Re: Ye Olde Official Skyrim Discussion Thread (Spoilers?)
So, after changing the .ini files to "Increase" performance, it's just made my outside lag glitches worse.
And i think the 15x damage from backstabbing was a big mistake now. I've spent hte afternoon doing about 5 of the Kill person X quests, and everytime i just sneak up to every guard and every person and 1 hit them with my fine glass dagger.
and the last fight i was in was (Thieves guild spoilers here on out.) Mercer frey, when he went invisible after taking half my health, i downed a pot of invisibillity as well, he un-cloaks screaming at me without being able to see me, and i power backstabbed him for a 1hit key mission victory. It was ridiculous. Same thing with the ice troll on the path to the grey beards.
So thinking I'll give the game another two play go's round after i finish my 1hit assassin run, one with a big heavy armour sword and shield fighter, one with a necromancer. Cause as is, I've run into the stalker problem. If i turn the difficulty any higher i will get 1hit, but as it is i 1 hit them.

Level 15. I stopped pissing about with smithing and a few quests here and there and got on with the main story. I can now finally shout. And make Dwarven armour.

Re: Ye Olde Official Skyrim Discussion Thread (Spoilers?)
I quit earlier.
The lagg is just too bad when I'm not in a dungeon, if i knew how to limit the FoV to alot less than the minor default, and turn off things like snow and rain...
As it is, I take 5 steps on a horse and freeze for 5-10 seconds, it un-freezes, then i take another 5 steps and another 5-10 seconds...

Heavy armoured people makes sniper kitty sad:(
It feels a *lot* harder to kite people in Skyrim (if they actually get to you).

I just killed a dragon by hacking at its groin until it died. Then I LOLed.
Just putting that out there.

I FINALLY HAVE A HOUSE! 400 weight off my shoulders with bars, ores, leathers and dragon entrails. AND! The best part? RIGHT next to a blacksmith!
Yeah, I'll be staying there until 100 smithing. I don't care about the story right now.

Re: Ye Olde Official Skyrim Discussion Thread (Spoilers?)
I recently discovered that many shopkeepers tend to carry large quantities of gold around in their pockets, and that the gold actually replenishes, so if you can get your pickpocket skill up high enough and manage to get the perk where its virtually impossible to fail at stealing gold, you're pretty much set for money, although after draining Whiterun dry, I didn't have quite enough to buy a house, so I'm off doing a few other things before I go back and try again.

Re: Ye Olde Official Skyrim Discussion Thread (Spoilers?)
I completed the companions quest chain, started the Dark Brotherhood and after will do the Bard's College (I hope it's Dragon Age bardom)and then thieves. I might consider starting the main quest after that...
Re: Ye Olde Official Skyrim Discussion Thread (Spoilers?)
Let's see...
>Hit the halfway point on the Thieves Guild quest line (BIG twist comes in there, I highly suggest everyone get to this point)
>The Civil War in Skyrim ended, Imperials are now in charge (And thus will begin planning their methods for an eventual counter attack against the Thalmor)
>Bought a house in Riften after the War ended
>Sneak, Light Armor, Archery and One Handed are ALL 60 or higher now
>Killed about 12/14 some odd durrguns (I decided to nickname dragons 'durrguns' because they're stupid enough to fall for my cheap camping tactics as an archer)
And that's all I can think of commenting on now. Main goal now is to work on building up 30-40k so I can buy the Manor in Solitude AND furnish it, as for how I'll do that, I haven't decided yet.
Build by the way is a 'Rogue' that is a Thief Skills focused character who dabbles in 2/3 other talents from the other trees, but rarely touches anything else. I don't plan to touch the Companion quests and if I take up being a mage, it will PURELY be destruction and restoration and it will be a sort of 'alias' for my Khajit character. He's a bit of a spellsword really, likes to mix it up with enchanted weaponry and either a destro or resto spell in his left hand and a sword/dagger in the right. But he's most effective as a silent assassin with daggers and archery. I've downed 'so' many enemies just from baiting them with arrows making sounds near them and it's quite satisfying.
The sooner I get some other stuff done though, the sooner I can work on the other builds I had in mind, like a Daedric (Black/Death/Dark) Knight (Heavy armored spellsword, seeks out the daedric artifacts, possibly either 'soul-less' or just pure evil, Brotherhood leader,) Dragonslayer (Stormcloak Loyal, Companion Guild, potentially werewolf no magic using warrior) and a Sage (Pure magic focus, while dabbling in speechcraft and daggers, but also being a 'spy' on the sidelines, with the intent of being the head of the College in mind).
Once I've gotten this initial playthrough out of the way though, I'll feel less inclined to try and tackle 'every' quest the game throws at me.

