*hugs Wraith*
And we thank you for sharing them with us.
And we thank you for sharing them with us.
I got a fan letter from a young lady. It was a suicide note.
So I called her, and I said, "Hey, this is Jimmy Doohan. Scotty, from Star Trek."
I said, "I’m doing a convention in Indianapolis. I wanna see you there."
I saw her — boy, I’m telling you, I couldn’t believe what I saw. It was definitely suicide. Somebody had to help her, somehow. And obviously she wasn’t going to the right people.
I said to her, "I’m doing a convention two weeks from now in St. Louis." And two weeks from then, in somewhere else, you know? She also came to New York - she was able to afford to got to these places. That went on for two or three years, maybe eighteen times. And all I did was talk positive things to her.
And then all of the sudden — nothing. I didn’t hear anything. I had no idea what had happened to her because I never really saved her address.
Eight years later, I get a letter saying, "I do want to thank you so much for what you did for me..."
"...because I just got my Master’s degree in electronic engineering."
That’s...to me, the best thing I’ve ever done in my life.

Similar sentiment to Billy Connolly's "Never trust people who've only got one book."
Crossposting between here and Win.

Yeah, I'd forgotten about this option, but it's true: someday I wanna have a job I love to do and look forward to as much as that man does for his...

I gave the head chef of my college a candy I made, and I think he offered me a job because they were so good.

Re: The thread of hope.
I'm sure there's no one who would object to such a wonderful thread being contributed to, and it being returned to our attention right now.
But "" and "" are your friends; putting them before and after long-ass links makes them actually functional for other people.
...it's kinda sad tho because I really wanna see what the article is talking about, especially after seeing the 'headline' of what the truncated link fragment takes you to at the moment...

Bit of a stretch, but...
This is the only proper response; I may have to watch that movie just for this one scene.
And then, there's something that's NOT A STRETCH AT ALL for this thread.

Okay, this might be a little iffy depending on the topicality and controversy, but I'll say this:
Damned if it didn't make a grumpy ol' cynical agnostic like me...get dust in my eyes.

Yeah, I heard about a few kids that wrote letters to Santa saying that they wanted Santa to take some of their toys to the kids from Sandy Hook in Heaven so that they can have a Merry Christmas.

Children like those will grow up to be great people as long as society does not trample the fire in their hearts.
