I thought it was going to just have stuff like pencils and stickers, so I was actually pleasantly surprised. The benefits of low expectations, I suppose.

Anyways, I was playing a RG aggro-ish deck with a horrendous curve and no rares (I did have one mythic, so I guess I can't really complain), but I still ended up with 3 wins, 2 losses, and a bye.

Hey guys, help me out. What are some cheap to cast red or black cards with bloodthirst? I'm trying to build a deck, and the stupid internet keeps freaking out when I go to the Gatherer.

According to gatherer there are all of the bloodthirst creatures for less than 4CMC:
1R: Bogarden Lancer
----1/1, flanking, bloodthirst 1
1R:Stormblood Berserker
----1/1, bloodthirst 2, can only be blocked by two or more creatures
1B: Duskhunter Bat
----1/1, flying, bloodthirst 1
2R: Blood Ogre
----2/2, first strike, bloodthirst 1
2R: Bloodscale Prowler
----3/1, bloodthirst 1
2B: Bloodrage Vampire
----3/1, bloodthirst 1
After that it ramps up pretty quickly, with two 4 mana, a 5, a 6 and a 7.

At the pre-release today, everytime I played or attacked with Vorstclaw, I kept just thinking of the "Who are those vikings?" thing from Feed Dump and just kept going "Vorst vorst vorst"

Also, several people may now know about LRR due to them asking about my steps& t-shirt.

LRR certainly didn't get me in to Magic, but they did indirectly influence my performance at yesterday's pre-release. A bunch of the crew were talking about the Avacyn Restored set preview on the Limited Resources Podcast. I listened to that (all 5 hours of it) and I'm certain that it made me a much better deck-builder.

So thanks to LRR for the introduction to a very useful show!

So, now that I have the interbutts back.

Went to the midnight pre-release for the Hellvault, came fourth out of 28 people. Won 6 prize boosters ontop of my 6 from the entry. Went to the next pre-release at 6pm that day, made four prize boosters. Went to the third one on sunday at 1pm and won 6 prize boosters.

Pulled an Avacyn and a Bruna, traded the Bruna. Basically spent $135 on entry fee's, and won the same ammount of boosters as a $180 box costs, and got 3 promo spears.

There's supposedly a new interface coming out soon, so that may improve the situation. However, you do get used to it eventually, you just sometimes need to be careful about reading what's going on before you select stuff.

couple of q's around mtgo.

playing free trial a lot of twats quit when i start winning. does the full game have any kind of report/punishment system for these tossers.

I hear there is a planeswalker mode that just uses the decks from the psn/xbla game. is this true and is it a good place for a newb

1. No. There is no formal report/punishment system. There is however standings, which are considered as they modify your MTGO ranking.

2. Yes and maybe. There are preconstructed decks that are useable in Duels(which you can also get a free demo on Steam). It does offer pop up information on abilities and card types, and how things work. The rules are kept the same, which is easy to translate, but without the variety of cards the game can be seen as somewhat simpler.

When you buy a account you get a pack of Planeswalker cards, its 300 none tradeable cards from various sets. They can only be played in planeswalker and are untradeable but you can make any of the "trial version" decks out of it, and you can do some limited deck building.

You also get two event tickets (enough for one draft if you buy 3 boosters) 1 M12 booster and a random bunch of playable tradeable commons and uncommons.

Today I found why taking the 7 drop in game of Momir comes with a little over 1 in 100 chance of instantly losing the game. So who can tell me why?

I attended the prerelease, and ended up with a terrible pool that turned into a blue-white "Play creatures and hope they don't play better creatures" deck, which went about as well as you'd expect (lost every game). I'm good enough at Magic that I'm fairly certain I didn't miss a good deck, it was just an awful pool.

Anyway, it was my first Sealed event, and it's kind of put me off the whole Sealed thing. I realize that I had some uncommonly bad luck, but even the possibility of a repeat of that train-wreck gives me pause, so I thought I'd ask here: Just how often do you get the terrible pool?

I'm a firm believer that a good player can make any sealed pool work at least reasonably well. It won't guarantee victory but it should get you a fun day at the pre-release at least.

That said though, my sealed deck-building skills seem to be pretty terrible, so maybe I'm a poor data point :P

According to the Pro who watched me play on Sunday and then told me how terrible my deck was. A good 40 card deck in this format should have 16-18 dudes, bear minimum 8 should be 3 drop or less.

Also Vexing Devil isnt a creature even though the card says it is, its a 4 life burn spell.

And if you have a abundant growth and a Borderland Ranger, and you run two colors you are a "(Blank blank blank) those are just free splashes. 1 island, or hell NO islands and you could have run wingcrafter or this restoration angel(pause) you got a restoration angel and its not in your deck? I cant help you"

I'm reminded of Alex in episode 2 of Friday Nights when he berates Paul for having "Plains in a blue/black deck".

So here's the aforementioned terrible pool I got, and the deck I made out of it.

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/avr-sealed-107/

I'm sure there are some minor tweaks that can be made, but overall, did I make the best of an awful pool, or was there a better colour combination to go with?

Oh man I forgot I had one AWESOME turn.

Druids Familiar(5/5), Bonded with Trusted Force mage(5/5) on the table, Swing ("Ill eat it") Joint assault +2/+2 each. Then he killed me but still. hearing "umm ok I was not expecting 14 in one swing"

Well, for 10 dollars, you can get Duels of the Planeswalkers for PC or XBox. It's a vs. AI MtG game that's great for learning how to play. After that, I'd recommend Friday Night Magic drafting. That's only like 15 dollars a week for a guaranteed 3 packs and an evening of playing.

I already have DotP. And I meant in terms of actually getting cards to begin with. While I might have some lying around somewhere, I don't have any more recent then a good 8 years ago. Plus the problems with Friday Night Magic Drafting deal with the fact I live a good ways away from town. Gas money would take me an extra $10 a week at best, and it'd be a 45-50 minute drive. Plus, as I mentioned, I don't really have any cards to start with.

Starter decks are the way I started. I convinced my friends to join me. Since they are only like 12$ each it wasn't much of a lose if they didn't get into it.
