While we all obviously love it, Desert Bus is certainly not for everyone, and that's ok. We've found ourselves that it's hard to explain to people. A lot of times it seems to be one of those things people just need to see/experience for themselves, and then they'll decide whether or not it's something they enjoy and want to take part in.

After three years of trying to get people I know IRL to pay attention to Desert Bus, I finally did get one person hooked this year. She's a crafter too, so there may be more doubleknit scarves (possibly one like http://www.ravelry.com/projects/theallim0/dna-dk-scarf if I can convince her it's worth it to replicate in Desert Bus colors) in DB7's future!

Yeah. I thought that might happen, which is why I didn't use actual numbers, but went by paychecks, which is more relatable in terms of how much of a percentage of what you have. If you have $1,000 and donate $10, or if you have $1,000,000 and donate $10,000, it's taking about the same amount out of you.
Two of the items I won are public in what I spent on them, so people know I spent at least that much.

I'm not going to attempt the "25 words or less" thing, but the short version of what I say to people is "You know what a telethon is? Well, it's an Internet telethon. But, because it's done by a comedy group, you can donate for them to do funny stuff, like sing a song, dance, wear certain hats, talk like a pirate for 10 minutes, or whatever. Also, they auction off some really cool and incredibly rare stuff."

Just curious if people are starting to receive their prizes and such? I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of a Mario pocketwatch.

I got one of mine (3D MtG Cards) a day or 2 after DB finished, but the rest haven't arrived yet. The posters got sent out sometime last week I believe.

I got mine pretty quickly (two within a week of DB ending even), but I don't thin there's much cause for concern about packages being lots or whatever yet, as apparently they haven't all been shipped yet... this is from earlier today on the LRRMtG stream... all of those are DB boxes that are yet to be shipped.

I know they have a lot of stuff to send out but wow, I didnt think it was that much stuff, and a lot of the stuff was sent out DURING desert bus. I got my first box the monday after db and the last of my stuff a week later.

I'm still waiting for all the stuff I won: the Len Peralta pack, the entire set of WorldWake in Chinese, and the Tron painting. I'm suspecting the painting is what's holding it all up. I've already gotten my DB6 poster.

I'm wondering if that's the painting on the right-hand side of the picture.

I'm also wondering what happened to the efficient system they had last year, where people got their items before Desert Bus ended. (I got my buttons like a week after the end last year.) Did anyone get their prizes before it ended this year?

Information that hopefully will be helpful:

We had nearly 30% more stuff this year than last year, and we had a LOT of stuff last year. Because of the way we structured some things this year, it also took longer for our shippers to get the information they needed to get many of the items sent. Which is totally our fault, not theirs, and we'll be trying to fix that up for next year.

Smaller items to most places were shipped via air mail, but all larger items and some of the smaller items going to Europe were sent via surface mail, which can take quite a bit longer. Shortly after Desert Bus we also hit the real Christmas season mail-wise, when the volume of post going through the system means everything tends to take longer than usual.

Many items were shipped during Desert Bus, many items were shipped right after, and a still great number were shipped over the course of the past 3 weeks. Following Desert Bus, our shippers (and most of us) had to return to their day jobs and could only work on this on their days off. We also had to hold off shipping some of the items that were too large and heavy to fit on our scale till we could make other arrangements for weighing those.

A Canada Post pickup was, I believe, scheduled for this week to get most of the remaining items out. There are still a few things to ship and Ashley and I are hoping to deal with all of those on the 31st.

Basically it is a huge job, we did some things that (unintentionally) complicated it more for our shippers this year, and we're doing everything we can to get it all dealt with. We apologize for the wait - we know it's frustrating and that you all want to have your stuff as soon as possible. But we're super grateful for your patience and understanding, and as usual we will learn from this year and try to smooth things out more for next year.

That's to be expected.

Like I said, I suspected my painting was the hold-up for my shipment. :D

Perhaps we're just spoiled from last year, and I was spoiled from seeing that Hosk got the Sonic costume already.

I didn't mean to criticize. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't lost in the aether of Canadian and U.S. Post. I'm likewise surprised this year had 30% more stuff than previous year.

Desert Bus is so big now that a full-time employee wouldn't be enough to make a good-sized dent in its upkeep. Keep fighting the good fight!

I was hopeful that my stuff would arrive before Christmas, based on reports from last year and some early reports from this year, but that didn't happen. Oh well, no big deal. I was smart and didn't completely rely on DB for any Christmas gifts. Part of what I got is part of a Christmas present for someone, but I had the other part of the gift already so it was salvageable.

In other words, don't worry about it. No rush. I'll be patient.
