He's being progressive. He doesn't wear the pants in the relationship.

A mix of both is generally rather effective, but of course it depends on the target.

I've discovered that when introducing yourself you should: smile, tell them your name, then tell them they look nice or pretty or whatever basic and straight forward complement, then ask them their name.

I have the most trouble with the straight forward part.
Simple and genuine. Don't try and be "impressive" or "gimmicky" usually walking up and saying "hello" is pretty gutsy and most women will respect that.

The bedroom or the nearest available form of cover?

Not at all. I never try and quicksave before an encounter with a female.

Mainly because I always go Ironman. But that's a different story.

Right, this one is a bit of a story.

Today I had a bit of a laundry list of things to do, including attending a practical, getting some blank CDs to burn to, and filling out an extension form for a bumbled module. That last one is where things get interesting, because the tutor I needed to sign the form was somewhat awol and hard to get hold of.

As a result, I was sat in the reception of the building for a while waiting for him, about an hour or so. Everyone that walked through the rather loud door was potentially him, so I noted the passing of each.

And then someone interesting arrived. Her appearance was unusual because I couldn't get a fix on gender immediately, uncommon for people I encounter on the campus (literally, I walked past a huge crowd of uniformed cheerleaders right after this), but I noted her female-ness when she had to speak to the reception desk. We both had to wait for people, so she took a seat next to me.

After a while wondering what to do, including thoughts that I might not be entirely unreceptive to the notion of her sitting on the other side of the room (purely due to personal space issues of mine, nothing specific to her), I decided to strike up a conversation.

Her name is Becky, she's studying animation under one of my graduate friends, and I'll meet up with her tomorrow when she checks out Anicom. I'm not sure it would be defined as a date, but she seems very interesting and I'll delight in getting to know her better.

Look at me, being all confident and socially proactive :P

There is however that crippling moment of self-loathing when you realise "I didn't give her any way to contact me..." so hopefully she actually does appear at Anicom as planned.
