I object! The opening shows Bears, but these cards are anything but. And a Hippogryph has a horse body- that's what "Hippo" means in Greek. A Hippodrome is a Horse racing arena.

That was a lot of fun trivia, almost like a mini Magic-themed episode of QI. I'm not sure who's Alan Davies in this context though.

Karoos didn't actually accelerate your mana, if you play a karoo on turn 3 you still have 4 mana on turn 4. What karoos actually did was provide card advantage, in that you got more mana out of less lands, in addition to color fixing.

You did miss one single card creature type! Dreadnought of Phyrexian Dreadnought!

I believe there might be another that was missed, but I'm not sure.

I think you missed a potential use for Carom in that you can take out an additional X/1 creature assuming you'll stop the thing that's blocking your creature or one you're blocking with.

EDIT: And I missed one as well and possibly the intended use for it. Blocking damage from your creature and giving it back to something else. That seems better.

I also like this kind of trivia so I felt compelled to compile a complete list of all current valid creature types that appear on 0, 1 and 2 creature cards. I searched through the list of all current valid creature types in rule 205.3m for these.

0 Creature Cards: (These types only appear on tokens, man-lands or other rules text)

1 Card:

2 Cards:
Camel, Eye, Flagbearer (pre-spellskite spellskites), Gremlin, Hippo, Hyena, Octopus, Phelddagrif, Rigger, Satyr, and Squirrel (though there are a lot of Squirrel producers).

So we only REALLY missed Dreadnought, Lammasu (the hell?!), Pest, and Spawn?
Not bad.

For the record, I wasn't counting cards that generate or turn into things, like Assembly-Worker.

Crazy about those 2 Card ones though. Eye? Forgot all about eye.

Tally making the tokens is super cute, but the doll came out of Kathleen's twisted mind... I feel like Kathleen needs to generate Creepy Doll tokens en masse.

I'll just throw out that Nameless Race is the only creature with no creature type.

(Also, it's pronounced CARE-um)

Kathleen was correct their are only two octopus Giant Octopus and Lorthos, the Tidemaker.

As far as fun costs of activated abilities a favorite one is Wirewood Symbiot with the ability "Return an Elf you control to its owner's hand: Untap target creature. Activate this ability only once each turn." This means you can bounce an elf back to your hand in response to removal without your opponent getting to respond. It also did silly things with Timberwatch elf and Wellwisher from the same block and countless other elves with powerful tap abilities.

The difference between Hippogriff and Griffins depends on who you ask, but in this case it appears that Hippogriffs are Raven/Lions, where Griffins are Eagle/Lions. Basically, black griffins.

One of my favorite creature type things is Uncle Istvan, while he's been Oracled into just being a human, originally his type was "Uncle Istvan" which is especially fun because he's not a legend. So you can have a whole set of Uncle Istvan on the board, should you desire -_^

Naw man, Razor Hippogriff clearly has a big ol horse booty. :D

My favorite non-standard creature type is Kobold. Now, there are 7 of them, so that's more than 1 or 2, BUT all of them are from Legends and 3 of them are mechanically identical to one another. Also, Kobold Drill Sergeant's artwork is incredible.

There are also only 7 Gnomes, and all but one of them is an artifact. The one that isnt? Quarum Trench Gnomes. It's from Legends. And it has one of the best pieces of ambiguous rules text in the game: "Use Counters"

Non-Oracle early sets have some of the best creature types.
Summon Eater
Summon Rock Sled
Summon Smith
Summon Niall Silvain (not a legend)
Summon Sisters AND Summon Brothers
Summon Bureaucrats
Summon Carriage
and of course, as stated above, Summon Uncle Istvan

Dude, WTF. Also, "Use counters" isn't present in the Oracle rules text.

That might get a little confusing considered there is already a card in MTG called "Creepy Doll"

They beat us to it

I completely forgot about that. Nice Catch.

Well getting around the name would be tricky, but I figure older tokens were the exact same as some old cards (Kobolds of Kher Keep, Cat Warriors) so the name itself shouldn't be an issue but the Kathleen effect is thrown off a bit.

This should fix it.

I have another cool piece of creature type trivia:

There is actually at least one card that got a large functionality change when it's creature type was changed (and it was in fact made significantly more powerful). Can anyone guess?

It is Daru Stinger. It has Amplify which has the hidden rules text of gaining counters for each creature that shares a type with it. When the Stinger gained the creature type Human it was boosted significantly in power. Nice to know for anyone making a human deck.

Also: They could have reworded Camel as "Prevent all damage dealt to this by cards named Desert", but that would have been less cool.
"if it ain't shiny, rub it on your hiney"
