9:32:09 PM) Me: ...it's not a party
(9:32:26 PM) Mom: Erin....
(9:33:57 PM) Mom: You don't invite 7 young adults to our house and just expect [Stepdad] and me to be a bottomless well of money and supplies. Sweetheart, you are nearly *19*. Are still a child? Or are you a young adult? You can't be both.
(9:34:25 PM) Mom: (okay, you *are* my child, but you know what I mean.)
(9:35:11 PM) Me: I wasn't
(9:35:25 PM) Me: I wasn't even expecting foodings to be happening. I don't know how these things work.
(9:36:34 PM) Mom: You have been to many MANY gamer days. You know how these work. There is food. There is *always* food. The games run for hours, and people get hungry.
(9:37:31 PM) Me: I mean F%F specifically
(9:37:37 PM) Me: They run things differently
(9:37:46 PM) Mom: So, tell them it's potluck. And offer to make something, too.
(9:38:13 PM) Mom: Noon to 8 pm, right?
(9:38:49 PM) Me: Yes
(9:40:05 PM) Mom: Okay -- plan for potluck, and let them know. Be casual. Say something like, "I'm going to make some pasta. You guys can bring something to go with. We could use some drinks, maybe a loaf of bread to make garlic bread, some snackie things."
(9:44:25 PM) Me: There. Much simpler.
(9:44:26 PM) Me: Me: What do you guys normally do for food during F%F?
(9:40:57 PM) [Friend]: If memory serves, it's almost always involved pizza.
(9:41:20 PM) [Friend]: Bringing snacks is encouraged, I should remind [DM] to state that.
(9:42:19 PM) Me: Okay
(9:42:27 PM) Me: Do people chip in for pizza? :P
(9:43:06 PM) [Friend]: If necessary, yes.
(9:43:37 PM) Me: Okay, cool
(9:44:04 PM) [Friend]: I shall remind [DM] to have people bring money for that purpose
(9:47:16 PM) Mom: Good. Are you glad you asked? :) Pizza runs about $30 delivered per pizza. You might find get a cheaper deal going with someplace like RedHat (the old Gina's, by Albany Bowl), and get a 1 or 2 topping pizza and use a coupon. That will run about $20 delivered (with tip). Tip is 15% - 20%.. Most drivers expect 20%
(9:47:35 PM) Mom: Let me check the coupon drawer.
(9:48:02 PM) Me: ...
(9:48:09 PM) Me: Smugness is really annoying. :/
(9:48:35 PM) Mom: It's not smugness. I'm serious. It's good not to be suprised.
(9:49:07 PM) Mom: Coupons for: Albany Pizza Co, SF Pizza, and Milano Pizza
(9:49:20 PM) Me: Okay
(9:49:51 PM) Mom: Best deal looks like www.sanfranciscopizzaria.com
(9:50:11 PM) Mom: We have good coupons for them.
(9:50:35 PM) Mom: 2 mediums 2 topping for $18
(9:51:00 PM) Me: Okay
(9:51:35 PM) Mom: 20" giant pizza, 1 topping $16.
(9:51:43 PM) Mom: Anyway, you're covered.
(9:52:59 PM) Mom: Have you applied to any schools? Do you need me to reimburse you for fees?
(9:53:19 PM) Me: Not yet; I've been catching up on C#.
(9:53:45 PM) Mom: Catching up? You're behind?
(9:54:39 PM) Me: Just a bit.
(9:55:45 PM) Mom: I won't even ask why. I hope you figure out the procrastination thing, though. Let me know if I can help with application fees. Deadlines are fast approaching. All the early submission dates have already passed.
(9:55:58 PM) Me: ...Good night, Mom.
(9:56:07 PM) Mom: Good night Little One.

Ok, weird rant time.

Why are all movies so sad!
Even freaking harry potter had a sad ending with like, 5 minutes of happy tacked onto the end of it...
I'm begining to think that hollywood has something against good moods.

i mean, think about it. Captain America, The last 3 harry potter movies, Thor, and now Source Code, and these are just the movies i've watched today and yesterday...

I'm starting to think producers actually have secret stocks in anti-depression meds -_-

God, your mom sounds really annoying. On the one hand she's like "You're an adult now!" but on the other hand she's treating you like a child and holding your hand every step of the way and not trusting you to take care of things.
Seriously, no need to make a hassle out of things, you play the game, people get hungry, you go "let's order pizza" and everyone checks how much they have to contribute. Sure, you can also plan ahead, but there is no reason to have to do it in front of her or provide her with proof that you've done it. She could have just said "we're not providing any food" and left it at that without checking on you about everything (who you contacted, what they said, what your plan is...)
If you're an adult, you can take care of it on your own. I think you should probably tell her that. She might be willing to step back a little bit (you'll just have to prove that you don't need her or she'll step back in).

I haven't spoken to my mother in years. I just can't bear it. When I was still living with her, like 8 years ago or so, I would get up in the morning, start preparing my breakfast, and she'd be on my back the whole time.
"Do you want orange juice?"
"I'm fine, mom. Taking care of it."
"Do you want apple juice, then?"
"I'm already making my own breakfast"
"What about hot chocolate? Do you want hot chocolate?"
"No"
"Do you want some cereal?"
"Leave me alone"
"Why do you talk to me like that? I'm trying to help you and be a nice mom! Stop pushing me away!"

Ugh. I always had a bad relationship with her. She's getting along better with my brothers, because they let her keep peeling their fruit and cutting it or whatever, and I've never liked that. She just can't stand the idea of her kids not being dependent on her. Once I moved out she tried to convince me not to get a job, too, because she wanted me to be financially dependent on her as well.
Not to mention how she always tried to badmouth anyone I was friends with so I'd have nobody else but her.

My dad thinks she's perfect (his own words. Ugh.) but she's just a manipulative bitch who likes playing the victim while emotionally blackmailing everyone around her. Ugh. I've been happier than ever since I've stopped dealing with her.

I concur with everyone else, Fayili; sounds like your mum was laying on the condescension rather thick and, despite asking you if you're an adult (which is dumb. You're 19, of course you're an adult :?), still trying to lead you through planning your day by the nose.

I hope you can more than "move out" soon.

My mum isn't as bad as your maternal beings sound, everyone, but I still wanna get the fuck outta here asap. Too bad it'll probably take me a couple years. :x

My mom definitely isn't as bad as a lot of yours sound :/ I mean, we get along sometimes, and she really does mean well. I suspect there's as much an issue on my part as on hers, but I also suspect I really need some distance from her, and she doesn't understand that.
