Want Deus Ex: Human Revolution? - WINNER POSTED!
Well, now one of you can have it!
I got one of those free Steam game codes from a graphics card purchased by my father for DX:HR.
I already own the game, so I thought I'd offer it to you guys in raffle form!
I figure, leave a post here by November 1st stating that you'd like to be included in the raffle. On that day, I'll pick someone at random à la King Kool's raffles and send them the Steam code.
Unless it doesn't generate enough interest, in which case I might have to find someone else to take it.
So yeah, anyone interested?

I too am interested.
Actually, I don't think I can run it, so nevermind.

Very Interested, but I must be charitable and echo what Elomin said.

Guys, a) I don't believe she can. Something to do with the terms of service and stuff.
b) you're kind of being dicks. Think about it. "I'm going to do something nice for one of my friends on the forums, but to be fair, I'll raffle it." "oh, no, that's not good enough, you should auction it off."
c) when Littleman 64 gave away Torchlight and Audiosurf in a similar manner, no one said anything about Desert Bus, what's up with that?

a) DB is closing in, not when Torchlight was around

I don't think people are being dicks, I think people are saying that it might be a cool thing to do. Rather than singling out one person on the forums it gets put towards something that all of us enjoy and does some good.
It's a neat suggestion, not a hate.
Either way, whatever she decides, aubergine is being very generous.

***NOTA BENE: Not 'entering' this raffle, as I already have DXHR. ***
Strictly speaking, giving it away is against the Terms of Service, too. (No, I'm NOT kidding )
But I agree that while this intra-forum 'raffle' is unlikely to draw the attention of 'The Man', DBFH gets a lot more publicity. And besides, none of us wanna risk dragging down the reputation of a wonderful charity fundraiser with ethically-grey acts, do we?
This seems the safer option...unless you wanna get in touch with Eidos, Square AND VALVe and get their expressed permission to do the charity auction. (In all honesty, I think they'd all say yes, but the time it'd take to get approval would probably end up 'missing the Bus.' )
Okay, THAT seems to be coming off as a little overly sensitive - you know Elomin is abrupt, yet rarely intends offense. I'm pretty well-known for flying off the handle at statements of vague tone, so "it takes one to know one!"
Elomin suggesting a more philanthropic alternative isn't really behaving dickishly; it's Elomin being Elomin is the dickish part!
(ya know I love ya, buddy!)
July - November: 4 months
October - November: 1 month
Likely no one thought of Desert Bus in the middle of summer; YOU didn't...but then, neither did I.

Ooh, cool. Count me in for said raffle.
As far as Desert Bus...It seems like not the most fitting thing to auction anyway, cause it's just a commonplace product?

Re: Want Deus Ex: Human Revolution?
Technically speaking empath, the card states, "Offer may not be substituted, exchanged, sold, or redeemed for cash or other goods or services."
Are they using the word "exchange" in reference to giving something away? Because usually "exchange" requires that the other person give you something in return, but then they explicitly state this after the word "exchange."
Nevertheless, no one needs to know. But I'm not going to ask for money for this, for a couple of reasons:
1. DX:HR is of a finite, measurable value: whatever the current price is. Why would anyone pay more than the retail price for a game, even if it was "for the children"? At least handmade items have no concrete monetary value, and therefore bidders can assign their own "value" to the items.
2. I was going to give this to Levi, but decided to offer it to you guys because I like all of you. I was trying to share my good fortune with you guys. I'm not going to change this from a social act into a sale.

Re: Want Deus Ex: Human Revolution?
That's very generous of you, Aubergine, and I'd very much love to be included in the raffle.
As to the rest of you, you guys are being ridiculous. I don't understand why you'd auction off something that costs exactly 50 dollars to purchase. It's a Steam Code. It's not an item, or an object, doesn't have any sentimental value or worth beyond the 50 dollars the game normally costs.
The point of auctioning off things during Desert Bus is the things being auctioned off are special in some way, or rare. You can't get them anywhere else, or they're signed, etc. This is a Steam Code. If you wanted to, you could pay 50 dollars to Steam and generate another one, or ten more, and auction them off for Desert Bus too! I think we should avoid diluting the awesomeness of Desert Bus auction items by including things that you can literally just purchase in a store.

I believe what it means here is that the offer can't be exchanged etc. for something not related. So if you wanted to use it to get something other than DX:HR you can't.
It doesn't seem to say you're not allowed to give it to someone else so I don't see how there would be a problem. It's only really the same as being able to give codes to another person if you own a particular game in a package right?

Why do I feel empath has violated me with a back handed compliment the size of a backhoe?

Re: Want Deus Ex: Human Revolution?
What I find a bit contradicting with the suggestion of selling it on Desert Bus is that if someone bought it on there they'd definitely have the money to buy the game anyway, so wouldn't it be nicer to GIFT this free copy of the game to someone who doesn't have the money to buy it in the first place?
Personally I'm not interested as me and the hubby already own a copy of the game. =)

Re: Want Deus Ex: Human Revolution?
I'm with Ditto, this wouldn't make a good auction on its own.
You should run a photoshop contest or something in this thread for it. Or just give it to someone at random. We'll pass on it as a DB auction, but thanks.

I'd be interested, and I'd much prefer raffle to contest, as I have no talents, and now I'd at least stand a chance of winning (though my luck is... questionable oftentimes).
Re: Want Deus Ex: Human Revolution?
Count me out for the raffle. Don't really have time for a lot of gaming right now.
Give it to someone who will love and care for it properly.
