Re: LRR Minecraft Server

Postby AdmiralMemo » 28 Feb 2013, 12:37

Alright... I'm back, for the most part. Sorry guys for the delay.

Dutch Guy is right. This is not really a "community server" unless people want to pitch in and contribute to keeping it going. It's my server, which I opened up to the community after you guys had your server meltdown. I had my own personal meltdown when my generosity was met with betrayal.

After the insurrection, I locked everyone out and went around with a plan of trashing everything by the culprits. However, before I really did anything with that plan, I realized that destroying the impressive feats you'd done would be like destroying the Kremlin. Yeah, I might not like the politics of Russia or maybe other stuff they do, but it's still an architectural marvel, worthy of respect. Therefore, I did not do my plan of blowing up everything Kool, Jostain, or Owl did. I did do some things for punishment, which you'll find out if and when you log back in, but they're inconveniences at best.

However, while I was mostly done, before I could completely finish, the Christmas season happened, and everything went really hectic and I didn't have time to complete my plan. Then, after the Christmas season died down, and I was about to get back to finishing my plan again. However, on January 25, 2013, my parents' house burned down, and that set things into chaos again. They're staying with me now, and it's been a very stressful time. We're starting to get stuff back in order, despite AllState being as slow as a sloth on this.

In any case, I feel I've gotten back enough time to restart adminning this again. I've re-enabled the whitelist, so you'll have to start over, re-applying for permission to the server. Consider this a bit of a clean slate, but if you've made any structures in the overworld, they stay.

Make your requests to be whitelisted via PM.

I'm going to muck about in the config file later today, then start making more explicitly-defined rules in the starting area, and then after that's settled, start whitelisting people I've cleared.

The community ip from the first page is not working. Is there a new one or something?

Follow up Question: (will arrive when I find the correct clip so I don't misquote)

Actual Follow up Question: Where can I find a server I can actually use?

The server went down completely a fair while ago, I'm afraid.

OK, got a little backed up with work, but the server is open for business again. White-list enabled. Already had one person ask for white-listing, which was granted. Banlist deleted, new rules in spawn. Starting somewhat fresh.

game.admiralmemo.com is the server, and you're welcome to ask for white-listing again.

More people coming back to the server. This is good.

Adminning a server is hard, especially when you don't know the game. Sorry I was such a fail before.

I'm glad to see people returning. I've made a decision, and that is that any projects that are done for the community (rather than personal structures or other projects) will be "sponsored" by me. What that means is that, if they're approved (not difficult if you can explain their purpose), I'll spawn you the needed supplies for building it.

We've already got a community tree farm, bank, and supply room, and we've got a dock and some other stuff shaping up.

We've got a market going in, too. One of the features will be a "Trade XP for items" system, but I've got to work out the redstone on that, as well as what's a fair system for working out the XP/item ratio.

Now, if anyone wants to turn this into a real LRR community server, rather than a personal one, the running cost must be factored in. The server costs $15.18 a month to run, but that's running both a Half Life server and a MineCraft server, so let's cut that in half to $7.58 a month. If any of y'all want to pitch in to help run this, I'll be grateful, and I'll see what perks I can get you.

More people whitelisted. Welcome! :)

I'm going to rename MineCraft, but I can't decide between "Getting Completely Lost: The Game" or "Where the BUS did all these ravines come from?: The Game"

:D

Allright so I am back online and there is so much to do.
1 Spawn city. It is almost done all the remains is finishing the rodeways, lighting up the area, train station, docks, and placeing signs for lot type and avalibility.
2. is there any building type you would like to see in spawn city?
3. Can I take controll of then End gate seeing as it right beside my mian build area and the people who had it befor are responsible for how the server has turned out? I will keep it closed and make sure no one goes in it.

To be extra sure, blocking it off with a layer off bedrock would make it pretty much inaccessible ;)

I want to organize an End-scouting party at some point, and try to get the most people online to do it. I want at least a month of preparation to make sure everyone knows and we can find the best time for everyone.

However, now that I know how to get the server's seed and therefore put it into the generator and re-generate a new version of this same world, I can see the StrongHold in its original form. This is what really pissed me off the first time, since I thought it was impossible to re-create my world, since I didn't put a planned seed in. And since it was "impossible" to re-create it, in my mind at that time, I was pissed that in my first time in MineCraft, things that were irreplaceable were already wrecked before I ever got a chance to see them. And the key point is that y'all should've realized that since, guess what, I just got MineCraft. There is so much I didn't, and still don't, know about MineCraft, stuff that you guys take for granted, having played it for so long. If y'all had told me how to get the server seed, I probably wouldn't have gotten all psycho back in December.

I've added an automated charcoal making machine to the Cobble Works. All you need to input is wood logs, and the machine makes charcoal for you, using the charcoal it already made in the output, cycling it back to the fuel to make more charcoal. 64 logs makes 55 charcoal in 10 minutes 30 seconds.

It's quite compact, and if you want to make one yourself, I can show you how, if you can't figure it out just by looking at it. The raw resources you need are 5 logs, 10 iron ore, 18 cobble, and 8 redstone.

Also, I'll be re-doing the spawn's redstone relatively soon and will need to reboot the server after that. Just a heads-up.

Well, the Trans-Oceanic Railroad is up and running! :)
It goes from the desert by Spawn City to Xaphod's train station in the winter mountain area.

Server updated to 1.5.1
Spawn Pack of items changed to 1-Use Only, and a bed was added.
First market thing: Trade 1 level of XP for 1 stack of rails.
(Added to in encourage rail-building.) Level 5 minimum to trade.
Placement could probably use work, and I need to refine the commands a bit, but it's functional. :)
I want to work with everyone in hashing out good market items to give, and good conversion rates. (Can be number of levels, or straight amount of XP.)
With this addition, I'm considering turning the "Keep Items and Levels on Death" option back off.

Also, what do you guys think of a scheduled weekly race or obstacle course with a prize for the winner?

I'm not really in favor of turning the "keep items on death" back off. Mostly out of selfish "I'm working around lava or at great heights" reasons :P

Well, as I said, it is merely a consideration. If left on, conversion rates for XP to items will need to be adjusted higher to account for that, as it'll be easier to gain levels, because there is no other outlet for losing them other than enchanting.

Nope, unfortunately. I'd thought of that, but the setting in the config file is just keepInventory = true/false
When I first set it up, I was assuming it was just items, but after my first death (on purpose to test it), I found it kept levels, too.

I'd like to welcome BruceRytel, and welcome back empath. :)
