Gaming General Chat Thread

Postby Metcarfre » 05 Sep 2012, 12:48

Might as well, eh? A spot for minor questions, musings, etc.

So chatting with Graham at PAX, this new Metal Gear Solid: Grund Zeroes sounds really amazing. I've always been a little bit interested in the MGS series, but hadn't been able to play them because I never had a Playstation and, somewhat related, the Playstation controller has always confused and enraged me.

But now I hear it's coming out on the 360. I've wanted to try MGS and have considered getting the MGS HD Collection, which would work well since the new MGS apparently leads off immediately following Peacewalker.

Is there a version of MGS (the original) I can play on the Xbox? Anybody play the HD collection - worth it?

Finally started Borderlands for PC. Enjoying it a lot despite the cardinal sin of unskippable intro logos.

But why is Rinoa from FF8 telling me what to do?

I know there's a thread for it, but I really just want to say again: The Walking Dead by Telltale is currently my Game of the Year, no question.

Because subconsciously you know that FF8 is the best FF game ever and Rinoa is one of the hottest ladies ever to grace a video games console.

...gonna try REAL hard to keep my Tifa-biasness in check...

...anyway, I played Borderlands for quite a while on the PC, but I haven't gotten past a certain mission just as I get the vehicle to move onto the next town. It just got WAY too hard for me to do. I don't know when this game's learning curve turned into a concrete version of the Great Wall obstacle from Sasuke, but I stopped playing soon after that.

Now, I'm thinking of starting up Bioshock. Any thoughts?

Super Hexagon is probably going to be GOTY 2012. It's iOS only for now; apparently PC and Mac (probably Steam) version coming at some point.

It has an incredible degree of One More Turn and it's very possibly the hardest game I've ever experienced.

Hold on, really? I can understand preferring the 360 controller but what's confusing about the DualShock design?

As long as you don't know too much about the story and can experience it for yourself, I do recommend that.

Also a flash version here!
Ridiculously difficult but infuriatingly addictive. I'm just glad I've got good enough reflexes to have achieved hexagon level with a time of 74 seconds, else it would've driven me insane!

I know a LITTLE about the story, but I can easily block it from my mind. I've seen my girlfriend play it, but I can easily experience it on my own without spoilers.

"Confused and enraged" is a euphemism. I always found the various iterations of the PS controllers too be much, much too small for my hands - I often couldn't press a single button without inadvertently pressing others. Especially coming from the N64 controller, it was just a joke.

Thanks to this thread, I am now playing Super Hexagon. I have only just reached level triangle, so this could go on for a while.

I just re-started Bayonetta today, choosing it over Crackdown and Devil May Cry 4. Only ever got halfway through the first stage before the monotony of combat set in and I gave up - that, and the "Fly Me To The Moon" song in the beginning pissed me off. This time, though, I had a lot more fun, and took the first stage to it's completion. Tomorrow, Stage 2.

I've barely played anything but Crusader Kings 2 recently. I'm currently playing through a campaign with the Byzantine Komnenos dynasty. I started in 1081, with only the the empire's European lands, apart from the counties of Abydos and Trapezous/Khaldia in Asia.

It's now ~1390. Anatolia, the Caucasus, and Sicily have been reclaimed. I also controlled Hungary very briefly.

I'm playing Tekken Tag Tournament 2. I dunno if anyone here plays fighting games, but I figured I'd say it anyway.

I wish I was good at fighting games.

I find I'd rather replay old games than start new ones - as I have a baaaaaaaad habit of not finishing games because then that means they will be over =( Thus I find I play up until almost the end, and then I stop and do it again. I'm driving myself insane as I have started and stopped OOT mnultiple times since it's release!

Join the Steam side... seeing your list of games growing exponentially while only ever playing half a dozen is a normal effect...

Which is exactly the reason why I don't use Steam for hardcore gaming (even though I am still affected by this. Fricken Humble Bundles).

I know. I've played, maybe, three games on my Steam so far, and I have over a dozen so far. Just waiting for my wallet to fatten up for the holiday sales.

I have a few Steam games and literally no computer that could conceivably play them. It's... just nice to know they're there.

I can't finish Kingdoms of Amular. Anyone else who invested time in this game in the same boat? I just don't care if the evil elves win.
