Just for giggles - because I can't leave anything alone, apparently...

(You don't have to do this. But it would be an interesting test.)

Go to Start -> Control Panel
Go to Network Connections.
Go to "Local Area Connection," and right-click on it.
Go to "Properties."
In the window that appears, scroll to the bottom of the list of protocols and things. At the bottom is "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)." Click on it, then press the "Properties" button.
In the window that appears, leave "Obtain an IP address automatically" button alone. Click the button that says "Use the following DNS servers."
Your DNS server fields will unlock themselves. Enter:

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Into the top and bottom fields, respectively.

These DNS servers are open-access and belong to the OpenDNS project. They are working right now, and I'm using them at the moment.

What this will do is get you away from forwarding DNS requests to Shaw's servers, and go to a set of known working ones. If you continue to have problems, then it's time to re-examine your rig...[/i]

I seem to be getting the same sort of issues as before, on the new DNS servers, with slightly more access to the interwebs.

So you have access to AIM and MSN, but limited access to the Internet?

Does google.ca resolve for you? That is, if you put google.ca into your address bar, do you get Google Canada?

Can you give me a couple of examples of web sites that aren't working for you?

Hotmail works 50% of the time
WoW doesn't work at all
Shortpacked and Joyceandwalky.com don't work
Google.ca(the address) works perfectly.
Pennyarcade, samandfuzzy don't work.
Gamefaqs.com doesn't work*sobs*
MIRC works 75% of the time

For a while, I couldn't load images on ANY page, but that seems to have been semi-resolved.

Perhaps this...

Control Panel/Network Connections/Local Area Connection/Properties/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)/Properties (as before)
Click on Advanced and you have more DNS settings that might help
Does anyone knows specifically if any of these settings will help?

Other than that, can you run a few more traceroutes for websites that do work and websites that don't? Perhaps try using both the IP and the domain name.
Loading Ready Run is 205.234.134.164

Also, can you find your IP (the public IP, so not 192.168.x.x) so we can test that with traceroute etc.?

might me win-sock

i have a nice little cd that has a fix for it on it, but its late and you can try to find it yourself

google win-sock fix

although that doesnt make sense with both computers doing it

get a friend with a laptop to come over and plug in. if they have problems too then it is your isp. if you have cable inet it could be that there is a db short somwhere and your router isnt getting the correct signal strength it is supposed to. or the isp's modem could be going out.
plug straight into the isp's modem
go to start / run type in "cmd"
in the command prompt that opens type in "ipconfig"
then type "ping XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX -T" where xxxxxx is the ip of your default gateway.
this will just keep pinging it untill you press cntrl+c if they all go through with no problem do the same ping -t thing with like google.
if the pringing the gateway has a bunch that time out then its the isp's modem dying

and i am 2 hours late for bed so i might read this in the morning, scratch my head and delete it, but i think it might work

The issue seems, at least temporarily, to have resolved itself.

Yesterday afternoon and night we had absolutely NO connectivity. We couldn't do anything.

I think I'll keep the Shaw tech coming on Thursday, since my roommate and I are starting to believe it's the modem.

I can't use Xbox live, either. QQ. =(
