Desert Bus – IRC Chat for Dummies (Is it DB6 already?)
Re: Desert Bus – IRC Chat for Dummies (UPDATED for DB5!)
mIRC is dumb and wants me to pay, and pidgin is a struggle. Can anyone tell me how to use pidgin to get into the chat this year or recommend another free windows client please?

Re: Desert Bus – IRC Chat for Dummies (UPDATED for DB5!)
mIRC merely tricks you into thinking you have to buy a sub. If you wait through the second alert popup telling you you need to have a license, it'll let you proceed.
Re: Desert Bus – IRC Chat for Dummies (Is it DB6 already?)
The Jester is correct about mIRC and I get tricked by it, too. Just click through, then wait a few seconds and click through again. No need to register anything for mIRC.

Oh my, I just saw that they did one of my chalenges and I didn't see it. Anyone know where I can see it, or failing that, what all of their middle names were? (my challenege was for everyone in the room to say their middle name)

Talk to one of the Engineering Crew. They'll have time indexes for each completed challenge. Once they have that, they can find it on YouTube.

That would have happened at 7:43 into Desert Bus. Unfortunately, I missed including that in the highlights reel. However, a full copy of Desert Bus should go up not long after the run, in torrent form and possibly on youtube as well.

We should all start Desert Bus themed Drawception games for the public in hope subtle awareness is created. Failing that, awareness for future Dessert Brules.

Someone please do! I'm tired of having to keep dl mIRC every time it expires and wants me to pay. This time I try and it won't even let me past registration cause it can still tell I've been using it too long.

Re: Desert Bus – IRC Chat for Dummies (Is it DB6 already?)
I used to be able to click through that second notice about it expiring too. Now it just says [EXIT] on the second button where [continue] was. Reinstalling didn't change it...
Re: Desert Bus – IRC Chat for Dummies (Is it DB6 already?)
What, exactly, are you looking for? Just need to get connected to the desertbus IRC server with a new client?

Re: Desert Bus – IRC Chat for Dummies (Is it DB6 already?)
I need a tutorial that's client specific, preferably one that doesn't expire or require maintenance. I was trying Xchat ...or I guess it would be Ychat for windows I see now...but all the fields in there for the server/channel info are different. I have no clue what's supposed to go where.

Re: Desert Bus – IRC Chat for Dummies (Is it DB6 already?)
Here's the X-Chat I was looking at. http://www.silverex.org/download/
You worked in tech support, so you know the drill - download it, follow the instructions.
After installation, opening up the client should bring up a screen that looks like this. You can just port over all your info you used in mIRC to here. You were LuckieDuckie@<whatever>.<domain>, I believe? LuckieDuckie would go in your username slot.
We hit +Add, name it whatever (Desert Bus, in this case, since we're doing that), and hit Edit... That brings up a screen that looks like this.
We change the 'newserver/6667' line to 'irc.desertbus.org/6667', and tick off 'use global user information' if it isn't already.
That should be enough to get you connected to the server. I don't know enough to be able to help you personalize it. Once you're in chat, perhaps someone who knows X-Chat better than I do can help you out.
EDIT: After trying this out and connecting myself, if gave me some errors about not finding a ruby*.dll and python*.dll, but it started fine for me. I think it has something to do with whether you installed the program with administrator rights or not. It didn't affect anything.
If you're still having trouble, Hexchat is a branch of X-Chat (that is also free), so all these instructions work (word for word) for that as well.
Hope this helped!

Chat crashed for me about 5-6 hours ago (at time of post) and has been down since, I assumed it was my connection but if you're unable to join as well then it may be the server.

Re: Desert Bus – IRC Chat for Dummies (Is it DB6 already?)
For mIRC users I would suggest not using mIRC, there are a ton of better IRC programs that are less annoying, like pchat and IceChat and FF's chatzilla.

As I say everywhere, mIRC is the Internet Explorer of IRC.

Pretty much all IE needs now is an annoying reminder to pay for something that can be found for free and they are an exact match.
