I fail to see the .5% Ellen.
I can't think of a signature.

AT LEAST 99.5% less Ellen DeGeneres. I didn't want to say 100% in case some slipped in while we weren't looking.

Does Uwe Boll know he won two lifetime achievement awards? and I think the snake guy says "fucking snake get off my dick!" not "fuck snake get off my dick!"

In the 'constructive criticism' category, I have to say that this week's video was sub par. There were some definitely funny parts (the ending was great, and I enjoyed the alliteration award), but all in all, it didn't really work for me. It went a little too fast, and a lot of the jokes - like the Uwe Boll and Edward James Olmos ones - were really predictable. And while there's nothing wrong with that, they weren't funny predictable, I think. There are jokes that you guys do over and over again that we love (the "...in England" joke springs to mind), but those ones just didn't do it for me.

I hope my criticisms have been constructive enough... : )

Were you guys planning on doing this before I suggested it?

Also, I thought that it was a good video, and the CGI set was very impressive. Though I do agree that some of the jokes weren't all that funny to me. Then again, I really didn't see too many movies this past year, so the comedy was lost on me.

By the way, it's snowing here and I am kinda pissed off.

That introduction, was flipping amazing  ! If it weren't for the Commodore 64 theme, I'd suggest you use that gold on black intro to every future sketch.

And I agree with 3mm4, the Boll and Olmos jokes were a bit too predictable, I'd say add it to the memo but that's also on the memo.

Holy crap guys! That was awesome. Loved the intro and background. I want a LRRie now. That would be enshrined on my shelf for all to see.

And I loved how, I think it was tak197 making another LRR Awards just as you were about to apparently show it.

And I looooooved the intro (I totally want one of those LRRies now... but that would require being in/making a movie. Dammit x3)

Mmm... not really.

I disliked this weeks, mainly because it seemed too rushed. Slow it down! Not the gags, mind you, but the transitions. Went too quickly from gag to setup to gag to setup to etc. Better lighting perhaps for the green screen bits, the fancy background outdid the actors here. I also had audio troubles with the clips- it seemed choppy. Maybe that's just my computer, but still.

That's exactly how I felt about it, but I couldn't really pinpoint it.

And man, now I totally want to download Tristam Shandy and watch it again!

We shot it a couple weeks ago actually, good call though tak197!

This was all shot on a shoestring green screen in our living room, and I spent probably around 12 hours doing the CG and compositing, so I'm pretty happy with how that all turned out, if only for the work it took.

I see what you mean about some of the "predictible" jokes, but... well come on... Olmos!

We really wanted to improve the video over last year's in two ways:
1) Visual Interest
2) Better pacing/set up for the jokes

I think we definitely improved 1, and rather than just "joke, next" we did the award-show-style preamble for several movies, which I feel improved 2. In retrospect, I do feel a few of the jokes could have been better. But, I'm still happy with the outcome.

Edit: Hope this doesn't seem super-defensive, I'm just engaging in the criticism.

The CGI work was spectacular. The comedy itself was good - not incredibly great, but respectable, good work. Bits of it were perhaps somewhat too predictable to fully utilize the "violation of expectations" form of humor, but it was a solid effort.

Overall, I'd give it a B++.

Quite a few of the jokes consisted entirely of the name of the category and the short clip - I'd expected more witty banter.

I agree with Melendwyr. It was still funny and I thoroughly enjoyed the video; in particular I liked the part about the fog in Silent Hill. But yeah, more banter would have been nice and the sound in two of the movie clips was kinda choppy.
I'm a very boring person.

Sweet Graphics!

Postby Metox » 16 Mar 2007, 19:38

Very nice and professional graphics with this video.
Please make sure you mention the process, and shenanigans that ensued, during the creation of said graphics in the Lrrcast.

P.S. for the Lrrcast, how many of you have ever played City of Heros/Villians?