Re: Ye Olde Official Skyrim Discussion Thread (Spoilers?)
I'm building a spellsword.
Talos worshipping, daedric artifact hunting, one handed weapon wielding, heavily armored, nord. His focus is on blades with a destruction spell or staff in one hand, and an enchanted or conjured sword in the other. The reason for conjuring is they will (soon) apply soul trap automatically, so I can keep my staves and swords fully charged with azura's star, or enchant new armors to keep me alive.
I'm currently the head of the Companions and Arch-Mage.
I've yet to pick a side in the war, since fucking christ guys, grey morality.

Is it just me, or is The Dark Brotherhood "secret hidden base" not very well hidden? The giant glowing skull on the talking door?

Hence the password.
Though you raise a good point. Just get archers to camp there. At least in Oblivion they had a secondary entrance.

Re: Ye Olde Official Skyrim Discussion Thread (Spoilers?)
So... I went back to windhelm today and deposited some more stuff int he chest of every-things. And realised, i'm now at something like 40k... Just because theonly things i buy anymore are health pots (Where?! Nobody has them now!) and lockpicks... The money aspect, is the first thing i can honestly say, oblivion does better.
The second thing is enchanting and alchemy.
Also. this morning i woke up, jumped into oblivion, dealt with captain hargar or "He who cheats and goes into unbreakable insta death animation when you drop below 300hp." and then went off to the pelagius wing of the castle for that quest.
And all i'll say is, HOMG SHEOGORATH I LOVE YOU HAVE MY BABYS!

Seriously. Bethesda has done something perfectly for once. They've understood that they can't just give him an entire game (Shivering isles doesn't count) and instead give him to us in moderation. Also, in Skyrim he is so so much more fun to listen to.

Re: Ye Olde Official Skyrim Discussion Thread (Spoilers?)
So I'm 100 smithing now. I can make dragon armour. It's SLIGHTLY worse than Daedric armour but dragon scales and bones are way easier to find than ebony. What a NIGHTMARE! I ransacked a mine, got enough ebony to make a set of armour! Turns out it's used in Daedric too AND the Daedra hearts!
Also, there's no dragon weapon. But I CAN upgrade armour and weapons to Legendary status which gives it a significant rating boost. More damage, more defence. Totally worth taking it to 100.
Now I just need to raise my other skills!

And then he raised sneak and realised he can solo the game on Expert with an iron dagger.
But seriously, where are the Daedra? So far i hear bits and pieces about the princes and ladys, and I've met nocturnal and Sheogorath and that one abandoned house. But not seen any actual Daedra, even though i have sold like, 40 helms of theirs so far.

I've summoned and fought a few.
For one thing, spending time in Oblivion isn't the focus of this game, so Daedra aren't as common.

Re: Ye Olde Official Skyrim Discussion Thread (Spoilers?)
I've not seen Daedra but I HAVE bought their hearts from alchemists. I found 2 in The White Phial and you only need 1 heart per piece. As well as the motherfucking nightmarish EBONY! But I managed to buy that from traveling between 3 towns over and over.
It was not cheap. Managed to make back a little money from old dwarven and elven armour I made.

Would that it were so! D: Everything kills me in 5 hits unless it's integral to the plot that I survive it, and at the moment I can only take out about half their health with a backstab.
Also, Kobra: I question your priorities. Seriously.
"Hooray, I'm the best blacksmith in Skyrim! Now to settle into my little house with my sexy wife and lead a completely average life as dragons ravage the landscape."
Re: Ye Olde Official Skyrim Discussion Thread (Spoilers?)
Lydia is BEAUTIFUL in ebony armour! And now that I have the best sword in the game (that I know of), I'm going to do some Dark Brotherhood quests looking like a Daedric Overlord! Not too keen on it. Really liked the ebony.

Re: Ye Olde Official Skyrim Discussion Thread (Spoilers?)
If you can't backstab power attack everything while facing them because your sneak is so high, you're doing it wrong.
Seriously, i have 60k in gold and still use a random fine glass dagger, because there is maybe two-three things that can survive my onslaught of backstabs.
On the otherhand, kill animations need to go away. NOW. One cave, about 10 falmer, one got the drop on me, with 400 health is 1shot kills me with it's special attack animation. I quit and probably won't play again for a few days.

Ohhhh! See, I was just backstabbing them, not POWER backstabbing them.
D'oh.
Though I still don't have a high enough sneak to attack from the front.
