I think it'd actually be interesting if someone made a deck around those "opponent pays mana to cancel effect" cards, since if you got enough of them onto the field then they'd either have to spend a lot of mana every turn or suffer some of the less harsh consequences. No idea if it would be good but I think it'd be interesting.

Also: Any tips for someone who wants to get just enough into magic to play some games with friends? My plan is to just build one deck and maybe build on it as time goes on, but I don't think I'll ever amass a library of cards. I'm thinking of going for a red deck with mostly dragon creatures and a variety of offensive burning spells. I got Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 last Christmas and I'm playing that to get some experience so I can get an idea of how I should make the deck and generally how to play the game. Does this sound like a good plan?

The deck wins playing spells by alternative casting costs, and doubling their efficiency with increasing vengeance/fire servant/blistercoil weird (w/dual casting). Alternatively, using Chandra's Spitfire (especially with staggershock) to get added efficiency out of each burn spell.

Not ALL the Izzet are young and hot now, but some. Unlike before, where they were all weird, old men.

Wait... I think I've figured out why most of the Izzet are young and attractive. And the answer is Inspiration. The experiment the flavor text hints at was refined to reverse the aging on many of the members of the Izzet. Only the mose die-hard beard lovers chose not to undergo the process. If there are more women now... well... I guess maybe it had side effects?

I mean, if you're an organization of old white men, clearly women and minorities aren't allowed in your club. A side-effect of reversing the aging process was that their new hip young friends convinced them to be more progressive.

That's more Simic if they're doing it on purpose. It's more Izzet if it's just an... unexpected result. *puts on sunglasses*
