Looks ugly on my desktop.
I am against the mobilification of the desktop.
Also good on ya Matt for running again. I do not think I will catch you now.

Heh, I didn't actually stop running, I just never got around to tracking last week's workout until last night. :p

Re: Fitocracy: LoadingReadyRunners
I went for a run around the Tidal Basin during the 100th anniversary of the Cherry Blossom festival. I stopped and stretched at the Jefferson Memorial. This isn't even my country and there was something very beautiful and powerful just being able to look out onto the water and see the pink blossoms with the memorials all facing eachother. It was pretty amazing. If anyone here is in the DC area I highly suggest it even when the blossoms are gone.

So, what does everyone listen to while they workout? It's a mixture of hardcore and rap that gets me through the day. If I've got 20 minutes on the treadmill though, it's nothing but 2112.

Podcasts.
Also this new app totally doesn't work for me. Or, at least, it's non-intuitive.

See, I used to be able to listen to the LRRCast while doing my hour or so on the elliptical. But I find that when I'm running I need something to get me pumped up, not to make me giggle.

Re: Fitocracy: LoadingReadyRunners
I listen to dance sets made by a friend of mine: http://www.earvelvet.com/
They usually have a good consistent beat and the rewinds feature a lot of different types of music.

I've been listening to the above sets from aeric's friend too... though I'm starting to learn the sets too well, which makes it harder to lose track of how much time has passed while I'm doing cardio ("Oh crap, I'm only at the Depeche Mode? Aaaaaa...")
Re: Fitocracy: LoadingReadyRunners
Tried to plan out a run route for monday morning that would let me run heartbreak hill. Only possible route is like 30K.
I'm not running that the morning after a convention.
Sads.

Okay, I'll start tracking and stop dragging down the average level of the group.
Also, I've learned to not trust the mileage on my pedometer when I'm using a treadmill. It's fine when I'm running outdoors, though (I have checked my route mileage with Google Maps).

Oh, so it's not just me then? I thought my computer was doing something stupid.
I like the old design much better.

Re: Fitocracy: LoadingReadyRunners
I'm about to get back to France, and I would like to stay active. However, I will be living in a 10 square metre (97 square feet) apartment, and most of it is taken by the kitchen and bathroom. What I mean is, there isn't a way for me to easily work out. The only place that's long enough to fit my body (for push-up, for instance) is the couch/bed (only in bed form. Too narrow as a couch). It's not an ideal surface, not the same texture all the way: the top third of the bed it the bottom of the couch so it doesn't have a mattress equivalent. The rest is like a mattress, it's the part that folds up for people to sit on when it's a couch.
Is it still possible to use for working out, or would you recommend I find another place? And except for walking and running, what kind of exercise would you recommend that can be done outside without any equipment other than every day stuff? I'd rather exercise outside as much as possible.
I'll be living on little, so gym membership isn't an option. I'll also have limited storage, so I'd rather not buy equipment if I can avoid it. Any suggestion is welcome
EDIT: I'm a bit disappointed. I thought if I kept track, I could go log in stuff for the whole month once a month or something.
Turns out they don't really let you do that, so I could only record about a week's worth. I'll have to keep that in mind as it's unlikely I'll remember to log stuff that often if I don't make myself think of it.
As a result I lost a few of my big days (walk-wise). I only recorded what I thought to be significant walks (basically at least one mile) and put them all in one session even though it was over the day. Although my pedometer keeps track hour-per-hour so I could go back and divide it into more representative chunks to do several sessions. But since you seem to get more points that way it seems kind of like cheating, so I probably won't do that.
I might go back on my rest day and enter previous days' exercise to make up for the inability to record more exercise in a row. Since I personally would be fine not having it tracks days at all, ever, it should be fine. I don't really care when I did what, just that I did it.

Re: Fitocracy: LoadingReadyRunners
Just a quick reminder, and I know I am guilty of this on occasion too. Don't fall into the trap of the high rep myth. (The other myths on the list are traps too but I see this one far to often).
http://exercise.about.com/od/exerciseworkouts/ss/strengthmyths_2.htm
Basically if you are doing a ton of reps you are making no gains other than making yourself tired and working to exhaustion (rather than maxing out) can lead to injury.
Remember to work smarter.

Good link. I recommend checking out Starting Strength if you're looking for a good low-rep/high-weight routine.

Re: Fitocracy: LoadingReadyRunners
Is it weird if I hit a wall with that? Last time I could do ten reps of 65 lb dumbbell bench press, but not even one at 70 lbs. What up?

Nope that happens all the time. Usually it means you need to switch up your press or whatever lift/press you are working on. Try doing floor presses, they work most of the same muscles as a bench press, but they hit the support muscles way more. Often your floor press weight will be higher than your bench press and will get you comfortable working at the higher weight as well as helping to build the support structure you will need to make that next step in your bench.
Doing rows helps a lot too. Bent over, or standing they help build the muscles used when your bracing and lowering the weight down to your chest. You may be perfectly capable of putting the 70 up, but your body is worried about the down game so it stops you. Work on those support muscles so your body quits its bitching and lets you do what you know it can.

I try to switch up my presses with rows. I'll look at the floor press. Thanks.
