Foods What We Have Made And Eaten
I thought I'd see if I could start a thread on Making Food for Eating Of. Because why not.
My contribution to start things off...
Food What I Have Made - Bakspaghlasrataotpot.
This food what I have made is a combination of tasty European staples. Not actual metal staples which would taste funny, and require a trip to hospital, but staple foods what the people of Europe eat.
The Bakspaghlasrataotpot is a layer of Baked Spaghetti, a layer of Lasagne, a layer of Ratatouille and topped of with a layer of grilled Potato Slices and Cheese. This is what it looked like after I ate half of it.
On eating it was actually rather good, but induced carb coma due to the combination of two types of pasta, root vegetables and potatoes. The left overs were still pretty good the next day. I would make this again, and it is not at all as disgusting as it may sound.

Re: Foods What We Have Made And Eaten
I made this once. I have no idea how it turned out so tasty yet horrible looking, but I want to make it again. It contained:
I chopped russet potato
1/2 chopped white onion
1 can diced tomato
1 tblspn truffle oil to fry in (this was a gift from my brother that I alway struggle to use)
1 can mushrooms
1 steam-in-bag bag of peas
1 tblspn-ish of thai chilli sause
2 tblspn of black bean sause
some corn flour for thickening
maybe a can of red beans... I can't remember
It turned out chili-looking and the best thing I've ever made for myself but it's proved rare and illusive in my attempts to remake it.

I am excited by this thread because my sister's boyfriend gave me a pirate cupcake making kit for Christmas.

It's a Corellian dish served on birthdays. It's a chocolate brownie with walnuts and rum. That was the description in the Star Wars Encyclopaedia, no instructions. I made it, took it to school and the people in my year really liked it.

I'll bet they did.
This evening I have made, 1 batch of my normal sausage rolls (Sage & Onion stuffing), 1 batch of "Christmas" sausage rolls (Orange, Cranberry & Chestnut stuffing), and a batch of misshapen mince pies.
Can you guess who got told he's hosting Christmas dinner?

Re: Foods What We Have Made And Eaten
This wont sound good, but it is awesome!
take 10oz cream cheese and 13 oz marshmallow fluff. (this is a standard bar and the larger jar)
Put in blender, or mixing bowl and blend/mix with hand mixer until fully integrated and smooth.
Dip any 'solid' fruit into mix. Apples, strawberrys, pears...
This exact conversation has happened EVERY time we take this to a gathering.
Anyone who hasn't tried this before: "What is that?"
Anyone who has tried it: "its good just dip the (fruit) and eat it"
Person who just tried it for the first time:"Why does it taste so good?"
Me: "its 50% fat and 50% sugar whats not to like?"

For a less trailer-trash version, mascarpone, whipping cream, and a touch of icing sugar and vanilla is delightful.

Spicy lamb meatballs in satay sauce. Was served over hokkein noodles. I made it for Desert Bus, so I'd have quick microwavable eats.

I've made nananimo bars and a clam udon pasta with alfredo sauce. I just like to throw stuff together and see what works

Holy crap... minus the meatballs that looks just like my weird chili thing I was never able to remake. A new image for my culinary longing nightmares!
/also, sounds tasty

That sounds a lot like the fruit pizza I make sometimes!
What you do is, you make one big sugar cookie, about the size of a pizza crust. You top that with a mixture of cool whip and cream cheese, and then decorate the top with fruit bits.
If you do it right, and get a pleasing design and mixture of colors, it looks SUPER nice and fancy, and it tastes heavenly. EVERYONE I describe it to says it sounds nasty, but then they try it and OH LOOK, suddenly they can't stop shoving it into their faces!

Re: Foods What We Have Made And Eaten
This kind of seems to be shaping to be a, "no really, it's great" food thread. So...
So... despite being a foodie geek, I desperately love baked beans. Especially baked beans, reheated, on toast. But if I'm feeling fancy...
Fry up some bacon, throw away *most* of the grease. Chop bacon.
Add beans and heat through.
Fry some eggs.
Toast bread.
Put bacon back in with the beans.
Then...
Layer beans on toasted, buttered bread. Add stuff. Grated cheddar, salt, and pepper. Sliced tomato. Avocado. Fried eggs. Add more strips of bacon, even.
It's... kind of gross and messy. But delicious.

Re: Foods What We Have Made And Eaten
For some odd reason, the only baked beans I've ever really liked have been the ones that KFC used to sell. Is that weird?
But yeah, that sounds delicious.
Here's another odd concoction I brewed up a while back. I call it the Tacoloaf.
Make yourself a meatloaf, but season it with taco seasoning and stuff it with your favorite taco fixins'. Onion, cheese, peppers, refried beans... Try not to use anything like lettuce or tomatoes, though. They may not hold up well in the baking process. Oh, and top it with taco sauce.
It is quite tasty!

Re: Foods What We Have Made And Eaten
I'm going to understand "taco sauce" to mean "sour cream".

I am not angry at you.
Re: Foods What We Have Made And Eaten
Taco sauce as in red or green hot-sauces. The sour cream goes on later, when the loaf is served.
Re: Foods What We Have Made And Eaten
I once made a Dave Lister worthy curry once.
Mince, rice and every spice in the cupboard. It took me an afternoon to eat, with lots of bread and water.

Re: Foods What We Have Made And Eaten
My favourite curry is quite hot, and also vegetarian, but I've made it for quite a few people and it's always been a success.
It consists of a great many spices that I don't recall at this point, but suddenly I feel in a mood to dust off that recipe and give it another try.

Some people fill their crepes with cream cheese, others, perhaps some savory meats. I use baked beans because fuck all y'all, baked beans are tasty.

Re: Foods What We Have Made And Eaten
I was always under the impression that taco sauce was "We wanted to put salsa in this package but that's difficult and expensive so here's salsa without anything solid in it". It never quite tasted like hot sauce, just terrible salsa.
