Who You Gonna Call? - Comic!

Postby The Jester » 14 Feb 2012, 15:31

Ladies and Gentlemen, you need wait no longer. The comic I have been talking about and promising for months is finally here.

This is how it will work.

Code: Select all

I will put commands and prompts in code, like this.

I will take suggestions for what should happen next from everyone. I will then choose which one I like the most/will lead to the most interesting outcome.

Just because something is suggested multiple times does not mean it will happen.

However, provided a suggestion does not interfere with the (very vague, nebulously defined) direction I think things should head, I will try to show the results of all suggestions.

I will try to keep the comic going like a game, and that means giving you (and the characters) in-game goals and missions. Whether you fight crime and stop the villains, or go and peacefully farm cabbages, is ultimately up to you.

I know what I'd prefer, but hey... I'm just the GM. ;)

You can access the Main Menu at any time, and doing so pauses the game (this may change, depending on how ungainly it turns out being to do).

Let's get started then, shall we?

Ok guys, some of these I can do easily, some will take a while to figure out.

JackSlack, I would love to spend a number of "in-game" panels inventing superhero law, but unfortunately it would rather break the flow of the comic. I will come back to it, though.

Psychopez... that's a little too vague. Plus... it's what they're doing anyway. Unless you mean that they should get their own skulls? :?

Nah, just if the crystal skull was lying right there the whole time, you know, right there, no, just a little to the left, ah, yes, there it is, you got it! You never know. :) It might not even be there where they're at, in fact, it probably isn't. But it doesn't hurt to look.

I was half imagining the Wizard stopping to simply note, "Actually, if we don't get proper registration we're basically criminals, and furthermore..." Thus leading them to spend valuable time thinking up a team name and file proper paperwork.

Having posted suggestions for their next actions I realise I completely forgot to post actual feedback.

I think this is really cool. A nice simple way of reusing panels and a good framing device for the story as well.

Oh good, I'm glad you don't mind me obviously re-using character art. ;^^

Actually, I need to think of a way for commands like "Go to Starbucks" to interface with the comic. I only realised after I'd chosen this method of telling the story with the characters that it doesn't really allow for the observer to be inside one particular character's head, like in the MSPA comics.

While I would love to spend all day, every day, making new art for this, I think realistically I'm going to update every few days.
I need to come up with ways to respond to commands, and then make the responses. Check back in over the weekend, guys. I can't promise anything before then. Sorry.

I've also decided from now on, all my suggestions will be in the form of adventure game commands.

Which also highlights our first mistake. The first command of any adventure game is...

Code: Select all

Inventory

I think.... to make all of this simpler, I'm going to have you "playing", as in MSPA, as only one character at a time. You can switch to another character, check their inventory, and suggest courses of action to them like internal voices, and perhaps you'll be able to issue some commands to all members of the team at once. Commands like "Attack!".

Sorry guys, this is a learning process for me.
I'm also wondering about playing with the art style...
