State of the Server Address

Well, things are continuing to shape up on the server. We've got rail lines running just about everywhere inhabited now, except for a few places. (Namely: The Nether exit, which I'll fix up soon.) I also need to reinforce certain areas due to repeated creeper damage.

I've installed in-floor night-activated lighting in 2 of the train stations.
I've got a somewhat inaccurate automatic weather control to keep it dry most of the time. It's controlled by a villager and a daylight sensor. Since it's inaccurate, there will be less weather, but still some weather.
Problems:
Sometimes, he randomly goes in the house during the day without rain. If it starts raining while he's in the house, he'll stay in there, and it won't turn off.
If rain starts at night, he won't turn it off.
I've updated the spawn a little bit to turn the beacon into a fountain. Also, since rails are in place everywhere, I've removed all other teleports except to Spawn City.
I've added a jail that's floating above the spawn box. Any ne'er-do-wells will be put there until they learn their lesson.
I'm still planning on turning that zombie spawner under Spawn City into an auto-farm, but am still postulating a design, as my old design doesn't work in updated MineCraft.
I need to recode the market command blocks because while I was alone on the server, a pig activated it and I got rails for a level when I wasn't even in the market

Regarding the works of others, muihtils has something interesting going on. Not sure what, but it's worth a look.
Xaphod's above-ground stuff has been mostly stable for a while, but he's been working on a giant underground arena near one of the strongholds.
Kool's working underneath his mansion, doing large excavation.
Ike's tower is becoming ridiculously huge. I like it! :D
Smeghead's building a massive oriental temple, which looks awesome.
Havok's got his tri-biome thing going. He's got a tree that goes up to building limit, and is docking an airship onto it.

I don't know if Minion or Jostain is coming back, and there's an uncompleted pentagon near Minion's place that I don't know who's building. Also, SixFootTurkey: You still around? Your little hut looks cool.

Read the logs.

Ike: Glad you like my rails. :)
There should be a button to get into the arboretum around the rail station, unless someone removed the one I added.
I'm going to re-name your train station to the official name.

Kool: Yeah. Go to the Market. It's next to the bank and next to the train station. It's made out of glass and Nether fence. Still need to install more things in it and re-code the boxes so things like pigs don't set it off.

Ike and Kool: The train already IS two-way, for the most part. I fixed that up. The return trip doesn't hit all the stops and it goes a different route. Major intersections (where both tracks come together) are at Xaphod's Train Station, Spawn City, and the Community Farm. Minor intersections (where the tracks don't come together but the stations are close to each other) are at Kool's Mansion and Smeghead's Oriental Castle. Return trip bypasses Havok's place (parallel 2-way track already installed there), Minion's Mine (he doesn't seem to play anymore), and Ike's WORSE (he said he doesn't care for the above-ground train system much).

All: You mentioned storms. Is the Weather Control Villager not doing his job, or are they coming at night?

I upgraded some rail tunnels to stone bricks to make them more resistant to creepers. I have a plan for getting the Nether exit hooked up by rail. I should be able to cut through the jungle, into the swamp, stop by BruceRytel's place, then head straight down through the forest to the Community Farm.

Also got some ideas for rails in the Nether to connect the various Nether gates.

I do not understand the principle of the Weather Control Villager.

During the day, the villager exits his house. This is true even while it is raining.

The light level drops when it rains and when it is night, this is discerned by a light sensor.

If the villager is outside of his house and it is dark, then combining the two allows you to know that it is raining.

...so, it's not as much about weather CONTROL, as weather DETECTION? (unless there's some steps not being mentioned ;) )

When it's detected that it is raining, you can trigger a command block to clear the rain.

It's also possible to have a radio system for players to trigger the same kind of circuit remotely based on their inventory, but that's a bit more complicated :P

Yeah. It's still inaccurate, but better than nothing with the ridonkulous amount of rain that tends to appear on this server for some reason.

A friend of mine did a video explaining how you can scan the inventories of everyone on the server for a specific item and trigger redstone based on it either being picked up or dropped. The item itself could be anything, ideally something unusual like golden boots (rainboots?), so people could grab their rainboots and the system would automatically turn off the weather.

Looks interesting, but complex. Not that I'm averse to complex, but I'm assuming it will only work for a set number of people.

Nope, it'll scan every player on the server. It does so by using the scoreboard and shifting players around in different teams, so that it can check the nearest player outside of a certain team (obsidian_List in the video). If that player doesn't meet the proper criteria, they are added to the list so that they are excluded from the next check.

Hey Memo, would it be possible to get re-added to the whitelist. I've been hankering for some Minecraft in last couple of weeks, but all the new communities I visit at the moment are a bit... nyeh.

Would be nice to hang out with the old LRRCraft folks again, and see what you've all been up to.

Osprey: I see you're working with MasterfulChaos about 35 miles away from everything else. :D Good work so far, though. :)

Also, I figured out what happened with the missing villager. Apparently, zombies could still reach him and kill him through the fence when he was outside. I saw it happen in front of me. I've therefore doubled the height of the fence to prevent this.

MASTERFULCHAOS!!!

Was trying for about an hour today to remember who it was I was helping with their project before the whitelist ages back, thanks for the reminder. I left signs with my stuff (I know who I am so that wasn't much help), but there wasn't anything there I could turn to for ID for whose stuff I was working on. Quite embarrassing really.

I have my own project idea formulating now, but I'll wait to see what MC's doing with this build, and how long he needs my assistance...

Edit:

That's unfortunate about the villager, good thinking with the alterations though.

MineCraft folder got corrupted when trying to create an automatic backup today. Luckily, I did a manual backup just previously, so everything should be back in place now. If any of your recent edits are missing, or perhaps entire chunks got reset to default, let me know.

My mc name is also red_mist. It's too bad about the jostain thing. It's been over a year since I last talked to him, or any of the mc crew for that matter. I realize that things probably have changed, some good and some not so good. You shouldn't have any problems from me, last go I feel I got along fine with everyone... Well hope to see you on!

After just browsing the thread looking for the cost per month of this server (you should find out why soon enough Memo  ) I also ran into a post from Master Gunner about putting up an MotD and you responding that you didn't know how. See: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Server.properties and look for the MotD bit.
