Kony 2012

Postby Deedles » 06 Mar 2012, 19:32

Go watch this video, it'll be worth every minute of your time.

http://youtu.be/Y4MnpzG5Sqc

Spread it around, anywhere and everywhere.

Edit 2: Matt made a summary - It is a documentary piece about Joseph Kony, and the war crimes he is committing against children in Uganda. It carries an important social justice message.

Edit: This is the information in the poster's comment on Youtube, for anyone too lazy too read it there.

KONY 2012 is a film and campaign by Invisible Children that aims to make Joseph Kony famous, not to celebrate him, but to raise support for his arrest and set a precedent for international justice.

I watched it last night before I went to bed, wake up the next day and it's all over facebook, escapist, and now LLR, damn I must have not been paying enough attention.

that was a look of disapproval smiley.

Also, hi. You should probably watch the video. Just saying.

It is a documentary piece about Joseph Kony, and the war crimes he is committing against children in Uganda. It carries an important social justice message. This is why I looked disapprovingly.

edit: actually, more accurately, it is a piece about an upcoming campaign to spur major action by western powers to bring Kony to justice, by the people who previously did such a documentary (Invisible Children).

Well why couldn't Deedles just say that? Or the description in the link. Or why the first two minutes of that video are all about facebook and why old people don't like it. Frankly I fail to see what it has to do with Ugandan war crimes or why I can't just read a one minute article on such instead of wasting half an hour when I have Melvins to listen to.

Not to be a dick, but I kinda agree with Seasons B. I am hesitant to give over 30 minutes of my life to someone who says something along the lines of "go watch this now!". Without any description of what it is I probably won't even give your link the time of day... (fear of Matt/rickroll anyone?)

Also I think it's kind of silly to say someone is too lazy to read a description on a link you posted when you're too lazy to give a description in your own thread. Just saying. Matt did it easy enough and it was easy enough for you to copy pasta that description. Without a description that could potentially lead into a discussion about the video - there is no point making it's very own thread. You could just post it in the video thread. See what I'm saying?

It's probably a very moving video, and I'll probably watch it tomorrow when I am home from work since it's posted everywhere.

But for now I counter all disapproving looks with my very own look of disapproval. <|>.<|>

Rocket, marry me and have my ugly babies.

This is the same shenanigans they pulled with Loose Change and that Fahrenheit nonsense.

I'm afraid she's taken.

I will say, I clicked it because I know Deedles wouldn't do this over something unimportant, but yeah, descriptions can be useful.

According to my last birthday thread, I have 15 boyfriends. Or maybe someone lied. Either way, I'm not sure there's room for another ^^;

there probably should have been a description in the original post, this deserves it's own thread, you all should probably watch the video, because the topic is one worth raising awareness of.

We get it, dood.

I'll probably watch it later. It just bugs me when people expect my time without spitting out the facts. Its like being told to watch a documentary without knowing the subject.

Yes, I know. I just - there's a level of entitlement inherent in rejecting something immediately without spending even half a moment trying to figure it out for yourself. Ten seconds on google could have told you what this was and who it was about.

So retorting with a "well, no" because someone didn't lay everything out for you in a neat little package just rubbed me the wrong way.

It probably also didn't help that I knew what it was about, so your post literally came off to me as "a few minutes of my time are WAY more important than children being murdered in Uganda"

I'm going to exit the thread now.

That's the whole problem of the documentary.

"Kony" has no meaning to you.

I thought it was about someone making a MLP release of linux in a KDE environment, but that's because I live on these forums and spent a lot of time today reading about the difference between Gnome, KDE, and Unity.

AND THAT IS THE TOPIC OF THE VIDEO.

EDIT: for clarity, the topic of this video is that you don't know the topic of this video (recursion), not the differences between linux UIs.
I can put my hands in my head, and I can laugh it in the face.

How am I supposed to know its about Ugandan kids if nobody says so? It could have easily been the next Loose Change. I got two minutes into the video and all it talked about was Facebook. I can't fucking stand Facebook and how my computer accepts Facebook as a word. I should be seeing red lines.

True I could of written a description, but seeing as I posted it right after seeing it for the first time myself, right after waking up and crying my eyes out, I simply couldn't, and still can't, find the words to summarize.

I'm not good at it, and I never have been, especially with things that get me very emotional, I just don't know how to chop it down to get the message across quickly and shortly. Most of all I never feel like I give whatever I've summarized justice.

This is why I always just tell people to go to the source, because I'm simply not good at telling people the short version of it.

So, I told him honestly, that I couldn't think of a summary, because I honest to God couldn't think of a summary, the fact that Matt could doesn't change that fact.

Speaking of which, thank you, Matt. =]

Loose Change is an 'infamous' web documentary with 'proof' that '9/11' was an 'inside' job. Full of phail and spiders.

@Deedles: The people who made the video didn't summarise either. Rule one of documentaries is get the subject out within the first minute.

But the fact that you could and did quote the description from somewhere else, does.

Anyways, I think by now we all know what the video is about, and that you should always post a description with a video link if you're starting a new thread for it.

So let us continue on.
