Re: Menswear
Went thrifting with the wife today. Turned down a Canali dress shirt (!) and two Brooks Brothers, plus a pile of other shirts and pants. Did manage to snag a plain navy polo that fits pretty darn well, though, which I've been looking for.

Re: Menswear
I found one of these (charcoal, made of felt) at a garage sale for a dollar today. My instinct is that it's not something that I'll actually be able to use for any sort of formal occasion, particularly since it's a bit too small to come all the way down on my head without being tilted back, but it was well worth it just for the novelty value of owning a classy (?) and expensive hat.

Paul Grangaard, the CEO of Allen Edmonds (High quality US-made shoes), is doing an AMA on reddit right now. Highly recommended.

Re: Menswear
Quadruple post? Quadruple post.
Here's the suit I found today;
And a better shot of the fabric, navy wool flannel;
Local maker;
And, the fabric?
And, what could be better than... wait...
Oh yeah... $15.

Re: Menswear
I stopped by the thrift store today, and managed to find a nice gray tweed herringbone jacket. Yet another reason to look forward to the fall.

Re: Menswear
If you live in the US, are interested in #menswear, and are trying to find a good place to buy affordable basics, you need to know that Uniqlo announced it is opening an e-commerce site this fall.

Re: Menswear
Bump
I have another job interview Thursday and my old "dress" shoes are falling apart (very cheap imitation leather anyway) I bought new shoes.
These are real leather and seem a lot sturdier than my old ones.
My question now is: How should I lace them?
I normally use the standard criss-cross
However, some people seem to suggest the straight bar lacing
Also, since we've discussed this, but haven't had any pictures: this is basting thread holding a pocket closed on a new suit(yeah, turns out I missed the breast pocket somehow)

Re: Menswear
Dress shoes, generally straight-bar lacing, but with open-laced derbies like that, I'd use criss-cross, since the quarters are so very apart, the messiness that's underneath the straight bar lacing will be showing.
