Doo-dads? WHAT MADNESS IS THIS!?
.

but the bard argued, "A large selection of gifts!"
but kapol wouldn't have this, not until everyone was sad
"No thingzors or thangzors, no whatsits or derpits!
roo-rads, clangors, or fingtas in here!"
He thought for hours til he had a plan and finally jump up and shouted, "it's rad!"

Hmm.. Dr. Suess meets LRR forums.. That could be fun.

I think this is my new favorite post ever.

the_lone_bard wrote:Yes, it is short for McDonald's.

And I was just remembering a reddit thread that said a large spicy chicken (Or something like that, never heard of it here.) value meal was just shy of $4

And all I could think of after reading that was "...A large cheeseburger meal is like, $8.50 in a town where the average rent on a 3bedroom 2 bathroom house is $450 a week!"
McChicken Meal for $4 sounds like a 2004 price, at least in the Baltimore area.

That rent sounds pretty comparable to current Baltimore ret, though.

To clarify, where I'm currently living, only half an hour down the road, still in bumfuck nowhere as far as city life is concerned, it;s $700 a week for a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom house.

the_lone_bard wrote:I felt horrible last year, since after almost two months of searching, the best I could come up with was half a tiny lego set, or thinkgeek gift vouchers.

I went with the voucher.

On the upside, I now live in a town that has things, things that sell whatsits! And doo-dads!

Honestly, the $10 thing is more of a guideline, but if it makes you feel better (and if you have the money), just go for US$10 and convert. I admit, my gift last year for my Santee was more than $10, but that was because I had a master plan.

Master Gunner was my Santee last year and he said (jokingly, I think) that he wanted to be an evil mastermind/Bond villain, but that he also was getting into the more dapper clothing bracket. So what did I do?

Wrapped in a nice scarf and wearing a new bow tie, I gave him HIS REQUISITE EVIL PET.

It didn't cost me too much money, and I figured that the creativity behind the idea made it perfect. So if you can do it inexpensively but make it really creative, your Santee will be pleased.

(And if all else fails, get something related to your country and send it. The first year, my Santa was in Canada, so he sent me the Vancouver Olympic Canada mittens, and a bunch of Canadian candy. I still have those mittens and they are so warm.)

Well, technically, the McChicken is on the Dollar Menu, so you could get by with $3 for a "meal", but as for actual value meals, that sounds about right. Now they are like $6.50 or so.

I'm glad they held up!

I still have all my SS gifts - I need to get a PC so I can install and play all the Star Wars classic games my first SS sent me. The multitool has gotten me out of a few jams, though - mostly beer-cap related.

My fall back plan last year was "Find something to do with fosters and koalas and kangaroos."

Then my SS lived like, 6 hours away from me in canberra. Was all like "DAMNIT! now I can't just go for the tacky route!"

GingerSchnapps: CONFIRMED

I'm a brand spanking new highschool English teacher (my very first year!) and a confirmed nerd. I have a great love for BBC television, particularly Doctor Who and Sherlock. Other loves include video games of all stripes (oh Bioware), Shakespeare, and sarcasm. I'm also the founding member of a burlesque company, if that helps.

Just buy them an XXXL and send them a copy of Tally's modding instructions.

Not me though. There are several international treaties banning me from sewing. Apparently it's safer for mankind that way...
