I went with the voucher.
On the upside, I now live in a town that has things, things that sell whatsits! And doo-dads!
Honestly, the $10 thing is more of a guideline, but if it makes you feel better (and if you have the money), just go for US$10 and convert. I admit, my gift last year for my Santee was more than $10, but that was because I had a master plan.
Master Gunner was my Santee last year and he said (jokingly, I think) that he wanted to be an evil mastermind/Bond villain, but that he also was getting into the more dapper clothing bracket. So what did I do?
Wrapped in a nice scarf and wearing a new bow tie, I gave him HIS REQUISITE EVIL PET.
It didn't cost me too much money, and I figured that the creativity behind the idea made it perfect. So if you can do it inexpensively but make it really creative, your Santee will be pleased.
(And if all else fails, get something related to your country and send it. The first year, my Santa was in Canada, so he sent me the Vancouver Olympic Canada mittens, and a bunch of Canadian candy. I still have those mittens and they are so warm.)
