Crowdsource Your Life and Report

Postby JackSlack » 06 Jun 2013, 18:11

Can't make up your mind? Screw it. Get the hivemind of LRR to decide for you. Then, report back to this thread with how it went.

What should I have for dinner tonight? Feeding myself only, I live here.

A koala.

They're slow-moving. Just be careful, I hear they bite.

Edit: alternately, I suggest an omelet. Always serves me well.

Duckay was first in, ergo Duckay wins. She cheated, though, by having inside information.

Isn't lamb really cheap over there? I'd eat lamb all the time if I could.

Regardless I recommend Boon's Thai.

By Monday, I have to do the following:

-run at least once, ideally twice
-read a guidebook on basic weightlifting for men
-prepare a workout plan
-play journey to completion
-go grocery shopping
-fully hash out a gameplay mechanic from a rough outline (outline already prepared)
-produce a 15 page project charter
-produce a game design document (length unspecified)
-produce a presentation for delivery to the president and vp of a multinational corporation.
-transpose four weeks of class notes into a digital format
-Refresh myself on a 300 page reading that took 18 hours the first time and I haven't looked at in 4 weeks.
- analyze the yearly financial report for a simulated company and prepare a market strategy for its next year of simulated operation.
-hopefully not die of an anxiety attack.

Thoughts?

Eh. In 19 hours I have to turn in a 3000 word paper. I've got 489 down right now.

Suggest a paragraph topic? :P

My thoughts are largely: That's a lot of stuff.

Is Journey a school thing, or recreational?

I suggest you bin stuff into "must do or world will end" (presentation to president, market strategy) and "must do or inconvenience" (groceries, workout plan) Then, sort each of the bins by length of time to complete.

Then start at the top and go bird by bird. And start now.

The socialization of women as objects, specifically in two of Austen's books (Mansfield Park and Persuasion) and how the enforcement of it in the former is bad and the avoidance of it in the latter is good.

It's here if you want to see the awful I've written so far.

Austen biographer Claire Tomalin, who is generally rather critical of Fanny, argues that "it is in rejecting obedience in favour of the higher dictate of remaining true to her own conscience that Fanny rises to her moment of heroism."

I have played through Journey 6 times. It is amazeballs.
And I've got one for the runnning! Run with me! I need a jogging buddy while I'm in Vancouver, though I kinda suck at jogging. But I bet I'll suck less when I know I'm in the same country as Peacocks. Gives me energy.

Which brings me to my croudsource, mainly for girls, what should I wear running? Is a sports bra weird? Is it more healthy to run in converse or planks of wood with nails jutting out?

I don't know about the bra issue, but for footwear: good trainers are fairly essential. Technically, running barefoot is best, it trains you to run without heelstrike, but that's not really practical, those foot-glove things wear out quite quickly (or so I've heard, I've never tried them myself and I am curious to do so) and without them you might get hurt.

For starting off, running just a few miles a few times a week you're quite safe in standard cheap trainers. If you get really into it, its worth getting your gait analysed in case you over-pronate or whatever and getting some decent running trainers. I currently have Brooks Adrenalines (because I over-pronate), they're quite good, save my knees.

They wear out pretty quickly compared to other running shoes, but I've been using my Vibrams for somewhere between 18 months and two years, and they're just starting to wear out. As long as they're properly fitted, they'll be useful for a good long while.

Whatever kind of bra you wear, make sure it's supportive and fits well. Running in something that doesn't support or is inclined to slip out of place gets uncomfortable very quickly.

Speaking as a long distance runner (marathoner):

I'd go for a run with you, depending on distance/speed? I run appx. 6:00/km right now, and can do distance up to 10k. Angela, who you're staying with, I think, also runs.

They do make specialized running bras (which I know nothing about) but most women I know use a sports bra of some kind? (Compression? I dunno).

Shoes wise, you should be running in well fitted specialty running shoes, built to support your gait. This typically involves having a gait analysis done in store. (Conveniently, the Burnaby Running Room is having a sale!)

Chucks and planks of wood are both very bad ideas and likely to get you injured.

Sports bras don't help if you're over a D. At that point, I think a binder might actually work better.
