I don't know how I feel about the new lands, but if I build a two-colour deck in those colours, I feel sure I'll end up using them.

ETA: Isn't it 2 allied, 3 enemy?

Oh, you are correct. Hmmm, I'm not sure I like that. We're either getting 5 more, or things will be unbalanced. Which might be interesting...

They're just doing it similar to how they JUST did it in RTR block. We had 3 Allied, 2 Enemy, then 3 Enemy, 2 Allied. I wouldn't be surprised if Born of the Gods was 3 enemy 2 allied and Journey into Nyx was some of all ten.

Though it's likely to end up more like Innistrad Block, where 2 of the enemy rare lands showed up in Dark Ascension and the remaining 3 showed up in Avacyn Restored.

I mean, if you look at them, we just got the Gatecrash guild-colored lands.

I wouldn't be entirely surprised if we did or if we didn't see the other five.

The more I think about it, though, the more I like the lands.

Alright, just read the mothership article on them, looks like we're getting 10 (eventually).

Also, Friday Nights is up.

I'm just not a fan of the fact they're rare. I think they're decent fixing, and I might even be willing to put them in my 3-color decks to keep myself on color. But at rare? Really? I just don't see that except for 'encouraging' two-color in limited.

Also, Reaper of the Wilds seems... good. Like, really good. A 4/5 for 4 isn't bad. One mana to give Deathtouch is better. Two mana to give hexproof isn't great, but a nice option to have.

Eh, most non-gold sets only have rare duals. In my memory of playing, at least... SOM, ISD, and M10-13 all had rare duals. For lower-rarity fixing, it's usually only weaker lands like Evolving Wilds/Shimmering Grotto, or spells that let you fetch lands, like Rampant Growth, or Traveller's Amulet. It's usually only gold sets that gets good fixing at lower rarities (the gates and rocks in RTR, the bounce lands and signets in RAV, the tri-colour lands in SHA), because those sets need them to function in limited.

I enjoyed playing Halimar Depths in Zendikar block, and these lands will certainly bring back some of that, while typically being better.

i really like that guy too. if you play him on curve you should be able to block profitably with the 5 toughness and any turn after that you are always leaving 1 land + a dual open.

prophet of kruphix is a neat card but its stats mean its not going to see serious play. its effect is cool but requires a favorable board state anyway.

not sure where i stand on the lands yet. they are interesting

So, M14 draft. Going deep with mono-black, coming into pack 3. Open the pack: Sengir Vampire! Woo! Also: Jace.

What would you take?

I took the J-squirrel. Just couldn't justify letting someone else have it. The Vampire didn't wheel.

specifically because m14 limited is quite slow and jace is(usually) a 3 turn clock if an opponent resolves him i am taking Jace. the vampire is never going to wheel because black is strong in the format but i still take jace.

Prophet of Kruphix: Get in my blue/green deck right now!

Also, I totally have to say "Ho ho ho! Green Giant!" any time I cast Arbor Colossus. :D

Also, with "Monstrous" creatures, I'm wondering if the next two expansions in this block will have something like "Do something: target creature becomes Monstrous" or "Destroy target Monstrous creature" or such. Basically, I'm just looking for some other interaction with Monstrosity other than the card itself.

So while Theros looks amazing, I'm just happy that Thragtusk is rotating.

I'm waiting for this as well. An instant/sorcery that puts a +1/+1 counter on target creature, that creature becomes monstrous, shouldn't be too out of the cards, don't you think?

Or maybe, "Protection from Monstrous"

I'm looking forward to finding out.

Me, too, though I think the way the first thing would be worded is "Give target creature Monstrosity 1" (with associated rules text).

Actually, that might be a sick counter-play, now that I think about it. Activate Monstrosity 1 on an opponent's Arbor Colossus, so the opponent can't activate the Colossus' own Monstrosity 3.

"Protection from Monstrous" sounds pretty cool, too.

Given the abilities we've seen, I doubt there will be any card that just makes Monstrocity happen, even if it's Monstrocity 1 or even 0. The abilities seem to be the big draw. And being able to activate any ability would either be too expensive to be playable, or make the mechanic nuts.

True. If they did make an instant or sorcery that made target creature Monstrous, it would definitely not be cheap. I am hungry for more spoilers...

I wonder if they might make a sorcery to do the reverse... "Remove all +1/+1 counters from target monstrous creature. It is no longer monstrous." Let you reuse those becomes-monstrous triggers, for a cost...

I suspect some of those might not have been real sealed packs of innistrad James.
