aeric90... in England.

Postby aeric90 » 30 Apr 2012, 10:08

I am so excited because on May 26th I will be landing in the UK on my first trip outside of North America, or even Canada and the US! I will be in London from May 26th to May 31st before taking the train up to Manchester for a big huge rugby tournament.

So I need ideas on stuff to do! I know I want to do The Museum cause I want to see the Rosetta Stone et all. Also I hear there is a rather large convention in town. Maybe we can meet up with some Runners?

I'd recommend the National History Museum and the Science Museum.
Don't worry about me and the bag, I work during those days so I am afraid I can't haunt you.

I'm hoping to be at the comic-con on the Saturday so yep :D

Other stuff to do, um, walk along the Thames, ride the DLR, London Eye, Duck tour.

The London Dungeon is quite good and tells a potted, gruesome and somewhat abridged history of the city. I'd also reccomend seeing the London Eye, Soho, Camden markets and Parliament Square.

When in Manchester, see if you can get to Liverpool for the day and go to the museum, St. George's hall, the Albert Dock and it's museums.

Likely won't be doing much sight seeing in Manchester if the last tourney I went to was any indication. We'll be at the rugby club from 9:00 AM till at least 4:00 PM for all three days, back in time for dinner and then the events planned by the organizers which will probably be going to a sponsor bar in the gay village.

Awesome, I intend to be in London for that weekend for the Comic Con, so maybe we could have a LRR Meetup somewhere.

Well, Manchester has a great gay scene (never been there, though). It's meant to be good for shopping, if you get a spare hour or so.

I recommend the North, it's where all the cool stuff happened.

Oh, and if anyone mentions seeing whales, don't listen to them, definitely do not follow them. It is not large ocean creatures, instead it is a small patch land full of sheep and very lonely men.

In New Zealand the wildlife can be split into 3 categories: The odd, the endangered and the sheep.

In Australia there are 4: The odd, the endangered, the poisonous and the sheep.

In Wales you only have the sheep.

The daffodil is not endangered. It's a weed.

I'm in London on the Saturday only for the Expo thing. But yeah, really you want to go to the North. Purely because it has neither London nor Birmingham.

LIES!

Wales contains nothing more than rain and damp, sexually abused sheep. Everybody knows that.

I don't know how much time you have up north but if you get the chance try and get out into the Yorkshire Dales.

Once you get away from the industrial spaces Lancershire and Yorkshire are amazingly, hauntingly beautiful<s.p?>. York is a fantastic medevil walled city as well, if you want to by a sword/woden crossbow/suit of armor then that's the place for you.

Having climbed up the Great Orme I can confirm it is not a photoshop.

Also compared to New Zealand, Wales did not feel like it had that many sheep.

Wales does have a lot of proper castles.

In London besides the British Museum I recommend the National Gallery and the Imperial War Museum. Westminster Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral and the Tower of London are all worth a look as is the Tate Modern. The World Rugby Museum is at Twickenham Stadium, the home of English rugby, near London.

For getting around London get an Oyster card.

Oyster card is awesome.
Also don't be shocked at how much the Tube costs. It's expensive for traveling along a few stops. It's good value for good journies.

If you want to go up one station, you're better off walking.

London Eye is epic, especially when it rains. You get to see some epic weather.

However, I heard there's a hosepipe ban and stamp shortage or something. So be careful. The English always over-react. OMFG IT'S SNOW. WE R GONNA DIE.

The landscape around Yorkshire is epic.
I hate Manchester. Nothing against the people, just the whole Industrial wasteland around it and the Metropolis Architecture.
