This one killed me. I just love Cam's subtle annoyed facial expressions. Great stuff, gang.

I gotta say, Cam and Beej really pull the whole "Silent and Menacing" thing well. A nice episode all around. 8/10.

Re: Junk in the Trunk
I can tell. Whenever Graham says "Oh man, I'm so excited about this video that I'm editing" on Twitter, the next day I have to update my personal Best of LRR list.
I understand that doing the entire drive all in one shot was simply practical (and I'm sure I can see the camera on the inside of the car after you cut to the wide shot ), but it felt different somehow, like you were being extra-creative with your concept (is that the right word?) this week. You've done one-shot videos before of course, but nearly all of those were in the same room, and it was really neat seeing the streets go by like that. Did you plan the trip in advance, so that you knew what roads you'd be passing and when?
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I can't wait for the Loading Time for this. I love the idea that you guys said "Okay, we'd like this kidnapped guy to have a one-way conversation with his kidnappers... let's do it all in one shot!" Very neat concept. The stinger was the best one in a very long time. I'm rambling.
I LOVED IT.
What'cha gonna do with all that junk, all that junk, inside that trunk?
Imma go go go drown that punk...

Funny story, what I tweeted about was not actually this video
But I do love it.

Whaaaat? That means there's already ANOTHER video in the works that's going to be particularly awesome?
There's just no downside!

Re: Junk in the Trunk
I'm impressed. Was the entire driving sequence shot in one take? That had to be a lot of careful timing with the driving to make sure everything lined up with Paul's talking (which I'm guessing was pre-recorded and not him actually in the trunk) while still getting to where Cam and Beej pulled over to punch him a few more times.
Not to mention hoping against all odds that traffic never ruined a take, of course.

Paul probably recorded the dialog afterwards, watching the video, to get the timing right.

You mean Paul wasn't really in the trunk? The magic of film is spoiled to me now!

Loved this video. The expressions on Cam and Beej's faces were perfect! Paul's character should return in the future as the guy in the trunk. Great work guys, especially Paul on the writing

So, clearly you guys didn't let the car go into the water, but how terrified was the person who was in there to stop it?

For a brief moment, while the car rolled gently to the sea, I thought to myself "man LRR has had a serious budget increase."

GREAT video; brilliant silent performances by Beej & Cam, great...monologue? by Paul, and LOL-worthy stinger.
...also, you had me worried about that car by how far you let the shot go!

Re: Junk in the Trunk
The two long shots of silence (at the start and after they beat him up) are what made this for me. All that build up for a one-sided conversation is actually really funny.
I also think it's good that Cam and Beej stayed completely straight throughout. It leaves me wondering how they'd react when they hear that he escaped, especially considering Paul told them he could get his hands free and Cam told Beej to ignore it.

Or just open with them bailing out the car. You could probably do it pretty convincingly with some well placed buckets.

Re: Junk in the Trunk
I spent the first half of the video trying to guess what kind of car it was. Nice quality synthetic leather seats = European. Fold-down rear seat headrests plus wood trim on the inside of the doors = probably Mercedes. Squarish shaped seats = early 1990s. When the car reached the water and we got to see the outside, I smiled.

Graham on the Escapist wrote:Listen again, there's actually constant sound... it was all recorded live in the car
So, let me see if I have my production notes straight:
1) Video is largely one shot.
2) Beej and Cam do all their reactions in one take
3) They know when to do that because Paul is actually under the blanket in the back seat, holding a microphone and recording all his dialogue.
4) Beej and Cam were hitting something percussive so that Paul knew when to say "Ow! Oof" etc.
Is that about right?
And did you plan the trip, or was Beej just driving around random roads?

Re: Junk in the Trunk
Wow... a nice, long continuos shot with all physical acting, probably the most risky car thing I've seen you guys do and perfect stinger with a great commitment by Paul that reminded me greatly of him steadfastly walking into the sea. Very nicely done.
He habitually wears an expression as if he had determined to drive his head through a brick wall, and was about to do it (Description of U.S. Grant)
